  • Thanks OP, good find!

My biggest bug bear is that they dont accept 5.1 channel sound (well they cut it out a year or so last time i looked.) Is that still a problem ?

    • No, None of them (even AVPLAYER HD) have the Dolby digital or THX codecs anymore. A licensing issue I gather.

      • +2

Correct. I've just tested AC3 (Dolby Digital) and it doesn't have it. It was probably removed because dolby started demanding hefty licencing fees for their crappy audio codec.

Some provide AC3/Dolby Digital support as an in-app purchase. VLC supports dolby digital.
nPlayer and AVPlayerHD both claim to.

        • +5

i have been using nplayer for quite a while now. seems to play everything even dolby and dts. and plus it supports samba streaming, and streaming of subtitles!

        • +2

          @Zed:
Nplayer is what i use. Nothing else comes close. Especially because it can stream from my cifs share

      • My avplayer plays the dts mkv and blurays fine

      • It's Playing Pro has licensed Dolby Digital and AC3.

        Au$6.49.

Avplayer hd plays 5.1 no worries
Advice is to sync app to your pc and don't update if they remove it again but if you do than use the backup IPA on pc

  • can say best player I have. I paid for it and would recommend

Does it play free adult video?

  • +9

Beware. This is not the well-known AVPlayer.
AVPlayer is developed by Eplayworks, this one is by Dong Li. I believe it is just a counterfeit of the real AVPlayer.

    • +1

Good spotting… There's also 0 reviews on the app

    • You can search the free version "AVPlayer", it's also by Dong Li but with reviews. I think AVPlayer Plus Pro is just the paid, ad-free version of it.

      • +4

Nope, the free version you mentioned is another counterfeit by the same developer.

The real one is here (not free though, but you get what you pay for):
        https://itunes.apple.com/en/app/avplayer/id395680819

However, since I have not used this "AVPlayer" before, I cannot comment on how it compares with the "real AVPlayer".

        • +1

Or the AVPlayerHD. Very good player. But I think it never go on sale before.

  • I am still missing a decent player that could play movies from my NAS to the Chromecast. Is anyone aware of any apps like these that are free on iOS. VLC is still long way out for integrating Chromecast into its Apps.

    • Nope you need an Android.

    • it might depend on what brand your NAS is.

Synology's video player app lets me play to my NAS files direct to/through my either of my WD Live s. if my tv was lan compatable, that would also be an option. i assume so would chromecast

  • Thanks OP. Nice find as gplayer didn't cut it

  • Is it just me or is it still showing up as $3.79?

    • +1

thats the proper version.. this is the fake bootleg one!

  • Best player out there for iOS

  • So there are currently no iOS video apps that play DTS sound ?

  • +3

Just a notice for people think this is the best app. This is not the famous AVPlayerHD. The AVPlayerHD which is available several years still costs almost $4: https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/avplayerhd/id407976815?mt=8
The player in this post is a new app, which only have 12 reviews. Not truth worthy.
