How do these fair against the other handhelds? This is the first time I'm even hearing a zotac one exists

      Hardly any reviews on it.

On my very quick search, apparently the chip is very similar to the Z1 Extreme so expect similar performance.

Top and bottom usb-c ports and AMOLED. If I didn't already have a ROG ally I'd be tempted. Looks to be 512gb also.

    • +1

Chip is a standard AMD 8840U chip so you get regular chipset and GPU driver updates from AMD, I've heard this is a mixed bag for the Z1 extreme. Would be nice if it had more ram since that ram is shared between CPU and GPU.

The ROG Ally only had hall effect triggers, this has hall effect sticks as well so no stick drift. This has the triggers that can swap to mechanical buttons like my gamesir controllers which are nice.

Battery is a bit on the small side, but depending on the games you play and your frame rate target, can be 2-4 hours of battery life, can always use a power bank.

Full size nvme slot is nice, for both cost effective storage and more surface area for heat dissipation (depending on positioning relative to fan).

The rest will be based on how they implement things.

I've been keeping an eye out for the MSI claw 8 to pop up on sale since the performance is better. I kinda wish AMD would let us run the ryzen ai 395 in dual mode like the switch - half CPU cores disabled and maybe reduced shader count and clocks for handheld and then an actively cooled dock for full fledged performance when docked. That would be the best of both worlds for me.

    • This one would be amazing for emulation specifically IMHO. My 6800u/680M laptop can run tear of the Kingdom at 30FPS. Might be worth waiting for an 880M handheld though - really good improvement on that generation.

  • Wow! Great price.

      fixed

This is an insane price for what is probably the best Windows Handheld.

      • +3

        Why’s that?

      • If you're going to say that please expand on why. It has alot of good features and specs so it certainly seems good.

    • +2

That's a pretty big claim. No VRR, small battery and only 16gb ram are some big downsides compared to other handhelds.

At this price, it's great value, but calling it the best Windows handheld goes a bit far IMHO

  • If this only had more RAM I'd use it as my office PC and double as a handheld. Great price for the hardware.

  • +2

Sounds like great hardware (although no VRR and not great battery life) with buggy and poorly designed software: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/zotac-zone/17.html

    • 2.0 of the software just launched!

    • +1

Thanks, was wondering about VRR. Love my Steam Deck but I think that's an essential for when I upgrade.

      • I've got an Ally and on paper they're OK, but nothing amazing. Actually using it though feels great and I put a lot of that down to the VRR display

        • Yeah, for a somewhat lower powered device as a handheld, VRR would make such a difference when you get framerate dips. It's not by any means essential, but I will only upgrade from my Steam Deck when I get a good deal on a VRR device.

hmmm just over from the ETA prime in depth review and this seems like a great device actually, performance similar to Rog Ally X

    • +10

ETA Prime is more of a showcase, not a review. He never says anything negative in his reviews.

  • OOS!

  • +3

    Oos (thank heavens!)

    • Yeah saved me checking reviews to see if worth to buy

  • Dayum OOS

  • Banger of a deal

  • +1

    Pricing error surely?

    • Stand alone unit is $1,399

    • Nope. It was advertised in their newsletter 2 weeks ago with in big letters OVER 40% OFF.
I'm supprised it only sold out when someone posted the deal on ozbargain.
This is closest thing to steam deck 2 OLED atm. Only major catch I see is its smaller screen instead of 7'4 inches from deck

  • No longer in stock

Are u guys just buy these and resell them on marketplace?

  • +1

Ryzen AI handhelds are getting cheaper too, can get one of these on AE for around $1100: https://youtu.be/WrS_OlZZZ5M

    • +1

      Aren’t the hx370 models around 2000 and the 8840u models around 1100?

      • Ah yeah, you're right. Some say $1100 but it's actually a different model after clicking on it. Sneaky bastards. Sorry all!

    • +1

      Can you share the link?

    • I'm looking forward to one that supports FSR 4.

  • +1

    Looks like sega gamegear

  • Sorry to ask, it this going on discount because Zotac handheld 2 is releasing soon?

    • Yep, highly likely in QTR 3

  • Reviews from reddit not super good, lots complaining about the software update, only best thing is the oled 120hz screen

  • Ahh OOS. This one would be amazing for emulation. My 6800u/680M laptop can run TotK at 30FPS. Might be worth waiting for an 880M handheld though - really good improvement on that generation.
