  • Am considering buying this and wanted to see what others thought of this deal.

The cheapest price that I could find online for this same model was $88, seen here: http://www.shopbot.com.au/pp-philips-shn5500-price-50015-126…

Never heard of the first shop (YouPrice), who seem to be an Aussie-based online presence for a US company (and I can't tell what the shipping costs are either). The second shop listed is TechBuy, which I have heard of but their price is $121. Otherwise I have only seen it online elsewhere at the RRP.

So this deal still seems pretty good. If you're in the market for some noise cancelling headphones that is.

Was thinking about this as well, price is ok, I picked up a pair of Logitech noise cancelling headphones a couple of years back for $70 at a HN store. It's been absolutely brilliant on planes, really tones down that droning sound.

Minor quibble, the Logi one I have comes with a case that holds the headphones, a spare battery, the aeroplane adaptor and another pocket for random stuff, this one looks like it doesn't.

Not sure how good the noise cancelling tech in this is… anyone know what we should be looking at and comparing?

EDIT: Hmmm, did some digging, found a couple of negative comments

And full US RRP seems to be ~$40 at the moment, ~AU$50.

I don't think it would be comfortable wearing these on the plane, considering they are worn behind the head…

I have a pair of Phillips in ear noise canceling phones I was say closer to 10% than 75% as claimed. ONly works on a narrow frequency range, it was enough to take the edge off the background noise on a recent flight to LA that I was able to sleep. But I honestly think a pair of silicon earplugs would have done a way better job.
