Energy Monitor recommendation

Looking to buy a handy energy monitor to check amps and wattage used by my appliances. Want the plug ones so I can plug it in and get individual readings.

Cheapest one I have found is $19 from Jaycar. Anybody knows of any cheaper ones than that?

Cheers.

I don't think you want the cheapest one - I think you want an accurate one that doesn't cost the earth. Or maybe I'm wrong :-)

Jaycar have two energy monitors, one at around $20 and the other at around $30. The cheaper one has a poor reputation.

I have this unit http://steplight.com.au/monitor/plug-in-electricity-power-me… and it's a useful product.

Some people have reported that this unit is the same as the more expensive Jaycar unit, and it does look the same, but I don't know one way or the other.

However, should the Jaycar unit turn out to be crap, I suspect it would be easy to return.

    • Just grabbed it, but the LCD display seems to be too light (The digits seem to be faded instead of strong black). Is this normal?

      • The display on mine seems fine to me - definitely not something that I'd call "too light".

  • Yep good point pjetson :)
So looks like its the $30 one from Jaycar. I'll go have a look today.

    Cheers. :)
