        which one? camerasky or topbuy?

      • I thought that might be the case, cheers for the heads up!

Anyone care to comment on this lens vs the 24mm 1.8? Have been eyeing the 24mm for a looong time, should I just get it or this 35mm instead?

        • 24mm is bit pricey, the cheapest was $700 from town hall sound center which closed a while ago. And you get wider angle with 24mm, also it supports hybrid PDAF.

  • Dang i just bought it on amazon for the same price. Gotta wait for it to be delivered as well :(

    • amazon shows US$700ish, link?

  • if I use this on sony a7 , will it be dark in the Conner ?

    • A7 should auto crop the photo down to 10mpx to avoid dark corners. You can turn this off in the settings if you want.

    • I would expect some dark corners…but then again I have been surprised by lenses before. My SAL30M28 is very usable (dark only in the extreme corners, looks like a heavy vignette) on my A7 via the LA-EA4 with the crop mode turned OFF.

    • Aps-c so it is cropped

It's a great lens for specific purposes, but quite a few people are complaining that, with the current firmware, the focus speed seems "painfully slow" compared to Sony lenses. The issue that concerns me is that you will probably have to ship it back to Zeiss (as occurred with the Touit 2.8/50M) if you intend to use it with something like an α6000, and want to get the "hybrid AF firmware update" (to, among other things, improve focus speed). This would also likely apply for any other future updates…
So make sure you factor in the downtime and inconvenience when making your decision…

Also note that it may not be ideal for video, unless you use it in a controlled environment, because the iris changes are way too noticeable for most.

I'm pretty sure you don't need to send Mirrorless camera lenses that use CDAF to the manufacturers to be updated. They can be updated via firmware like Sony has done in the past (giving hybrid PDAF to lenses that were CDAF only).

Hope so for the Touit 32mm and 12mm when and if a new firmware comes out as the 50mm requires for it to be sent back to Zeiss to update the firmware.

      • As j1568 says, the 50mm DOES require a return to manufacturer for it's update.
Zeiss seem to be indicating it will be the same for this lens…

It is much easier to facilitate the update of Sony Lenses on a Sony Camera because they are both made by the same company ;-)

  • hrmm now that the qx1 is coming this might be just the lens
