I have been using the Australia Post Load & Go Visa and now want to move to a new card

Is there a credit card out there that has no monthly fees, low transaction fees and no minimum deposit which I can use for online purchases with ease?

  • Most Debit Visa cards work that way. Just don't expect any interest or cashback.

Following credit cards have no annual fee: 28 Degrees Mastercard, BankVic Visa, Coles Source Mastercard

Best VISA debit card is ING Orange Everyday: no fees and if you meet certain conditions you will also get a 2 percent cashback reward

    Hope this is useful

    • But that's only if you deposit $1000 per month? I only deposit the amount required for that online purchase.

      • If you deposit enough, you get your other ATM fees reimbursed. However, you can work around that, just use it as you've stated and you won't pay fees. Have a look here:
        http://www.ingdirect.com.au/everyday-banking.html
and check out the fees involved.

I've got two of these accounts and love them. I can't even remember the last time I paid any fees.

        • hmmm… would this card work with Apple Pay?

      • Okay, you won't qualify for the cashback, but no fees on this card.

which I can use for online purchases with ease?

If any of those online purchases are for overseas purchases or the vendor bills in Australian Dollars via an overseas processor, you should consider CitiBank Plus. This will a avoid Foreign Currency Conversion fee - typically 3%

    • Is a Debit card (AP Load & Go is not a credit card either)
Won't have to apply with financial data and risk being declined.

    • No monthly Fees

    • No Transaction fees
    • No minimum Deposit
    • Is a Visa, so well accepted.

    • That's a good point - Orange Everyday charges you foreign transaction fees of 2.5%, so you need to be aware of that if you're going to use it for those sorts of things.

      • Hmmm I do make the occasional purchase with Amazon US…

      • No foreign transaction fee with 28 Degrees MC

        • 28 Degrees now charge for cash advances.

  • Would anyone happen to know if there's a limit on the number of bank accounts that can be opened here in Australia?
I do have a CBA account that charges no monthly fees as long as I'm a student. I get a little interest as well by putting in my savings into the Netsaver account. I'm quite keen on getting the ING Orange Everyday (for the cash back) and the Citibank Plus (no international transaction fees).

      No, there is no limit.

As an OzBargainer you can open multiple accounts with multiple financial institutions and move your money around as needed.

I've got 13 accounts. I've got my reasons, but I transfer funds back and forth all the time and it works for me.

And are a firm favourite at the ATO and federal police!

OP, you want a separate account for buying stuff online for obvious security reasons - if its hit it won't affect your main transaction account with someone else.

        • Thanks guys!

        • The average account balance is around $500.

I have piggybank accounts for my children.
          I have a cheque account
          I have a savings account
I have a joint savings account
I have an everyday account with a visa debit card
I have another everyday account with a visa debit card that I use for purchases on Amazon - usual balance is around $10 unless I want to use it, then I put funds in there
I have a savings account set up for each of my children, that I transfer $100 at a time (2 or 3 times a year) to, so that they earn a bit more interest (nowhere near the threshold where it will become an issue)
I have a christmas savings account (usual balance around $500)
I have an education savings account for my university expenses - again usual balance around $500
I also have recently opened another visa debit account with an institution related to my future career, to begin my account history with them. I transfer $10 a week into it.

There is absolutely no reason why my having these accounts is suspicious. It is the same as having one account but trying to keep on top of how much money should be applied to each savings goal. This works for me and I pay no fees because of the way I've got it set up. I transfer funds back and forth as required to pay for things using the visa debit facility, or the cheque book - I write probably 8 cheques a year.
