MSY and UMART sells this for $395, so it's a fairly substantial saving of $30~40 depending on exchange rate. Not bad considering CPU's hardly ever get special prices in Australia.

Might be just me, but I would never buy something overseas for only a 10 percent saving. Save 30 bucks but wait 10 days for shipping vs walk into shop pick it up, local warranty and Australia consumer law protection etc, not worth it

      Intel has international warranty afaik

      • Easier if there is a brick and mortar shop that you can walk into I suppose. Although Amazon is quite good, overall it's just easier and quicker turnaround if your can take it back to the shop, esp for DOA products

No way I'd ever take an Intel chip/board back to a local store, unless it was DOA when I bought it.

Any other claim I'd go straight to Intel. They will pay FedEx to pickup old part, and ship back to Malaysia, and send you replacement via FedEx all usually in user a week…

Warranty / consumer protection doesn't come in to the picture, as Intel supports their parts for 3 years anyway.

Intel is the only company with an impeccable warranty claims process.

Dell is also quite good if you have their Pro support.

I agree. I use my PC everyday, I'd hate to wait for a key component to be shipped back to me in the case of a warranty claim.

  • Seller techguru on ebay has being selling them for 355 delivered. I got one with a 10% ebay coupon so was really happy with the price. Postage was fairly quick. None listed atm but keep an eye out if looking to buy a 4790k.

  • Weird. I bought one at CPL for $335 on 19 Sep. The exchange rate must have gone crazy since then.

My notes at the time show it was $335 for MSY, PC DIY and CPL back then for the Intel core i7 4790 #BX80646I74790

    • The price (in Australia) did go up for all Haswell refresh CPU's.

    • There was a big price difference between 4790 and 4790K.
