Can I exchange a pair of shoes bought from US online at AUS brick and mortar store?

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a pair of Nike shoes online from Eastbay US but after trying it on, it's the wrong size. Instead of sending it back to Eastbay (and paying for the expensive return shipping), can I take the pair of shoes to a local Nike store in Sydney and ask them to exchange for a different size? (Shoes are brand new)

Obviously I don't have a Nike store receipt; but would Nike honour an exchange only considering they operate under the global brand?

Cheers in advance.

You can certainly try, but there is no obligation for a local store to exchange, and I'd be very surprised if they did.

A private Australian business owns and runs the stores in Sydney, not Nike.

  • Probably not. They are 2 different companies. Eastbay is more of a discounter. Plus Nike shoes are generally price higher in Australia than US and some models are not available here

  • Nothing but a desire for a clear conscience stops you from buying an -identical- pair of shoes - in the right size - & accidentally returning the shoes you have now, saying, eg: "It's my birthday & my partner - knowing I needed a new pair - got me a pair as a pressie."

Or: "These just don't feel right on my feet, after 15 minute of wear."

Of course boxes might not match… or receipt might show a size (encoded?)…

Before buying, be sure you can return them…

NEXT TIME: Reverse the order of visiting local store (to determine the size you need) & ordering online. ;-)

Can anyone confirm if Nike receipts show the size (encoded)?

      • I hope no one helps you to carry out a fraudulent activity.

      • Yes they will.. each size will have a different barcode.

That's the price of buying online. Sometimes you get the wrong size but surely you did your research and new what size, size conversion from other countries etc etc before purchasing?

I've never heard of Nike refunding products 'globally' and I certainly hope you don't do anything unethical.

      This..
You (OP) elected to take the risk of buying (cheaper) online.. so suck it up and pay the return shipping or sell the shoes to a mate!

  • I will be returning it by post. Cheers for the advice.

I was hoping they might honour an exchange only as some other transnational companies do (e.g. Apple).

    • Wow, I didn't know apple will exchange a 16gb iPhone from kogan for a 64gb iPhone.

  • In my experience Nike in Australia won't even refund/exchange between Australian store because they are a franchise (different owners)

  • Try being honest and offering them $20 to do the exchange.
