UPDATE 17/9 2:20PM AEST: Just to update everyone on the progress. We are currently assembly and testing systems at the rate of 50 per day - although progress was slower in the past two days as we aggregated parts and sorted through specifics for everyone's order (such as upgrades). We are on track to have everyone system dispatched by the end of this week as mentioned previously. Apologies for the wait and thank you for your patience!

UPDATE 15/9 5:00PM AEST:
TL:DR Version: Sale extended until midnight, not all the orders can be assembled and tested within 48 Hours, if your order is urgent, contact us please.

Ok everyone - some good news and some bad news. The good news is that due to the payment issues that eBay has been experiencing, we've decided to extend our offer until just before midnight tonight.

The bad news is that due to the unprecedented number of orders, it is likely that we won't be able to assemble and dispatch everyone's order within 48 hours. Those who have ordered and paid will shortly be receiving an e-mail, the draft of which I will post below:

First of all, I'd like to take the opportunity to thank you for purchasing a desktop system with us, we appreciate your support. The past few days have been unprecedented for PC Byte as a fledging company, we have received over two hundred system orders in the span of 48 hours, on top of order for other parts, peripherals and accessories, a number beyond our wildest imaginations and we have you to thank for it. So thank you.

Each PC Byte system is lovingly hand-built and tested, right here in our offices in Silverwater, Sydney. Our goal is to deliver a system that has been properly assembled and tested and our emphasis has always been on quality and not quantity. That is why you are receiving this e-mail because we need your help and understanding. The unprecedented number of orders means that it is likely we will be unable to meet our advertised lead time of 48 hours for assembly and dispatch - of course, we could churn out a hundred systems a day, but there would be little guarantee that it would be assembled with care and no time to ensure that it is tested properly - to our standards. So, with that in mind, we ask you to do the following:

  1. If you are happy for your system to be dispatched within five working days - there is no need for you to do anything :)
  2. If you need your system in a hurry - please drop us an eBay message. If you are looking at a specific time frame, please include it.

Rest assured, all system orders will be honoured, and, in the unlikely event that stocks of particular parts run out, we will contact you with an offer for a comparable alternative part or a full refund - although we do not anticipate that this will be necessary.

Thank you again for your support, understanding and patience in this time and, on behalf of the team, I'd like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the delay on our end.
We hope that your experience purchasing with us will be a pleasant one and we look forward to serving you again in the future.

UPDATE 13/9 10:30PM AEST: Phew, just got off the plane and I have a bunch of messages from my colleagues to update the post with the following systems. Intel i7-4790 w/ Windows 8.1 for $929

Price Comparison in comments below. Why aren't these all around the $667 mark? My, that's a very good question. I'll leave Peter to answer this one (see what happens when I step on a plane for a few hours?)

Anyways - Happy shopping everyone! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to enjoy my break :P

UPDATE 12/9 11:33PM: Hello all, thanks for the great response! :) We looking forward to building and sending out these systems, and, to be completely honest with you, Peter's currently sweating at the prospect of how many systems the team will have to build to fulfil the demand. It's fair to say that the interest in this deal greatly exceeded our expectations and we may have to make some adjustments to the system specifications as sales are made to ensure we can fulfil the demand (especially if stocks of particular components run low, we may have to substitute it or, especially in the case of the bonus WiFi adapters, omit it altogether). Peter will comment below should that occur and (as always) the eBay listing will always accurately reflect what is currently on offer. Do take the opportunity to hit refresh and have a quick glance at the latest listing before making your purchase - particularly if you are making your order later on Sunday / Monday.

Please also bear with us if there is any delays in dispatching your order - at this stage we do not anticipate any but if you need your PC in a hurry, you should probably leave us an eBay message with your purchase.

