It does not appear to mention gigabit anywhere… so I am guessing it's not… which makes wireless n slightly less useful than otherwise.

what are you on about? i think your missing the point of wireless-n.
how does not having gigabit make it less useful?

      • +1

Agreed, 100mbit LAN will saturate a Wireless N connection no worries…

If, like me you're looking specifically for Gigabit Ethernet for a majority cable network with a Wireless N hook, then I can understand.. but you've worded your comment poorly.

          Sorry… to clarify:

802.11n typically operates at 300mbit for a device like this, or up to 450mbit if you've enough radios (theoretically 600mbit but no one does that yet).

As noted above, 100mbit LAN is 100mbit. 300mbit does not go into 100mbit. Therefore you're limited to 100mbit. It's still faster than 54mbit wireless, and if you're getting technical about it, they each have different overheads, but you won't get very good performance out of an N wireless gateway on a 100mbit backbone if you push it.

Also, another thing that usually happens - if they aren't on a gigabit backbone, they usually aren't 450mbit capable, which means they usually have only two antennas and radios, which is worse than the three required for 450mbit in ways other than just speed…

Realistically, it's probably not an issue for a cheap wireless router, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

  • tempting, but never heard of this brand before

  • I have a couple of edimax USB wireless LAN adapters that I bought from 9289 and they are sweet! Would happily give this a try if I needed one. When in doubt google!
