Is it any good? Seems a good price!

  • Missing an important detail: On sale from tomorrow, Wednesday 6/8

  • Is it Made in Australia?

    • +2

      Sure ;-)

      • Same, same…

what brand is this? ROTOR? I can't find any info on this brand. Anyone got a link for the full specification?

  • Probably similar (or same as?) this - http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?p=15755623

Edit, assuming it is similar to above link it doesn't look bad. The video shows a lot of vibration, but where it smooths out it is reasonably good. I assume it would be better helmet mounted so at least your poor carcass is absorbing the shudder.

I about to start riding my bike to work again. Was thinking about a camera to record the drivers I come across who still cannot see a massive bright yellow lump on a bike :)

  • I will be scouting for one tomorrow! For $49, is it 10x worse than a GoPro? Not sure.

Edit: Scrap that, I'm going Kmart! Thanks davicta.

    • Our closest K-Mart is 1.5 hours away. I'll be trying this Coles one tomorrow and will see what it is like.

kmart viewsonic is only 1.3MP , coles is 5mp camera

      • Oh, good point. I should really compare the cameras first before buying.

      • definitely worth the $10 bucks extra

      • Be careful not to compare apples with oranges! The coles camera does NOT claim to have a 5MP camera, only that it takes 5MP snapshots [I supect interpolated from a 1.3MP camera]. The kmart viewsonic admits to a 1.3MP camera but review says it takes 5MP [2592x1944] stills.

Compare the Navig8r Sports Cam 720: 5MP HD Digital Camera [www.oo.com.au/Navig8r-Sports-Cam-720-5-0MP_P177859.cfm] It claims '5.0MP and 2560 x 1920p photo quality' but specifications reveal 'Image Sensor: 1.3M CMOS'

I believe none of these cameras has a true 5MP camera!

As always with cheap cameras, the "720P" is misleading. That is the resolution of the file, but the actual image resolution is much lower.

Beats duct-taping your mobile phone to the handlebars though.

I was down at local Target tonight and noticed they had a 1080p one on special for $79.00 (normally $129.00). I thought what the hell, couldn't be worse than the $45 one I was going to get and hopefully the 1080p means it looks a little better than being filmed by a potato.

    http://www.target.com.au/p/target-full-hd-1-8-p-action-camer…

This one is a 5MP sensor. Has 5 minute loop mode (just tested that and it deletes any old ones once you start, need to be careful). It is dark now, but quality seems OK for dark scenes. Will see how it goes on the deadly treadly tomorrow.

    • Where is the location of your local Target store? In Ipswich they are still $129

  • anyone snagged one yet and care to comment/review ?

I just got one from coles. Still charging. From the spec, it is

    1.3MP CMOS sensor

    1280 by 720 at 30 fps
    or
    640 by 480 at 60 fps

comes with helmet, car, and bar connectors.

    Any other information you want?

    • Would you explain about vehicle-mounted(car connector) mode?
Is it capable of recording whilst USB charging?

      • It can be used as a webcam so I believe you can use it while charging.

The vehicle mounted tool is very similar to the car GPS mount.

    • got one to….posted something similar under the Aldi cam thread

    • the car mount is your standard compression suction cup with 2 axis lockable pivot.

      • Does it have a car charger?

        • No, no car charger.

  • Is this the same as KMart one?

Any info about how deep you can go under the water?

  • I picked up one of these today. Contacted the company about waterproof level, it is rated to 3 metres (excellent response time on the query - about an hour) They don't have detail on this model listed on their website however (www.e3style.com)

Quality is about what I expect for a camera at this price. Road test was attached to the mirror arm of a motorbike (helmet mount wasn't suitable for my helmet) Higher speeds (80 to 100km/h) it has some shuttering in the recorded image (seems to have trouble keeping up). Lower speeds more stable. It isn't supplied with a memory card so you need to get one to start recording with it, it takes the micro SD format (you can pick up a 16gb card about $15 to $20). Records with sounds but the camera itself doesn't have a speaker for playback.

Overall it performs as expected, unsure on battery life at this time but based off the road test I'd guess about 4 hrs record time on a charge.

  • well i have both now the Coles and Aldi and the Aldi one is going back….no suction cup mount (only the rubber mount with 3M tabs), no mounting thread available unless you use the waterproof enclosure, no menu system to make adjustments to the picture and its a wide angle lens so everything has a fisheye look. its smaller and more compact than the coles unit and has a better rear screen but thats about it for me….very disappointing. My brief look at the picture qaulity for video is it has worse low light performance vs the Coles unit and colour is over saturated.

  • I checked Target store in Ipswich and the TVS002 is still $129. NOT on special for $79

  • Hey does anyone know if this camera casing is rated to a depth of at least 30 metres? Thinking of buying it for my young sister who has just started scuba diving a few months back & wants to start playing with underwater video.

well i have now returned the two cameras i have purchased due to two flaws i found in the unit which makes it pretty useless for me….that and the fact the Australian distributer E3 showed scant regard in addressing the issue.

basically in 720p mode under good or better light conditions, the image flares brightly every second then stablizers back down….you can actually see the gradual decrease as you watch a recording.

then recording in the low res mode the image has a gentle stutter in the recording.

very disappointed because functionally etc this was a pretty good camera for the price and if E3 actually gave half a damm about there customers that they might endevour to come out with a firmware fix, because i reckon those issues can be fixed.

  • I bought this camera yesterday as the price was too good to pass up. I noticed that the box said it worked with Windows operating platform. I asked the staff when I purchased if it would work with my Mac as well and was told that it would. When I plugged it into my Mac, nothing popped up and when I searched some more, I couldn't find any software that might go with it. Can anyone tell me, do you know if it works with Mac operating systems and, if so, can you give me some direction to get that happening?

    Thanks…

    • Hi
I dont know if this works but try putting the sd card into your computer. Youll probably need a mirco sd adapter

  • I got this today but i cant get my windows 7 to recognise it :( i have all the windows updates.
and i cannot find a website for ROTOR which might have the drivers. can anyone help?
well it sort of recognises trhe camera but not the 'built in mic"