On a side note: I will go overseas to visit family tomorrow so I'll be on a plane most of the day so apologies if there's any delays updating this main post. Peter (if he isn't too stressed out) should be around to answer your questions. He's not a natural at this though so please go easy on him :P

Please note: This deal is provided by the PC Byte eBay team but I am posting it to comply with OzBargain Store Rep Guidelines. The Rep responsible for this deal Peterngu91, please direct all system related questions to him - Let's hope he doesn't get posting quota'd like last time ;)

MechKB also has a sale on Corsair K70/K95 this week. Feel free to have a look :)

  • Mine was posted out 17/9 too. Delivery to Perth metro. Hope it arrives today but I don't think it will. The Startrack reference number isn't trackable online for me.

    • Yes my tracking number was invalid also the entire time. No idea why.

    • Make sure you guys are using the right site not the one linked on eBay. Try this one: http://www.startrack.com.au/

    • Can you guys drop me the tracking number you were provided? That is very odd. eBay tends to link into the old AAE system though (Star Track and AAE merged but the old AAE tracking system is still available) which only works for 1/3-1/2 the tracking numbers, that might be why.

  • I bought two systems, they both arrived yesterday.

Unfortunately one of them has the wrong motherboard, not the one that Peter mentioned here. I even sent them a message on ebay specifically asking them to check that this part would be correct but it wasn't replied to, I guess it got lost in the busyness. :/

So yeah a bit disappointed. I'm waiting on their reply now, will update with how it goes.

    • +3

That's a bit dissapointing. I hope the PC Byte team doesn't ruin their outstanding customer service that we have seen throughout the sale now that its over.

Simple followups and courtesy responses make a HUGE impact for customers opinions of any business, no matter if its good or bad news, at least its a response.

Hopefully they sort out your issue mikeInside. Keep us all posted :-)

    • +1

      Hey MikeInside,

If you don't get a reply by the close of business today, please drop me your order number via PM so I can chase it up for you.

    • Update: No reply via ebay messaging so I gave them a phone call, and they said they needed the entire system back to do the swap. I drove over there and they replaced the part without issue.

3 hours of time/petrol wasted, but at least it's over. Luckily I don't live interstate!

      Thanks for the offer Roland.

      • +1

        Hey MikeInside,

Sorry to hear about that. Glad you got it sorted out in the end. It's a bit hard with motherboards - for some items we can do an item to item swap if the user has sufficient competence and is willing to do the swap themselves, but motherboards, as you might imagine, is a different kettle of fish.

Not sure why they put in the wrong motherboard in the first place - to be fair though, Peter's brain was pretty fried most of last week and early this week. Never seen a guy put together coherent sentences on so little sleep.

  • +1

Update on my system so far.

    1. A high pitched sound is noticeable from the motherboard , hopefully not an issue.
    2. The onboard LAN is problematic, even with latest drivers and bios, therefore went to wireless instead and its rock solid now. No idea why the onboard LAN has issues.

    Very good unit besides that.

    • +1

Hey Viper1980, do you want to drop me some symptoms of the onboard LAN problems?

  • +1

The whole package actually arrived today. Wasn't expecting it till the end of the week. In the process of setting Windows up now.
    Here are my initial impressions:
    1. Very well packaged. Lots of bubble wrap etc.
    2. Anyone else looking for a tax invoice? I didn't find mine in the package. Will need to check with PCBYTE.
    3. The Huntkey case is smaller than I expected. The original cable installation was good with cable ties etc. Unfortunately I had to undo their good work because I had to rearrange the cables to fit my GPU (ATI 7870) in the tight spaces. All in all, the case looks ok.
    4. The power and reset buttons on the Huntkey case are way too sensitive for my liking. I actually managed to turn off the system while pulling out a USB from the front USB port. Hope this is not a problem going forward.

    • +1
      1. The case doesn't come with any intake/exhaust fans. It's rather quiet that way and you can barely hear the system running. But it got a bit warm just running normally with my ATI 7870. So I've installed 2 of my older case fans (80mm rear & 120mm side). The 7870 got up to 78c when I was playing Wasteland 2.
    • Hey Itwo,

      1. Damage in transit is the bane of all internet based system builders!
      2. There should've been an "invoice enclosed" pocket attached to your order. If not, you can contact us and we can chase it up for you.

    Hello everyone,

We haven't really been monitoring this thread since last Friday, I thought I would just swing by to make sure everyone was happy, so I apologise for the late responses. By now, most of the systems have been built and delivered although there's a few stragglers that have yet to go out.

