  • Is this good? I was thinking of getting it for a friend for net/movies

    • Pretty good price providing it is brand new
Cheapest on StaticICE is $597.00 at Penta Computers (NSW) | www.penta.com.au

    • It is a good price, but an average laptop. If they just surf the net, play music etc (low processing power things) then yeah it's good. If they do anything more a better spec machine would be required, unless they like waiting a while for things to load. if I got it, I'd upgrade the ram to at least 2GB though, I have 4GB on my machine and its chewed very quickly after startup. Windows hogs a gig of it on its own (all this laptop has), let alone everything else.

If you are running vista then that is normal.
Vista fills your ram with programs you use however might not have open, this is the value called "cached".
This way they load faster when you go to use them.

To add to that if you open Internet Explorer each day at 1pm a few minutes beforehand vista will load IE into your ram so that it is ready to go when you click the icon.

If the cached ram is needed by a program which is not cached then it is instantly dropped so the new program can use the ram.

For example, on my PC at the moment out of 6gig or ram 9mb is listed as "free" however 4 gig is cached.
This means windows and open programs are using 2gig of ram, 4 gig of ram is ready to be used whenever i need access to (however is filled with information as windows is guessing what i will need it for) it and 6mb is currently completley empty.

don't think Celerons can even do HD

It's not a dual core ….. hence the lower price. Womder if it comes with a free windows 7 upgrade?

    • I'd say so

      http://www.isd.toshiba.com.au/windows7upgrade/upgrade.html

      1) Purchase any Toshiba Notebook running Windows Vista® [Home Premium, Business or Ultimate] between June 26th 2009 and January 31st 2010 .

This will get an upgrade to Win7 HP, though you have to pay the S&H of $30, so its not quite free.

      • +1

Well, an excellent buy if you don't need a lot of power. You'd be hard pushed to find another Win7 machine for that price.

great deal! Don't forget to upgrade ram from MSY ($18 for 1 GB and $32 for 2 GB)

    Rams should be DDR2 (800MHz)

    http://msy.arpatubes.net/display.php?type=category&query=26

    and $ 30 for win 7 upgrade!

  • +1

Judging by the price, it probably only supports 667mhz DDR2 ram, not that it really matters

  • What specs would you need in a laptop to playback 1080p video files?

    • +1

Integrated video with hardware decoding (i.e. Intel X4500HD and ATi/nVIDIA equivalents) or dedicated video card.

      • And a BluRay/ HD DVD drive to actually run the disks(discs).
If you want to play a BD ROM, please consider buying a dedicated player.

  • Good deal, would work much better in windows 7 though.

  • The specs are a bit underwhelming, but damn the price is good.

I might consider this over a netbook… netbooks are way too small for my liking and this fits the bill perfectly.

Bluffers - greedy scamers, changed the price to $559 (with mandatory silly 1 GB upgrade)after they saw a good demand. Don't buy and boycott them.

  • Sorry we mean promotion already finish. Thanks

    • But your ad says:
      ——-WHILE STOCK LAST———

if you have stock, the promo should still be running….??

      • How about they managed to buy say $20 at a cheaper price than usual so they offered them for sale at a cheaper rate.

Now all 20 have sold so they are back to selling the ones which they purchased at a more expensive price.

        No conspiracy there..

        • very naive of you Antony! (although I believe you are just one of them camouflaging to look as an innocent shopper). Such retailers do not operate on such basis.

I really criticize ozbargain in the first place for allowing such money hungry sellers to use ozbargain as a leverage for their dirty tricks.

Believe what you want, it isnt going to make it true.

retailers do not operate on such basis.

Hmm you must have no idea about running a business.

we only got limited stock with promo price.

  • yeah now i 100% agree with the above with what 2true2btrue says:
