Opening and closing everyday accounts

I have opened and closed around 4 different everyday accounts this year to take advantage of deals that give you $50 or $100 (anz, commonwealth, hsbc). I was just wondering, though, does that go in your credit history or any other history, and would it show as a terrible thing?

  • Not sure, but it is your money so I'd imagine not. Hopefully someone will be able to provide a more concrete answer :)

Would not go in your credit history at all. Bank might keep a record but that's about it. I'd imagine the only negative that could happen is that you become ineligible for the next bonus $$$ deal because you've had an account recently and the T&C's exclude it :P

    • thanks for the answer!

When you guys close your accounts after getting the bonus, do you have to ask them to completely remove you as a customer?
I recently closed my ING account after the 5% ended and I didn't want to continue at 2% but after they've closed my account, I can still login online.
It's just that there's no accounts showing when I log in. So they still technically have me as a customer I think?

I'm pretty sure this is so you can check your statements etc, after about 6 months your login is disabled.

  • It won't go in your credit history unless you overdraft/default on payments since it's not credit…