I'll be replying each new comment individually. Just give me a few minutes :)

    • +1

Its fair to say if there was a rating system for Rep's, yourself and Peter would be on top of the list.

Well done to you both! GREAT PR!

      A+

      • Cheers, we do what we can :)

  • So I've received the computer and tried to connect it to the monitor via vga, however both of our monitors say "no video input".
Computer is powered on. Am I not doing something right?

    • Hey JLove,

Did you purchase a system with a discreet graphics card?

      • Yeh, bought the upgrade 270x

        • Do you have a CPU that has integrated graphics capability? Can you connect your monitor directly to that and see if you can get an image. If so, it means the GFX card has come loose or otherwise has been damaged during transit. There's not much we can do to protect against this sadly.

If you are proficient enough with hardware, a simple inspection and a firm push of the 270 into the slot should solve the issue. If you don't feel confident enough to do that, don't worry. Drop us an e-mail / call or PM and we can contact you and go from there.

        • @Roland Chen:

Thanks for the speedy reply. Turns out we had plugged the VGA cable into the CPU VGA slot, instead of into the graphics card below via the adapter. Turns on fine now :)

        • @JLove: Glad to hear it! thumbs up

  • Mine came with the wrong case :/ but happy it finally came, sending them a msg on ebay

    • Hi nephilim,

Sorry about that, please check your ebay message.

      Regards,
      Peter

  • Getting a very very high pitched squealing sound coming from mine, Cant isolate where exactly its coming from, assuming the power supply or cpu fan. Any ideas on how to make it quieter? Anyone else have the same issue?

    • Hey Riczter, can you describe the sound? Are you able to isolate roughly which component it's coming from? We did not experience any high squealing sounds during system burn-in and testing.

      • Hi Roland. I can confirm its the CPU Fan. When I stop the fan, a second later the squeal stops. The squeal starts again the moment the fan spins up again. The fact the squeal doesn't slow or change frequency as the fan is slowed tells me its not foreign matter or something rubbing against the fan. Rather it is something to do with the fan's controller or motor. The squeal is only evident when the fan's controller is attempting to spin the fan.

I'll try alter fan speeds in the software or BIOS and see if that helps.

        Any other suggestions are welcome.

<EDIT:> Adjusted fan speed higher and lower in the UEFI BIOS, as well as toggled on and off the "Cool'n'quiet" mode in Advanced/CPU Configuration.. The sound is still there. Running out of ideas. Leaning towards thinking a replacement fan may be necessary unless you can suggest any other options?

It looks like it is a simple matter of 4 screws and a plug. The fan isn't attached to the heat sink in any other way is it? It should just come off when the 4 screws are out right? If so I can remove and reattach the fan myself. Are you able to send me a replacement fan?

<EDIT2:> I tried the fan on "full speed" and that has stopped the squeal. But I cant have it on full speed all the time as that is just as noisy :/

        • Hey Riczter,

Sounds to me like the fan may have been subject to shock damage during transit (shook something loose or possibly introduced something to where it shouldn't have been, as you say.). If you have done it before, we can send you a replacement HSF (Heatsink and Fan) unit to replace it. Otherwise, we may have to arrange a return or a local technician to have a look at it (the later may not be possible, depending on where you are.)

Let me know what you think. Feel free to PM me your order details either way.

EDIT: And yes, depending on what HSF came with your system, it may be possible just to replace the fan which would be the easiest option.

        • When I get home I'll send a pic and PM the order number. Thanks :D

    • This is exactly the same high pitch sound issue I have with mine, as per my post above.

It's certainly the CPU fan after my tests also.

      • Hi viper1980,

If you know how to install HSF(Heatsink and Fan), we will send you a replacement HSF (Heatsink and Fan).

Let me know what you think. Feel free to PM me your order details either way.

