Gift cards will be valid for 3 months? not a lot of time to spend when we still have so many gift cards sitting around.

    • Pretty easy for us as we fill up at Caltex/Woolies and use the Wish gift cards for them.

      • Well I still have $400 worth of EFTPOS gift card from the Ebay sale and I still want to take advantage of my 5% cashback from ING direct which will expires in about 3 months.

        • why don't you use these first and the 12mth expiries second?

        • Or buy a new gift card with your soon expiring gift card(s). Then you get an extra 12 months.

        • @YOTR: Can you really do that? I panic when the Wish cards dates get close.

        • @anna10:

I always use Big W gift cards to buy Wish gift cards as they cost less to redeem. So yes you can buy gift cards with gift cards.

        • Technically, we are not allowed to buy gift card with gift card. I was prevented from doing it when I asked nicely at Coles.

    • It's a bummer that they're only valid for 3 months, but most households spend enough on groceries and petrol every week that you'd get through quite a few gift cards in 3 months. If you've already got some gift cards on the go though it's probably not the deal for you sorry, but hopefully it'll be of some use for others.

      • It's still a good deal, just that amex is a bit cheeky to give us only 3 months to spend it

  • 12,150 for a $100 gift card is not bad if you're going to use it within that 3 months….. alternatively, redeem your points for cash (exchange rate of 12,000 for $100 (http://www.americanexpress.com/australia/campaigns/mrforeign…) for the next time you travel overseas. That's what I do…. :-) [Note - there may or may not be a fee depending on what sort of card you have]

    • depends on the actual exchange rate you're getting. Banks are notoriously underselling the foreign currency. Check out providers like https://www.currencyfair.com/ for foreign money exchange.

      • I get a really good rate at Amex, but again it depends on your card. If you have a bog standard green job, then the rates may not be so good.

        • Which type of issued Amex cards do this deal apply to?

  • whats the best use of american express MR rewards points?, flights????, these gift cards?
