Living an OzBargain Life

Was buying groceries today and thought, would anyone stand up to the challenge of living one year of his life living on things only posted on OzBargain? He will start from absolute minimum. No phones, no credits perhaps? Props if he sustains his living via OzBargain, via Brodening. How much money would he start with? Then roll that money to sustain him for one year? Props if he goes interstate or even overseas using the proceeds from Brodening.

Using coupons, going for freebies, jumping on price errors and getting free groceries from pricing errors, etc. etc.

This could even be a good reality tv! LOL

As a uni student, I may already be living this life.

Had to think twice about sending a 12c SMS today.

You need to stay on campus and use their WiFi to send whatsapp or hangouts messages only.

I earn well over average income, and I always think twice about sending a 10c SMS!

      mate, use this:
      http://www.freesmsmate.com.au/

      send free sms.
what is great is that the recipient will see as if sending from your number
have been using this, no problem

Thanks, I didn't know about that site.
I use Yakedi. It's the same deal but limited to 3 texts per day.
Of course you need an internet connection for these so it's not always an option but still worth bringing up.

        • i use smspup which may be irrelevant as people nowadays use instant messaging apps like whatsapp.

        • ok.
is great to see many options available.

This site offers a limit of 100 text but you can do some surveys etc to earn your free credits
(I haven't really seriously dig into earning the credit before)
But I don't use this frequently also, so still have quite a number of free sms left.

        • @chonghe:

Had a look at freesms mate. It looks like I need to purchase either credits directly or through one of pay for one of their offers. It doesnt seem free.

        • @nahi11:

when you sign up you got 100 free sms
other than that you could get it through surveys etc. (not really tried before)

        • @chonghe:

          Hmm I got 1 :p

        • @bbear: wow sms pup is still around? I was using that in the days of dial up

        • @nahi11: I only got one too, useless site as far as I'm concerned.

      • What mobile plans are you guys with ??

I have unlimited sms with TeleChoice for $15 / mth

        • +1

What's the rest of the plan like tho?

Must have been a long checkout queue!

    • Or, stuck at the bus stop for half and hour.

  • what carrier are you on?

  • this is like the people who live off dumpster diving.

Using coupons, going for freebies, jumping on price errors and getting free groceries from pricing errors

If this is what being an "ozbargainer" is about, then I'm disappointed.

Unless you can survive off eneloops and HP micro-severs, it might be a very hungry year

We are not that poor. I believe most of the ozbargainers earns above the average salary.

Take a look at the citibank thread, signature card, signature card. Signature card.

    • +3

In fact most Ozbargainers are quite well off I think, because they can afford to buy the junk that they don't need, for the sake of filling up their home. E.g. a guy bought an ipad for 200 bucks because it was on clearance, when he already has one.

But then there are also poor chaps like me who rarely spend over 2 dollars at HJ's

    • You kinda need some kind of income to take advantage of the many things posted here (assuming you 'catch them all'!)

I think it's impossible. On a side note, typing this on the Asus Nexus 2012 from Grays, with the iPad cover from HN on my right, the Target Lotus car in front of me which is beside the 160Gb PS3 from Kmart, and the Moto G from TGG just buzzed a message while the other phone with the $10 Telstra SIM from HN is on standby. I love OzBargain!

  • spend on groupon, livingsocial, scoopon deals for almost everything. well, as much if I can

    ALDI4life

  • I already have enough samples to survive, from Vintage calendars to Heavy duty hand gloves, and various Moccona Coffees, $4 meal using Paypal, $1 cheese burger and so on…

  • Meals - easy; just use the various McDonald's or Hungry Jack's hacks.
Travel, you could start with Uber but then would you consider hitchhiking to be a 'bargain'?
You could always live off Coke rewards, and pinch me samples.
