US PlayStation Plus Membership Setup Guide

Here's a quick tutorial for those wanting a US PS+ membership :)

If you want a US PS+ membership and want to play online using your existing AUS account you will need to setup a secondary US account using the US PlayStation site:

https://www.playstation.com/en-us/home/

There you will need to enter a US address and use one containing a US state that does not have sales tax such as one of the Portland Universities:

PO Box 751
Portland, Oregon
97207-0751
United States

Then you need to purchase a US PS+ membership. I can vouch for this seller, bought 2 years worth for $84 ($42 each) when they had them on special:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/121345728193

The seller will send the code to your eBay messages.

Login to your new US account on your PS4 and set it as the Primary account in the settings.

Enter the US PS+ code purchased from eBay by using 'Redeem Codes' down the bottom in the US PlayStation Store.

Now if you want to purchase anything from the US PlayStation Store, you will need to add funds to your PSN wallet.

Go to Amazon.com and make sure you use the same US address as stated above to purchase these:

http://www.amazon.com/10-PlayStation-Store-Gift-Card/dp/B00G…

Redeem them the same way you did the PS+ membership, logged in to your US account on your PS4, and input within the US PlayStation Store.

Now you can switch back and forth between your new US account and your current AUS account and enjoy the cheaper benefits of the US PlayStation Store whilst still being able to play online using your current AUS account! :)

This should also work for PS3 and PSvita.

    Thanks

  • Going by taxfoundation.org, Delaware, Montana, Oregon and New Hampshire, seem to have no sale tax
    http://taxfoundation.org/article/state-and-local-sales-tax-r…

  • Thanks mate,
I heard last year on black friday US sales they had 12month for $30 at BESTBUY, http://camelbuy.com/product/9928881
any idea how we can get in on this, this year ?
did amazon have it $30, cheapest i found they had was $40 using camelcamelcamel, but i may not be looking in the right place

  • So there's no problem playing games purchased on your US account while logged on with your US account? How's that work? Is the game license tied to the PS4 unit rather than the specific account? (or a combination or account and PS4?)

    • Answered my own question with some research. Game sharing allows you to download a game on a console with one account and play it with another account as long as the account which originally purchased the game is still stored on the console.

      • So when I got my PS4 I made two accounts. 1st Us account, by using US address and state with no sales tax and I made that primary. Then I made my normal Australian account but I didn't make that primary because if I did it would over right previous primary (i.e my US account).
Then I bought the 12 month PSN+ from ebay, the code was emailed to me instantly fro $50 AUD. I went to my US account PSN and redeemed code. Then I went out, clicked out on Switch User to my Aus account, put in BF4 and started playing multiplayer everything working fine.

To see what happened if I Played BF4 from my US account it just asks to make a new solider all over again, so pretty much you can play BF4 two different soldiers since you would have both AUS and US account.

The PSN+ membership gets 'locked' / 'attached' to your ps4 as long as that PSN+ account is signed and PRIMARY, anyone else can log on with anyother account and play online with no problem.

        • . Then I made my normal Australian account but I didn't make that primary because if I did it would over right previous primary (i.e my US account).

Lol totally untrue, you can have as many primary accounts as you want. It's setting that PS4 as the primary PS4 for that PSN account which just means all content from that account is available to that PS4 regardless if it's logged in or not. If you don't make it primary then you have to actively sign into that account to use it's licenses.

I have my AU account primary on the PS4 so I can use the Destiny DLC code that came with the game while I'm on my US PSN which has my PS+ sub and a few games I've purchased from PSN. If I sign into my Japan account I can use the destiny DLC from the AU account and also the PS+ sub from the US account as well as any PS+ IGC games

  • If I alraedy have an AUS PS+ account, is there any benefit to getting a US PS+, or am I better off just opening a US Account and buying from their store, without the PS+ subscription?

    • You need a PSN Plus account to access the discount prices, so, no, unless you want to pay for another PSN Plus account there's no point, however, it may still be worth it if you intend buying a lot of digital games. Do your research and game prices AU vs US on the PS Store.

      • When you talk about access to the discount prices, you mean the special PS+ offers, right? Like some titles have 20% off for PS+ members?

I've just used my US account to buy The Last of Us for $49.99 US - it didn't list any other discounts, but would this have been cheaper had I been a US PS+ member?

        • I don't even have my PS4 yet so I'm only basing this on what I've read.

I mean that as a PSN+ member you get discounts when games are on sale (non PSN+ members don't get them), but not necessarily better base prices so don't worry, you didn't lose/miss anything.

Heads up. That seller that OP linked to now has the subscription for $40US. Noticed it in my watch list and pounced.

    • +++ for you, sir!

  • Many thanks for the setup guide, however I've hit a snag.

I've created a US PSN account and can access the US PS Store on my AUS PS4. I've purchased a 12 month subscription to US PS+ (from pcgamesupply.com), but when I try to redeem the code in the US PS Store I receive error code E8200002E. This means invalid credit card. But based on the above guide I assume there's some way to redeem US PS+ subscription codes without having a US credit card and matching billing address. Am I missing something here? Thanks!

    • Don't add billing details. Just redeem code through your US account on your ps4.

