I was at Vodafone this afternoon to buy the prepaid WiFI pocket (from deal $29.50 with 3GB) and the lady told me if you want the WiFi pocket there is a better option. To get a month to month plan and you will get the WiFi for FREE but you need to cancel the plan before the next month started

I went with the option $20 with 2.5GB as I only want the modem.
Also I have been told its unlock but I just tried a Telstra sim didn't work I emailed them and waiting for a response.

I hope some one find this deal useful

    What you say:

To get a month to month plan and you will get the WiFi for FREE

    What I see:

    One-off modem cost $25

    • which better to pay $20 or $25?
if you get month to month plan with 2.5GB you only pay $20 plus you will have 2.5GB to use

      • +1

        I'm really not seeing it.

        $20 monthly + $25 one-off = $45

        • sorry just realise its not available online, only in store

        • +2

The offer is not available from online store, but if you ring up any Allphones store, you should able to get this deal confirmed. Valid until end of August.

    • +2

Actually you will get $25 credit when you signup $20 M2M plan, I believe this offer not available online but basically you just need to pay $20 for one month and you will get 2.5GB data with it, also you will get a prepaid start pack with 3GB data, plus a free Pocket Wifi of course.

      • At least this offer available from Allphones.
      • Why do you get a 3GB prepaid SIM as well when you sign up for a 2.5GB post paid plan.

So, 5.5GB, modem, and $25 credit for $20? That seems too good a deal. Are you sure?

        • Because the stock (at least we used) are prepaid package, which contains a 3GB prepaid start package and a wifi modem, so if the store want to keep that prepaid sim, there's nothing to complaint, but we just give that SIM away since not really useful and $0 cost for us. So this really depends on which types of store you went to.

          Good luck! :)

        • @cleverbook:
Thanks - great deal. I assumed you must be supplying the prepaid box. Will check out Allphones in Brisbane on Monday.

@cleverbook: Hi cleverbook. Tried to contact one all phone store in Melbourne but they said there is no such scheme. Can you please advise any store which will honour

  • go here first:
    https://unlock.vodafone.com.au/voila/handsetunlock/self-serv…

if not then get the unlock off someone on ebay

    • I tried before contact them but I got "Handset IMEI Not Found"
they told me in store its free to unlock it, so will wait

log into your wifi modem by typing into your browser 192.168.0.1 then on the top of that page right hand side where it says password type admin then log in.

once there click on mobile broadband in the red banner, then on the left side off the page below status, sim pin, click on connection on that page and then you'll see account type in the middle where it says prepaid drop down box select custom now type in under APN telstra.internet then under number *99# then under SECURITY select CHAP then go down the page and click SAVE

now log out close your broser turn of you wifi modem and put telstra sim in and it should all work for you.

ps: i got one the other day and it to was unlocked.

you are LEGEND, thank you very much solved my problem.
it worked without any problem, thanks again.

        • +1

no worries glad i could help, now you can use vodafone sim or telstra sim just by changing sims.

        • Yes, you need to change APN settings for different Telco.

I've been using an unlocked old Vodafone Pocket WiFi 2 for years. Dragged it out last night to use with Telstra & it detected Telstra, but repeatedly failed to connect. That's a sure sign that APN settings need to be changed. Logged into settings through the dashboard - posting on it now.

Had posted the $49 Telstra 4G modem + 5GB deal, but found Telstra charged me 5 times the rate for using 4G instead of 3G! So off to buy one of these :-)
Besides, I have a year's worth of Vodafone data SIMs (& drawer full of unlocked USB modems) from Coles $9 deal.

  • +1

Looks like only the 3G model not the newer 4G model

  • I got the same deal yesterday. There should be a requirement: you should have a contract with vodafone already. If you are a vodafone prepaid customer you can get the modem with half price but not this deal.
It took $25 displayed on the receipt but the stuff told me it will be back as credit for your existing bill next month.

  • I have a Virgin plan for 40$ 12 gb including free modem

    • Is this pre paid or contract? 3G wifi Modem?

      • +1

        by the scraps off a 2100/MHz N/W.

