Need some help deciding which model of tv to buy. Currently using some 32inch Soniq and its not quiet cutting it. Looking for something around 50-55inch area, 100-120Hz, LCD, really dont care about 3D, 4K or smart features, already have a Chromecast that does enough, happy to spend 1k-1.5k. The 55" boarderless Kogan caught my eye as it was cheap but i'm unsure if i should just go for one of the 'bigger brands' for the warranty. Most new models seem to come with lots of crap i don't care about (3D, smart features) so would it be worth investigating older models? Any help or models worth checking out please comment!

You could search OzBargain and save yourself some money by getting the 55" for $522 from this deal. There are also some comments/reviews about this product on previous deals. I'm considering/trying to resist buying the 65".
You've already got two excellent suggestions, but here's another worth thinking about: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/162751
A 55" Smart TCL for $777 with free shipping (I got the email too, it's clearly stated) is also a great TV for the money! :)
The Hisense 55K370 isn't a bad choice, JB have it for $996 at the moment here.
Relatively simple 100Hz FullHD TV, with no fancy features to speak of whatsoever.
The next step up is the Samsung UA55H6400, but I don't think that for your needs it's worth paying the extra for the smart features or 3D.
EDIT: I should mention that the Hisense comes with a 3 year in-home replacement warranty.