        Cheers :)

        Best Regards,
        Peter

        • If its the same as mine he should be able to just unscrew and replace the fan, without having to go to the trouble of removing the heat sink.
          http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/86788/25509/img_2005.jp…

        • @Riczter: Anyone have any recommendations for aftermarket fans? I "think" I have the same squeal (I know all systems sound different but this new system just sounds a bit annoying compared to my previous PC with an aftermarket CPU HSF.

        • @Riczter: I've tried this in the office, reinstalling a new fan only is kinda tricky because the heatsink isn't pre-threaded, the threads are made when the fans are initally screwed into the Heatsink - so getting a new set of screws in gets tricky.

We're happy to accommodate either way but please drop us your eBay ID so we can grab the information for your order.

    • Getting the same high pitched squeal here; confirmed it was due to the fan by varying BIOS settings.

      • Sounding like this may have just been a bad batch of fans on these CPU's perhaps.

        These things happen.

        • Just for your interest : the fan on the heatsink was made by coolermaster (at least ours in the office is - it's marked on the underside of the fan.

It's possible there may have been a bad batch - we're discussing internally what is the most efficient way to provide replacements to affected customers and whether we should send the whole HSF assembly or just the fan. This is for those who are comfortable with replace it themselves of course.

  • hi there I've received my computer thank you very much. however the invoice doesn't include the extra ssd and blue ray reader upgrades… can you please send me another invoice that includes both of these and the original PC as well?
I've messaged through ebay on the 23rd October, but still no response. Peter/Roland, can you please take a look for me?
    Order number:171397687526 171395293584 171395122529

    Thanks!

    • Hi dazaman,

Can you PM me your ebay ID, I will work it out for you.

      Cheers :)

      Best Regards,
      Peter

  • For everyone with the squeaking fan issue. Could we get you to drop us an eBay message or a PM with your eBay ID and order number? We'd like to contact you about how to go about fixing it and whether you'd be willing to do a bit of DIY with a new HSF or you'd like to return it to us! Cheers!

  • My tracking ETA is tomorrow (30/09), hopefully all is good!

Kudos to the reps for still checking in on this thread.

    • Still haven't received mine yet… Star track is absolutely hopeless.

      • Hey mtran0708,

Could you drop me your tracking number? Maybe I could chase it up for you?

        Warm regards,
        Roland

        • FTD03388
It was supposed to be delivered yesterday, it's annoying that I took the day off waiting for it.

        • +1

@mtran0708: Some of those tracking events are a bit odd. I will give Star Track a call tomorrow and ask them to put an investigation on it. If you receive it in the meantime, please drop me a message and let me know!

        • @Roland Chen:

Hey Roland, thanks for that! It was eventually delivered :) Just wanted to say that everything was well packaged and arrived safely. Booted up the system and its all running smoothly. Great job from you and everyone at PC Byte.

        • +1

@mtran0708: Glad to hear it mtran0708 - I'll be honest and say that being on hold on the phone to Star Track isn't what I consider a highlight of my job :P

  • Hi, I would also like my invoice to have my addition SSD and my purchase of windows, on that note, your advert saids it comes with a 1TB SATA 3 to my dismay it only has my SSD addon which i have sent you a picture to your ebay inbox, ALSO when i just turned on my computer it asked me to verify my windows .. I called up and entered my installation id but it failed because windows said that the maximum amount of computers has already been installed with this id, im not sure why it is because i did pay the full price of the addition of windows 7 … I feel very jibbed and unhappy, this is a late reply because I had no time to pick it up and it just arrived today, you can check it via my shipping number: 1401655861

    • Hey Bimbz,

Could you PM me with your eBay ID so I can follow up? I'm not 100% sure about the SSD - from what I understand (and what I've heard in the office) it appears to have been an oversight during PC assembly. Because of the large number of orders we had, we had a few people assembling the PCs and one of them didn't clarify whether the SSDs were add-ons or upgrades. If that's what happened, I apologise and we'll make every effort to make amends.

With the Windows 7 - that is very strange that it occurred. The copies of Windows 7 includes are all brand new and factory sealed. I will need to confirm the details from you and the team. It is possible that a copy of Windows we use for testing purposes was left on your system by accident but if you purchased a Windows 7 upgrade that shouldn't have been installed in the first place.
