I have a upper end model of Bosch fridge for 3.5 years. In short, I hate it.

It is the one with French doors and water/ice dispenser.

for the past 4 years, it had the following issue
    1. first 3 weeks - the flap to open/close ice output will not close - all frozen food gone bad. Covered by warranty but the technicians need to come 3 times to get it fixed.
    2. half year - the flap to open/close ice output stuck by ice - ice cubes melt and caused a small flood in the kitchen
    3. 2 years - the fan in the freezer broke down - frozen food gone bad! I need to go to buy a fan and fix it myself in order to avoid being ripped off for another couple of hundreds dollars.

After doing some research, all Bosch fridges are not made in Germany:
    1. Upper end are made in Korea by Daewoo
    2. lower end are made in Thailand

I wouldn't buy another Bosch fridge.

Just to add to this. Almost every lower range fridge are made in Thailand (due to FTA) or Indonesia.

As for your fridge after two years you would still be covered under statutory warranty (which is why you should never buy additional warranty)

Unfortunately this is a "brand new" fridge provided by Winning appliances and it was bought from a auction during a charity dinner.

Winning Appliances did not provide a receipt for the purchase. Haha please don't even make me start on how bad is Winning Applicances because when the fridge was delivered the delivery guy refused to give me a receipt and kept saying that I am lucky to win a fridge like this and stop whinging that I do not have a receipt.

In fact, my wife spent $3000 on it!

I would've taken them to small claims court

regardless the manufacturer cannot knock you back.

They can quickly determine from the serial the date of manufacture.

Sorry it happened to you bro

    • Thats traumatic Siuol, I hope you didn't have any expensive seafood when the freezer compartment unfroze

I've had a westinghouse for 3.5 years and have had no problems with it

Why would a developed country be manufacturing fridges given the higher taxes and wages?

A fridge is quite a simple device. Basically a giant esky with an electric motor (compressor) blowing coolant around it to keep it cold.

A fridge is quite a simple device.

Believe it or not, Whirlpool can't even manufacture such a simple device.

Our side by side Whirlpool fridge, made in USA, failed from time to time, causing great inconvience especially in summer time when the freezer is packed with ice cream. We have to deforst the frostfree fridge every 2 months now to prevent it from failing.

Do a bit of homework first before you buy a fridge!

Why would a developed country be manufacturing fridges given the higher taxes and wages?

Maybe because you get better quality control and a higher quality of workmanship. The Australian made Electrolux fridges (and their other brands) rank the highest for reliability and lowest power consumption out of all the fridges, using your logic this shouldn't be the case.

Using that logic a car is a simple device as is a TV and the Chinese brands should all be ultra reliable and perform really well!

      • What is the difference in labor cost between a fridge made in Thailand and one made in Australia?

i have a kelvinator that has been working for 12 years straight without any service at all…

THATS CHEAP , I was looking for a fridge like that about one year ago and couldn't find anything even close to that price (I mean top brands) . Bosch has a good reputation as far as I am aware.

    • Bosch has a good reputation as far as I am aware.

Bosch does have a good reputation as far as many other items are concerned like tools, dishwashers, cooktops, ovens and so forth but as far as fridges go they do not and this has already been posted in this discussion.

You are far better off buying an Electrolux (or one of their other brands - Kelvinator & Westinghouse) as these rank highly in Choice testing and reliability surveys. The above 300L models are made in Australia and they generally have the lowest running costs.

Who cares if it's cheap? If it uses more power and is less reliable than Brand X which is say $200 more this doesn't make it a smart buy.

      • Earlier in the year we got a 510L Westinghouse for around $1200 - $1250 or so after promotional discounts and haggling. It doesn't have the external panel of this fridge, but I don't find myself wanting to set the temperature anyway and the bit more I paid for did get me a larger capacity fridge (which may not be to every ones taste). I won't say the Bosche is a bad price, but it doesn't seem exceptional for a fridge either.

Im my opinion. Bosch is a no name brand in refrigeration. Low sales volumes expect hard to buy parts. I'm not sure if there are good brands in fridges anymore. At least with Westinghouse/kelvinator you can buy overpriced parts.

  • I know there might be many Samsung haters here but I found this fridge to be quite good and decent for the price.

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/whitegoods-appliances/fridges-free…

It has 3.5 stars rating, comes with 10 year parts warranty on the digital inverter compressor. JB will easily give $100 discount if you buy cash.

    • I know there might be many Samsung haters here but I found this fridge to be quite good and decent for the price.

Samsung fridges do not rank well, many customers would not buy the same brand again, they have low reliability and they don't perform well and use more power than equivalent models.

It has 3.5 stars rating, comes with 10 year parts warranty on the digital inverter compressor. JB will easily give $100 discount if you buy cash.

And what about the rest of the components? It's very easy to put a conditional warranty on one specific component but that's pretty pointless if the other components are prone to failure.

Buy a reliable model that is energy efficient and it will pay itself in no time.

      • Any suggestions then?

Hearing lots of the bad & ugly, would really appreciate hearing some good stuff.

I'm in the market as my 3 y/o LG has turned out to be a piece of crap.

Someone said good things about Aussie made Electrolux, so now leaning this way.

  • We almost bougt a bosch last year.. so glad we didnt. Checked reviews and it was probably the most misdesigned fridge ever. Frost free not working, fridge component even frosting up, constant breakdowns. Buyer beware of Bosch fridges.
