not sure but $401 for a 20 mega-pixel camera phone, why not ;)? it can be used for travelling: camera, walkman, and under water photos/videos ^_^^

      • -5

        not sure

so how do you know it's a bargain ?

        • +4

well, different stores have different prices, for example The Good Guys has it for $597, do you think it's normal or abnormal?

    • -3

      Quite expensive…

  • +10

The Z1 is $419 plus Shipping from Kogan and that's a grey import. Cheaper for AU stock makes this a great price.

** works out $373.40 if pricematch with The Good Guys ;)

    • how does it work? Do you need to buy it first at the high price from TGG then come back and ask for 120% price difference refund?

      • simply show the salesperson the website on your mobile phone, but better ask for stock first, then ask for pricematching, which means they will match with 120% of the price difference, in this case 120% of $178 (587-409)

        • +3

Good luck getting anyone at msy to answer the phone when the person from tgg calls

        • When the DSE Ebay deal was on TGG simply refused to pricematch 'cause the price was too low. I have a feeling they'll do the same with this. They don't advertise a pricematch guarantee, do they?

        • In theory yes but not working because phone is only available online. I went to store at 9am this morning but you cannot buy it in store.

        • +1

@Michael15286: Damn. I should have pushed.

  • Hows their warranty for their self cracking screen nowadays?

    http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/05/30/bbcs-watchdog-investiga…

    • +1

      I stand corrected

    • Does accidental damage insurance cover cracked screen? If so better get one as I think Sony warranty doesn't cover self cracking screen.

  • Did anyone price matched successfully with TGG?

I'd still wait for another eBay group buy deal on an iPhone 5s.

    • +1

      Trololol

    • +1

I can't tell if that's sarcasm or not.

      • Same here , was going to wait for another group buy On iPhone 5s , but this is a very nice deal. And it's local stock as well. Tempting…..

        • The 5S still has crashing bugs that were around from day one. Go ahead!

  • +2

Should be able to get the ZU for about $300 from TGG with their price guarantee. $595-($595-$349)*1.2

$300 is seriously crazy price fur this awesome phablet.

    • Price fur?

      • Xperia Z Ultra

  • I may get a new white one and sell my 3 month old black one in eBay. Probably get my money back.

  • does anyone know how long msy pickup from store takes?
ordered one to be picked up in store…waiting on confirm….

    • Virtually no time if they have stock at that store.

      • yess it said store had stock but will they call me to tell me to pick it up???

        • +1

They will send you an email advising you to pick up in store and that they will hold it for two days.

  • Thanks got the ultra.

  • We've been screwed over twice by The Good Guys on warranty! Strongly suggest avoiding!!..

  • +1

Ultra out of stock already… so fast

    • +1

Looks like it's back in stock again…

  • would hn price match?

    • -3

I believe this is grey stock, so no.

      • No text

      • AFAIK MSY sells Aussie stock. Prove me wrong.

        • I bought mine from MSY. It's local stock.

        • Yes, but good luck with their after-sales service lol

Your patience will be tested by the following:
          1. Seeing whether they pick up the phone or not
          2. Queing up in a long line if, by some act of god, they actually answer their phone
          3. Actually getting to the counter and being told, sorry we don't want to know anything about it

        • +2

          @montorola:
You deal directly with Sony, there's no Need deal with MSY. That's what I did with the Z.

        • @montorola:

Yes, but good luck with their after-sales service lol

In many cases I prefer dealing direct with the manufacturer rather than returning it to point of sale as it would be quicker.

When my Note 3 had a problem, I brought it back to JB who said it'll take up to 3-4 weeks, but usually within 2 weeks.

I brought it to Samsung's service centre and got it back in 4 days. They said if they had replacement stock on hand, they would have swapped it on the spot.

I have had a Z Ultra since they were first released in Hong Kong last year…still a fantastic phone and seriously worth $350. They are large but I have not had a single issue fitting into every pair of pants I own, from shorts to motorcycle pants to skinny jeans to suit pants to suit jacket pockets.

My only criticism of the phone is that the camera is rubbish, but I literally hardly ever use my phone camera anyway so it is a minor one.

Oh, and my Z Ultra would have been one of the first ones made and it has never given even the slightest hint of screen cracking…it is a very robustly made phone in my opinion. People mistreat their phones and then like to blame the manufacturer when things go wrong with them.

    • +3

I also have the Z ultra and had it since around November last year. I have not had any screen cracking and I think the camera is great as long as it's not in low light situations, no flash, be warned.

The screen is good, but get the slightest bit of moisture on it and it will go balistic, the worst I have seen. I am pretty much constantly rubbing my phones screen to get it to be perfectly dry especially in the humid area I am from.

