It seems Sydney Tools is having a Makita sale too on other kits.

Not sure on sale end

Nice is the owner still underpaying backpackers to illegally work in his stores?

    • Don't know how someone can complain about being underpaid if working illegally. If you can't legally work under the conditions of your visa, then any payment is overpayment.

Saying that, I definitely don't condone the employment of illegal workers, but I wouldn't consider illegally working backpackers to be victims of underpayment. They are just another side of the same problem.

My head's hurting. So it's okay to underpay workers as long as they're breaking the law also?

          I think it says that… I think

I want cheap tools not happy backpackers.

    • again still not the place, there was one shop up the coast who smashed all of sydney tools prices in just outta principle.

      • details?

  • This is cheap! I paid $500 for this a couple years ago. Ok not so good now it doesn't include batteries.

  • Where does it say 3 x batteries?
There are 2 in the pic but I can't even see 2 mentioned in the details … just the specs for the battery, not how many.

    • You are right, I thought I had read multiple times there were 3 batteries.

      I've updated the description.

Let me warn you about my last experience with 'Sydney Tools'.

I purchased two 'skins'(cordless tool without battery) from this mob. Paid $18.95 for express 1-2 day courier delivery. After the 3rd day I called them up and was told that it was a 5-7 day 'processing time' followed by a 1-2 day delivery. When asked for a refund because I did not see this on their page (nor could I find it after I went back and looked), I was flat out told no refunds (since then they've changed their page to make it clearer that there was a 5-7 day delivery time).

1 week passes, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, now i'm trying to call up only getting hung up on. Finally I open up a paypal dispute and on the last day of the dispute (now 4 weeks) they said it was sent. Another week later and I only received 1 of the tools with no explanation, and it is not complete! Sent only in a bag with no protection, no box, no manual, and through Australia Post!!! After I paid for express courier delivery!

Change PayPal dispute to 'not as described' and they now say that one of the tools is out of stock and will not be delivered for another 2-3 months?!

Called up PayPal and complained and luckily they were very easy and ruled that if I send back what I received they would refund the total amount to me less the return cost.

    NEVER AGAIN!

This is a link to their old eBay feedback page, it looks like i'm not the only one to have things take forever to arrive.

    http://feedback.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&u…

    TLDR;

Ordered $500 of stuff, took 5 weeks for 1/2 of it to arrive (that half incomplete too) only after PayPal dispute. Thank god I had paypal to fall back on. Never again! Buy now and probably expect 1/2 of it by xmas!

    • I was planning a pick up anyway, but it always helps that user experiences are always balanced with "good deals" as sometimes customer services suffers in the race to the bottom dollar.

      • I would def. pick up and pay in person when you see the goods. I'm all for a good price and they do have good prices, but the experience of this purchase just makes my blood boil! If I didn't live 3 hrs away from the nearest one I would have probably gone in store, now though I wouldn't even go there if they were next door!

    • This month alone would be 80% rating.

    • To save you yet another sob story, I would only ever recommend going in to a store and doing an over-the-counter transaction with them. That seems to be their strength. I had a situation back in December where they didn't honour the price-beat (at the time, by 10%) guarantee. This wasn't even trying to price beat a competitor, but the official manufacturer's website price. Anyway, only ever fixed around 4 months later and after multiple escalations and calling the manager every week when he never called back.

  • Just read all those reviews, OMFG, don't know how I'd never come across all these horror stories before. How I can remove my up-vote for the deal?

In addition to all the negative reviews on Ebay there's this - http://www.productreview.com.au/p/sydney-tools.html

I wouldn't be buying anything off this mob

Crikey. It is known that people are more likely to voice their complaints rather than compliment but all that on productreview paints quite a picture!

Worst company to deal with. They held on to my money for weeks only to inform me later that they do not have stock.

  • Sounds like a pity about the store as it is a good deal price wise.

  • Agree about buying in person, not a pleasant experience dealing with their staff but at least you know what you're getting. I'd also suggest opening the box to confirm everything's there and new.

  • Just so everyone knows, the drill itself is only semi-industrial. the 456 models are the cheaper, 458 being heavy duty brushed, and 481 being heavy duty brushless. Also Sydney Tools are horrible to deal with, just my 2c.

    • So these are good enough tools for your home handyman, and should last the distance providing we don't push them too hard on an everyday basis?

I'm specifically looking for a drill with the 13mm bit size, and the extended battery of 3.0aH.

Lots of the cheaper 18v drills have only got capacity for 10mm bits with 1.5aH batteries, or cheaper 1.3aH or 1.2aH batteries if they have 13mm drill bit capacity.

      • +1

They are decent for the home handyman, yes. This is a very good price and I highly doubt anyone else will be able to beat it for a handyman kit. The only problem is you have to deal with Sydney Tools!

        • I won't let the wife go down there then to buy it, and will go myself.

If it isn't in stock I won't buy.