      • Thanks, I managed to get it to work. I should have explained better. I hadn't added any billing details to the US account but was still getting the CC error, which was puzzling. However, I did have a CC registered on my AUS account from my PS3 days, and I also discovered that auto renewal was on in this account. After deleting this CC and turning off auto renewal, the code worked in the US account - at least, this seems to have been the solution. In any case, it's working now so all good :)

    • Buy credit on amazon and redeem to buy stuffs

      • http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/121345728193 is the place for PSN+ subscriptions.

Amazon is the best place to buy PSN pre-paid codes for $$ values. (we pay 10% more due to the exchange rate, but you save more than 10% on the games so it's worth it).

        • Thanks, I'll use these in future.

        • The eBay link says “Doesn’t post to Australia”. Changed?

    Good stuff!

  • So I'm thinking about buying a US Playstation Plus subscription, and using my Aussie account to play games. However, by doing this, I'll end up missing out on a few Playstation Plus features.

Is there anyone else who does this? Do the missing features bother you much, or are they no big deal? The feature I think I'd really miss is the online game save storage .

    • Good question, I've jad the same thought. I've seen enough people state that they are happily playing on their us account to think that's probably viable, no need for a local account. Would love to hear from anyone who has tried both, particularly if it affects multiplayer games.

Thanks a lot for the guide. I will no doubt be referring back to this for future DLC purchases.

  • If I purchase Destiny in Australia but have a US Playstation Plus Account will it still work ??

  • If a friend of mine has an AUD psn+ account, and I get a US psn+ account will be be able to play co-op in games such as destiny or Farcry 4 (when released). ?

  • I am having problems getting the 1 month free trial now I have a new US PLaystation Plus account, it asks me for a credit card number, and my Australian one doesn't seem to work, anyone got any ideas on how to get round this ?

  • Question guys.. if I setup a US PSN+ account .. but want to get Destiny DLC on my AU account will it work?

    • US and AU dont mix from my understanding

      AU and UK are ok

      • I was thinking what if I login with the US PSN+ .. run Destiny-Au and purchase the DLC from there..

then log back with my AU account.. would that not work?

    • +2

You need to buy the DLC from the same region the game is, so if your Destiny was AU Retail, you need to log in and buy it with your AU PSN account (doesn't have to be PSN+), you can then play that DLC from your US PSN+ account as long as it is on the same PS4 as the AU account (and the AU account needs to be set as the primary on that console).

      • Thanks Scratch2k .. one more thing.. can I play this logged into my AU PSN account .. while my US account has the PSN+ as the primary account on my console?

        • +1

Not sure about that, I'm pretty sure since Destiny is always online it requires a PSN+ account. If you're worried about lag or being matched with US players, Destiny (and most matchmaking) don't use the account origin as the primary match criteria, if you are playing in AUS you will most likely end up playing with AU people, even if you are logged in to a US PSN+ account.

If you want to play with your AU account for trophies or some other reason, I think you'll need to get PSN+ for it, but don't quote me on that, I always play with my US PSN+ account and haven't tried playing with my AU non-PSN+ account.

        • @Scratch2k:

          Interesting thanks!..

I need to find out if I can play online with an non psn+ AU account.. with a US PSN+ account.

  • Can I use the same email for both my EU(primary) and US(secondary) PSN accounts?

My plan was to buy games and DLCs on the US account and play them on the EU one. Is that correct? or am I missing something?

    • Yes, that will work as long as both accounts are set as the PRIMARY account on the PS4.

      • thanks, ill try it out tonight

      • Can both accounts be set as primary on a single console?

        • I'm pretty sure I have done this, yes.

  • Hi guys.
Planning to get a US psplus. But will i still be needing an australian ps plus?
I will be paying the US membership to play online and take advantage of cheaper dlc games.
But since i already payed for the US, i dont want to pay for th AU account.
So i only have 1, which is the US.
How will the online gaming be? (Playing VS on Fifa15)
Will i be having any issues?

    • Nope, I have both and I've never even used my AU account, you should be fine with using a US account exclusively.

      • interesting. as you have said, just use 1 account, which is the US account here in Australia would be fine.
Play on-line games and buy stuff there.

As i was monitoring some discussions, a few number of people are maintaining 2 accounts (and i assume both are paid accounts).

        • +1

I had a free AU PSN+ for a month to test it out.. so I had to register an AU account.. but I didnt want to be paying $70 per year for PSN+ … so I bought a US PSN+ .. and still use my AU PSN(expired now).. since Ive already got trophies and friends list and saved games on it.

        • @soulmind23:
we already have a PSN Paid account before (AU) for the PS3. Now the PS4, i reckon we need to pay to play online with friends. So the thing is wanted to just grab the US PSN. but will my expired PSN for AU still work? Even thou i havent renewed it?
Sorry for the questions, as i am a bit confused/newbie on this one..

        • @Macky1012:

no worries, basically buy a US PSN+ card.. register a US account
(use this guide to setup your US PSN+ : https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/157351 )
then you can log back in with your AU account and play online as normal! it doesnt matter that your AU psn+ expired as long as the US psn+ is set it as the primary account.

        • @soulmind23:

Thanks for that. Will give this a shot!

  • These are now back in stock but they've been raised to $US 48.85.

    Bastards!

  • I have read this post from beginning but just want to confirm:

I need to make a US account.
I need to buy a US PS+ subscription.
I can now use my AU account and play online as normal.

Does it matter if i make my AU account primary or does US account have to be primary or both is available?
Also with the PS+ free games every month, I'm guessing it will be on the US account and not AU account?

Sorry I am just a bit confused.
