Audi Q3 2.0L Petrol - Best Price?

Anyone have any info on the Audi Q3 2.0L Petrol. I'm looking to buy one in the next month or so, and can't seem to get a good price and they dealers don't seem honest. The price for no trade in was 55k drive away (including the Style Package, EVEN though on the website it said this was complimentary!!) from Zetland in Sydney. Then i asked if i traded in, they said they can no longer give me the 55k price. I'm not very familar with all of this, and always seem to get ripped off, so any guidance, help would be much appreciated.

Their 2.0L doesn't seem to have good reliability history. Bottle of Oil is going to be a resident in your boot.

Sounds like you need to go to a different dealer.

    • which Audi dealer would you recommend? Ive been to the Zetland and also Five Dock - both have not been very helpful…

If you can't get good sales from a company there's no way in hell you'll get any support. Don't push them just avoid like the plague and go to someone who wants make you happy for your $.

  • By the way read some reviews, compare some similar cars. Each to their own of course, the Q3 rates rather average from the reviews I've seen.

It's always good to look at what cars sell for overseas. If it's $30k overseas and $80k here you are still only getting a $30k car. Vs a $50k car overseas which costs $80k, theoretically going to be a lot better than the $30k one.

    Buy a Tiguan.

  • Among premium German brands, Audi is not famous for retaining the its value that well. The resale value of Audis usually plummet down to half in 2 to 3 years. Just check a couple of years old A4 or Q5 and you will figure out their price.

My suggestion would be to look at a couple of years old Merc C220 CDI or BMW 320D (both diesel engines). That way, you will be getting more mileage but don't have to pay premium unleaded price (which will most likely cross $2 mark in a year or two). Get an estate/wagon if you're after a large boot space. You can also check out BMW X1 - similar size like Q3. Some people don't like its shape though.

    • Good advice until you mentioned X1.

Before buying a Q3 I'd buy a VW Tiguan 132 (same engine as Q3), add leather if you want, and then get a ECU tune for under $1k to bring power up to 180kw/380Nm.

However langford28, you will be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't test drive a new Octavia RS 162 Wagon.

      • Haha I had started looking for a X1 X23D (dual turbo) last year but I ended up ditching that plan. My comment probably got biased due to that plan.

Selling a Skoda after a couple of years will be a hard job as well, don't you think so JB1?

        • Not really. The depreciation from the Skoda may be higher as a % of the car, but still lower than in $$$ compared to Q3/X1.

I just think the Q3 and X1 are for people who really want an Audi or BMW, but can't afford am Q5 or X3. They just look cheap to me.

What did you end up buying?

        • @JB1:
Nothing - decided to leave the $$ to the mortgage instead.
Still driving the old Astra 2008 that's hit 163k mileage. Thinking to keep it for another 10k (~1 yr) and may look at CX5 2.5L one. Don't like it's wombat-like front but may consider if I get a good deal for GT model.

You can do better, slow down & take your time. RESEARCH carsales.com.au & read WHEELS mag @ your local library for free.

How to neg, WALK AWAY, NEVER SIGN, NEG EVERYTHING IN THE ONE DEAL, NEVER BUY ANYTHNG AFTER MARKET

trades are fraught with angst as they make more money off yor current rig, better not to have one and either sell private then buy a new car or give it to a relative, mum/dad ect…

Q3 isn't much better than a cheap i35 IMO, you can do better but thats my option

Also call RACQ or whatever body is in your state and ask advice, they run adds for commercial deals for retail customers in the bi-monthy adds and you can always WAIT until the run a sweet drive-away deal in SAT paper too. Never rush, angels don't!

  • thanks guys!!! really appreciate it and will take more time doing my research then

  • Like a few people have mentioned, research a bit and take a lot of vehicles for a drive, not just audi/bmw/merc. try any SUV thats around the price you want to pay and you may find something you like even better - Toyota/Nissan/Mazda/Volvo lots of brands around, you may surprise yourself.

and if a dealer has bad service, ditch them and go somewhere else. My sister was after a VW Golf GTI, was promised heaps for a dealer in Melb, they were dropping one around to her business for a test drive - never turned up, she called they promised again the next day, same thing - she got a Merc instead. Don't put up with crap from sales staff.

  • I would also recommend you avoid trading in as you will probably get ripped off by the dealer for a few thousand. Just put an add on Carsales (or Gumtree) and wait for calls to come in. It's a little bit of a pain, but I would estimate that you save at least $100/hour of work you put into selling your own car.

Based on CarSales, it seems that Q3's in NSW start at around $50K so use that as a starting point

Also, if this is your first time buying a German car, make sure you are aware of service/insurance costs. They look really cool, but the full cost of ownership is very high. Going along with Rochow's comment, Euro car's sell at a huge mark up in Oz vs. USA as opposed to Japanese/Korean cars which are more or less the same price. I personally find this to be obnoxious business practice avoid companies that do this (i.e. Rebel Sport and Myer).

  • Bought three cars so far this year. One of them was a midsize "SUV" (still hate that term). Looked at all the options, wife liked the Q3.

However my experience with Audi/VW has been pretty bad, had a A4 Avant that had no end of problems, couldn't wait to get rid of it after 9 painful months of ownership. Plus the Q3 S-tronic is a relation to the VW 7-speed DSG which has a serious image/reliability problem. Plus Audis/VWs drink oil and call that "acceptable". Plus a dozen other things wrong with my A4 that I don't want to go through again with a Q3. Plus all the Audi salespeople I talked to were absolute dicks. Also looked at the Merc GLA which is about an inch taller than the A-class and too small. Didn't like the ix35 interior design, otherwise brilliant value. CRV is huge internally but otherwise pretty vanilla. And the rest were just meh.

Ended up choosing a Mazda CX5 grand touring which is amazing value by comparison. If you optioned up a Q3 to the same spec level as a CX5 GT it'd cost about $20,000 more than a GT. There's a good video here (http://autoexpert.com.au/buying-a-car/new-cars/qa/should-i-b…) if you can ignore the smug self-satisfied presenter.

If you're getting one as a salary sacrifice/novated/own business use vehicle and plan to get rid of it before the warranty expires, by all means go for a Q3. Wouldn't pay after-tax dollars on one, and wouldn't want to own one out of warranty.

    • Q3 S-tronic has nothing in commin with the VW 7-speed DSG apart from the fact they are both dual clutch transmission and owned by the VAG group.

The Q3 S-tronic is fine. The cheap VW 7-speed dry clutch DSG is a piece of shit.

Stay the crap away from Audi Centre Sydney.

The salesbloke (even though he's got a manager title) wasn't crash hot, probably as unprofessional as the sales over at Barloworld VW in Mascot. Then comes finance time…this bloke I shit you not sounded confrontational when I questioned the interest rate. Had to escalate all of them, got a call from some sales manager and even he sounded like a south western Sydney person (I know how they talk, I bloody live there myself) as unprofessional as they can be. Escalated this to their so called Customer Experience Manager, an absolute waste of time.

  • We've got an Audi that is coming out of warranty.

I have had the following done to it (all under warranty or mandatory recall)

2x Engine Rebuilds - Excess Oil Consumption
    4x Clutches
    3x DSG gearboxes

Agree with the poster above who mentioned the warranty. We're getting rid of the car as soon as warranty is up.

    • I'm assuming it's a Front Wheel Drive Audi A1 or A3, with a 7 speed dry clutch DSG box?