      • 4g postpaid contract 12 months.

    • Yes, and:
+ Virgin [pre-paid] is "Bill Shock free"
+ Virgin gives 6 GB for $30 / Mon (data only, tablet rate table, but works in Android phone)

      • We know Virgin uses Optus.

    • Virgin: 6 GB for $30 (on tablet, iPad rate table, but SIM works in (eg, dual-SIM) phones

  • So, which make/model model was provided?

    • The pocket wifi model R208

  • Does Voda' charge. by the KB, or some larger quantum (eg, 1 MB)?

    • VF bill per KB, not MB. There is huge difference between 2.

  • I trust the WiFi Pocket device runs from battery.
+ How long does it work after charging it?
+ Is charging jack Micro USB, like on Android phones (so we can extend its run-time with our external battery?

    • How long, not sure yet but it has 60% when I got it and after browsing the internet for two hours still has 40%. I didn't charge it yet.
Yes it's charging by Micro USB which included in the box with a charger

  • Apologies for SO MANY short comments (above)

. by OzB's free Android app.

  • Asked in Vodafone store about this modem on prepay - $24.50 with 3GB until start of November. But I didn't find out about this deal. Thanks.

    • I am happy to upload the receipt if that's will help. I believe this offer should available at all Vodafone stores

      • Op. Are you already with Vodafone? This deal seems only applicable to Vodafone customers. Otherwise modem is $25.

        • no I wasn't with Vodafone, they are giving this to new customers too.

        • @msmhw:

I tried a few allphones and vodafone stores and none if them would budge, all of them said it was $25 if you are not a vodafone post paid customer and were only able to do the website deal.

        • +1

@Crownanchor: I noticed from you profile you are in sydney. If it's near by try burwood store. I got mine from there.

        • i am already with vodafone .got this pocket wifi on 20 $ month 2 month plan for 18$ as they gave further 10 percent off to existing customers.even if u r new i believe they give it to u for 20$ plan for 3gmodem if u want 4g capable pocketwifi then it was 25 dollor one time fee for modem plus 20 for the plan .in short u get 3g modem for 20$ {18$ for existing}
          4g modem for 20+25 =45$
only if u cancel withing first month

        • @Fixmyi:
Was told that is only if a Vodafone post pay customer. I'm prepaid, so would have to pay $29.50 + $20/m for this modem. Checked with several Vodafone shops. Gave up trying & using a 4G phone as my modem.

  • Can this be used for international roaming $5 a day deal? Just want to use it for a free days until i grab a local SIM and activate it.
    Cheers

    • Unfortunately Red Roaming service is only available on selected postpaid voice service.

Any Vodafone store can honour this , the call centre will also match the deal if you need.

Don't let a store sell you a prepaid unit, they are locked and come with an unlocking fee.

Best piece of advise I can give you.. if you want to connect to Vodafone and you want ACTUAL customer service.. DONT CONNECT AT AN ALLPHONES STORE!!

    • +1

That's funny when you say "if you want to connect to Vodafone and you want ACTUAL customer service.. DONT CONNECT AT AN ALLPHONES STORE!!"

What's the "Actual" customer service that Vodafone store provided?

BTW: unlock code cost you less than $5 on ebay.

      • +1

Also if you have signed up on month to month and do receive a "prepaid" modem from Allphones you should be able to get it unlocked for free on the basis it was supplied with a month to month contract.

I also note last time I purchased a prepaid Vodafone Wifi Extreme from BigW it was unlocked out of the box.

      • LOL.. where should I start!
Refusal to send phones of for service when faulty.
Signing customers who are in loyalty up to NEW connects then cancelling their old plans when they expire so the allophones store owner gets a NEW commission instead of an upgrade one.
Refusing to help with billing issues and telling customers to "call sales support"

The list goes on… its well known amongst Vodafone stores/dealers that Allphones give up on their customers once they have signed on the dotted line.

        • +1

Understand why you say so, but I believe this still depends on the sales rep.

Anyone managed to get the 3gb prepaid kit, pocket wifi and $25 credit for $20 M2M at VF stores? Can share the receipt?

    Thanks
