40" that can do 1080p @ 50/60hz for less than $300 deserves it's own post.
Good to hear about the stock too.
been at that price for a while. Most likely old stock as I heard BigW is stop selling TVs.
We sell tv's, just not as everyday stock.
These tv's are promotional stock that came in within the last few months and in small numbers.Your local store might have some left, or none at all.
Soniq 48" led tv at jb hifi for $399 maybe a good alternative.
Plenty at Ti Tree Plaza, just not on display.
If Big W rep is watching, big Brownie points to Travis and Joel for helping to load it into our car.
Very polite, and worth the compliment.I have a Viano 32" and if this product is similar:-
Pros
The picture and sound is actually pretty good, its narrow and light.Cons
Slow startup
Awful remote
Consumes 10w on standby. It was streets ahead of other $199 budget offerings at the time. I just turn it off and the switch thats on the bottom after we've finished using it. My 2 year old is trained to do that suitably.
That was 2 years ago so maybe this ones different.
I bought a similar one of these today (and i'm using it now). The model number is LEDTV47FHD (ie. 47 for 47inch, or 119cm).
It was easy to setup. However, when I first started using it, the picture quality was shocking on a PC via HDMI. I noticed that GeForce mentioned that the highest resolution it recommended for these monitors on a PC via HDMI was 1680 x 1050. As soon as I changed the resolution to 1680 x 1050, the picture was far more viewable. Unfortunately, i've come from a DELL 24WFP08 (or something similar) - and the picture quality is definitely nowhere near as good.I checked for firmware updates, but there are none listed on the www.iviano.com website.
For the price, these are excellent TVs, and reasonable monitors. They have a 4* energy rating… 345kWh per year.
If anyone knows how to get a better resolution out of these screens when using them as a PC monitor (via HDMI or otherwise), please let me know.
After some experimentation, i've found out a few useful things about using HDTV as a monitor.
- make sure your overscan vs underscan settings are correct. I found these were best done via the monitor itself
- Windows users: make sure you are using clear-type. it may be worth re-calibrating with your new screen
- turn sharpness off by setting it to 0. The higher the sharpness number, the more "fuzzy" the image. Sharpness blends pixel values using weighting factors (like taking the average of 5 and 7 across bordering pixels would give you 6).
- don't sit too close. The dot pitch of the vianos is about 0.55 compared with a regular monitor of 0.20 … the bigger the pixels, the more chunky things will appear.
However, the biggest single factor was the sharpness. The default sharpness was set to 7 … but the reality was that a sharpness of 1-10 made fonts very fuzzy. With a sharpness of 0, I can run 1920 x 1080 progressively quite nicely.
Overall, i'd say these screens are excellent for the price. Newer Movies look fantastic (particularly BluRay, or 1080p). It may pay to use sharpness when watching a movie, then disabling sharpness when using the computer for text.
TL;DR - If you're using an LCD TV as a monitor for a PC, turn sharpness to 0. Also, they will not look as good as a monitor "close up" because the dot pitch is bigger, but they'll look fine at a distance.
Bought the 48 inch viano. tv is TERRIBLE when watching tv. picture is fuzzy and patchy and definitely not clear. Not many settings to play around with either.
ANYONE have any suggestions on settings tweaks or ideal changes to set in order to fix the picture?
40" is $299. Purchased the 40" a few days back for my gaming monitor on the pc. Brilliant for the price and supports 1080p not just 1080i like the DSE one. Tons of stock of both at my local Big W at Jesmond.
