    • How does this one compare to the Asus F5SR offered by COTD a day or two back?

      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/15417

They seem almost the same spec.

Any smarties know what the differences are?

And does it include upgrade to Win 7?

    • Only 4 left, and the offer is ending tonight 12am

Looks roughly the same spec with the one from COTD http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/15417

except video card is nVidia GeForce 8200

    • "…except video card is nVidia GeForce 8200"

Hmmmm. Is that good or bad?

      • hmm dunno either .. asking for some expert opinion here :)

According to http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark… the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 (http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-3470.959…) is a better offering than the NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G (http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-8200M-G.11360.0.…).

    I quote:
"The performance of the 8200M G is quite good for a chipset graphic. The driver support of the graphic core is sufficient for games. However, the performance of the chip is hardly sufficient for very modest games with low details."

"The performance of the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 can be suited for modest casual gamers. Demanding games like Crysis run only with very low details and resolution. "

Since the specs are exactly the same apart from the graphics, I'd say the CODT deal was slightly better. Both excellent deals though! +1

    • good find !

wonder why ASUS bother to make 2 identical laptops with different video card …

      • I think that's what every computer manufacturer except Apple did..

  • Too bad this doesn't have a HDMI output or else I would of bought it straight away. Any laptop recommendations with HDMI at this price anyone?

    @ BigKev

"A DVI signal is electrically compatible with an HDMI video signal; no signal conversion is required when an adapter is used, and consequently no loss in video quality occurs."

You could use a DVI to HDMI adapter, this laptop does have a DVI port. "However, the audio and remote-control features of HDMI will not be available unless the output supports HDMI via a DVI plug."

    • Thanks for the info Mervyn. Yeah I want the HDMI so that I can get audio and video to my Full HD plasma using the one cable. :)

  • @ BigKev

    That's alright.

    From wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#Compatibility_with_DVI):
"However, the audio and remote-control features of HDMI will not be available unless the output supports HDMI via a DVI plug (e.g., ATI 3*** and NVIDIA GTX 2** video cards)."

Looks like ATI3*** cards support audio and remote-control features of HDMI via a DVI adapter, i.e. what you're after! :-)

I couldn't find more info about it though and wouldn't bet my life on it. ;-)
