If your internet is "crap", then a Chromecast will not be much fun. However, if you get rid of your Foxtel, maybe you can upgrade your internet - does Foxtel or Optus cable run by your house?

    • no i just have foxtel ….no optuz

Chromecast and foxtel are too completly seperate things.

Chromecast is basically a media player that allows you to "send videos" (mainly youtube) from your tablet or pc to your computer. You need a good internet connection

    • "…from your tablet or pc to your computer".

Isn't it typically to your TV (HDMI input)?

      • sorry, wrote it as i ran out the door

        should be:

from your tablet or pc to your TV screen.

        This explains it:

        • so i rather stay with foxtel

        • Do i want to watch youtube on my tv? Do i have a pandora or a preso subscription?

If the answer is no, then you won't want this.

        • @TurkishDelight:
There is a little more to it, than the simplistic analogy.

Chromecast is a mini computer addon to you TV.
It uses either Tablet or Phone as a Remote Control (not a video transfer).

The device is capable of using apps, currently a hand full of native ones for Foxtel Substitutes including Presto(foxtel product) and QuickFlix
          http://www.google.com/intl/en_au/chrome/devices/chromecast/a…

any video streaming accessible in a Chrome browser also work.

If you are able to use iView Foxtel Play (you are free to use as a foxtel subscriber) on your internet. You wont have any trouble with Chromecast

  • Unless you have a lot of local media or subscribe to a streaming service like netlflix, a chromecast isn't going to be a very good choice for you.

    • Chromecast currently doesn't support any local media content?

Chrome Cast currently only works with streaming services and web content
Previously A work around is setting up a streaming webserver in your home.
However Apps for paid media server product plex appears to be on the list to install now. Which are you using one to access local content ?

That said Presto and Quickflix are quite affordable these days

      • I use Plex for all my local media and would recommend it to anyone. The Plex app works very, very well with the Chromecast.

If USB isnt available Chromecast will need either the USB into Phone charger or use the AC adapter. (USB isnt used for anything)

If you can iview ABC live streaming uninterrupted most SD streaming in Presto or Quickflix should work and is much cheaper per month then foxtel.

It is a good idea for you to buy one chromecast for $50 and get Presto for $10 for one month.

If it works cancel your foxtel, save $20 a month? pays off chromecast in 3 months
If it doesnt work smoothly enough is short to no contract lengths cancel presto or use on a PC instead.
