STOP THE NEG ABUSERS - CAMPAIGN

hEAR Yi hEAR Yi

Welcome fellow bargainers,

In this day and age, there seems to be a profound group of negative individuals that obstruct's ones progress and development in the physical, partly omnipresent world.

What are ways to influence or indirectly change there mind of frame?

Or more or less, eradicate this behaviour?

    Neg!

    How do I neg this?

    • -5

      Unfortunately, u cannot neg this.

        Unfortunately, u cannot neg this.

        I just did!

Absurd comments lead to apparently "absurd" behaviour. In your comment you define a word with the word itself (twice), then continue to contradict yourself before becoming nonsensical altogether with your "porn book" thing. A campaign may be required to stop spammy posts?

    • LOL, bargain porn book.

  • +7

I want a stop the ALL CAPS abusers campaign.

    • -2

      Then you shall.

If you believe, you can achieve. Remember love is key to success, my dear fellow friend.

Australia is still a free country is it? Even for trolls

I think that at least an awareness campaign is good, because I think that some people neg others very quickly without much thought. Negging discourages some from posting deals in case the deal is not considered 'outstanding' and gets badly negged. Those who mildy disagree with deals and posts should just sit on their hands and do nothing. Negs should be reserved for the extreme cases only.

you would think someone who has been a member of OzB for so long would know how the voting works by now. you cant just neg a deal because you mildly disagree, let alone get a deal thats "badly negged" for no reason… your point is pointless because it simply can not happen because the negs would be revoked by mods/other members downvoting the comment.

      • -2

Yep here is my point exactly. Dissuades people from commenting too. You will turn people into readers rather than contributors.

        • -2

thats good because if comments are getting negs they are obviously unwanted by the community as a whole. comments that get negs generally have little to no value to the community so the new result is actually a better community

so twice now you have got it wrong there for contradicting yourself, there for adding nothing of value to the site/forum and in fact your first comment if anything was harmful to the community because it was bad/invalid/wrong information and thus by people negging you it shows other people that may not know the rules of OzB to simply ignore your comment and its bad information thus showing why negs are not only a good thing but a very valuable thing.

and if negs werent also capped at only 5 per day i would also neg your second comment because again it is wrong there for again proving that the system works just the way it is

That's why we have the Voting Guidelines. It clearly covers all your concerns, as negs that don't fit within the guidelines are removed. You can't neg if a deal isn't "outstanding", and if you try to do so the vote will be removed.

Any deals that are negged (and stayed negged in high numbers) would suggest that something is wrong with the deal, product or the retailer and acts as a warning to members who might not get their money's worth.

I believe the OP's campaign is against the negging against their comment that I linked in my first post, and if so, that comment can be see as off topic or may be considered to contain obscene remarks, and thus the members are free to express their opinion on the comment.

      • Any deals that are negged (and stayed negged in high numbers) would suggest that something is wrong with the deal, product or the retailer and acts as a warning to members who might not get their money's worth.

Actually the deals are removed from the view of most people…. meaning that nobody gets any information about that deal… good or bad

Last time your +ve vote went to this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/152316 and it was almost three months back. Does this ring any bell?

And since you got almost 18 negs on your comment in this thread -> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/164255, you started this campaign.

Be thoughtful and make sensible comments, i promise, you won't be negged.

  • There could be something in this — I don't think any kind of 'campaign' is going to be sustainably effective, but I'm sure the site admins could introduce some kind of restriction in terms of ratio of positive : negative votes, for balance — Alternatively, just get rid of negative voting altogether, many sites don't have that option, just a [voteup] button and [report abuse] options, which works very effectively.
As for ALL CAPS, things like that could be blocked from posts, also but is it currently a prevalent issue ?

i was going to write out a longer rely until i realised it was easier summed up thusly….

can you show me somewhere/anywhere on this site where something has a negative balance of votes where it was unwarranted? if you can not show where this has occurred in the past then your point is moot and the system works.

if you cant prove the system is broken then quit trying to fix a perfectly working system

Can I ask, what are you guys referring to? I'm completely lost.

    • Seems quite obvious that this campaign of yours is in response to one of your most recent gibberish comments https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/164255#comment-2286563

Good thing you dont write the dictionaries! Hope you dont teach at schools too!

      • -2

It isn't. Why be so harsh towards me? I haven't done anything towards you. It feels like you're just riding everyone's wave and belittling me to the depths of despair.

For those more than a little confused by this thread, the OP changed the post well after the discussion started (comparison of posts here)

Seems he no longer is after people who neg comments.

    • OP's original version to save people having to follow the above to the current revision

      Welcome fellow bargainers,

WE MUST STOP WITH THE NEG ABUSE! This is unacceptable. No one in this day and age should be exposed to this sort of indirect abuse. I'm calling for all ozbargainers to take action against those neggers.

      Action:

      • place positive vote to deduct the present neg
      • un-neg the neg
      • respond, dont abuse, but respond

guys, please comment for more ideas on this absurd behaviour.

      Regards,

      L O V E
