I recently bought the 48" model for $949.

It is a great TV. The 50" model for $999 is indeed a bargain.

Just be aware that while these are 2014 models, they are currently being phased out and that is likely the reason for the pricedrops.

I just grabbed the SONY 50" (127cm) FHD 3D Smart LED TV KDL50W800B for $992 from Ebay delivered, so even better value.