For this price that is crazy it is literally half what I spent on the phone originally and you really can't knock much about it. 9/10 would buy again.

  • Is this necessary or will the battery in the ultra last a full day with moderate Facebook and whatsapping?

Mugen Power 4000mAh Battery Case for Xperia Z Ultra review | Xperia Blog - http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/02/13/mugen-power-4000mah-bat…

  • +1

Purchased The Z Ultra from MSY a few months back and paid $450 and thought that was a bargain. At $350 I'm trying to hold back from buying another for just in case. It is Sony Australia stock as I just checked my box for warranty details and confirmed Australian warranty. Battery lasts me all day and sometimes if I forget to charge even thru to next day and I have my screen brightness set at 86% never had a problem with screen cracking but I have mine in the Incipio dual cover case. Very happy with the Ultra however it is big and makes my previous Galaxy Note2 look small, however once you go to a big FHD screen you never want to go back as it saves you carrying a phone and a tablet. The screen is a good TN FHD not IPS so colours are good but you can get better but I am a photographer so I am super fussy when it comes to colours. Camera is better than some will have you think but its a phone camera so what do you expect. Its a super thin phone so don't sit on it!!!

Would I buy it again… Absolutely and at $350 bargain! bargain!

    • I too am seriously tempted to pick one up as a spare haha.

    • Thanks for the mini review. Perhaps running juice defender will give it just that little bit more life. Will have to try it out and see how we go. Hopefully won't need a massive battery case for an already enormous phone!

  • Anyone put the hard word on TGG yet? They should sell you the Xperia Z Ultra for about $300 according to their advertised policy.

    • I thought the 120% was only after you buy it and the price drops. If you price match they just beat it by a few dollars. Unless you buy it for 595 then go in and try to get the refund that's pretty risk though.

    • No I tried. Actually TGG Is always bull crap about what it's called low price guarrantee. Also jb hifi, I think the only store that take it seriously is officeworks

      • +2

Just a guess, but maybe it's because they operate as a JV partnership (no not that one, the good kind of JV) so the individual store proprietor will be affected by selling products at a loss.

Officeworks on the other hand… Wesfarmers can absorb small losses easily.

        • Australia should has JV-Hifi then lol

      • TGG 30 Day Price Guarantee small prints:

"…Our "30 Day Price Guarantee” does not apply to Boxing Day ‘Knockout’ prices, advertising errors or misprints, cash backs & discounts offered by a supplier or another third party, bonus offers, limited or minimum quantity offers, clearance, and finance offers, and items sold on marketplace websites such as eBay. The terms and conditions of our "30 Day Price Guarantee” are subject to change without notice. Refunds will be paid out in the same payment method as the original transaction. "

READ: It does not apply to "limited or minimum quantity offers" or "clearance". Theoretically, all stocks are limited (there is no unlimited stocks), so they can always reject the claim.

"…If we’ve offered to price beat the competition before you buy, then this voids the 30 Day price guarantee."

READ: You have to buy from TGG first, and they will then reject your claim when you go back to them.

        • Yeah exactly. I was tempted to buy from Good Guys but it seemed way to risky.

        • They aren't above the law. They can't get away with saying MSY had "limited" quantities. I'd go for it if I didn't already have an ultra. Then go to ACCC and QCAT fit satisfaction if they don't play nice.

  • I would have got the Z1, but the screen cracking issues, and sony's appalling attitude towards their customers that have this issue, make this a no-go

  • OH hangon, what's different between Z and Z1??? I though it's the same? (I don't talk about Z and Z ultra)
EDIT: oh I see, 20 mp vs 13 mp, snapdragon 800 vs crapdragon

    • The Z1 is better built than the Z, higher waterproof rating, slightly bigger and much better quality screen too (other than also having the Snapdragon 800 as you say).

  • +2

I have done the hard work for you guys in VIC, MSY Malvern has 2 black left and MSY Cheltenham has 1 white left, not sure about other MSY though. Maybe someone can buy and upload a scan receipt. I am gonna try to pricematch with TGG :)

  • Got mine from msy. They are a brasil world cup edition? From the sticker on the box. Massive unit. Good price for a local unit!

  • Hard to find a case that suits the Z Ultra and doesn't add to the size, I tried a couple and and settled on the Incipio wallet it has a plastic hard shell cradle that is tight fitting and provides some protection but then attaches to the wallet folio which I found still to be minimalistic but protective. I ordered it from amazon.com

    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EW6M2RM/ref=pe_385040_30332190_T…

    • Wtf there's heaps of options. It's one of the thinnest phones to begin with. You can get a minimalist bumper but I went for a flip cover. Don't want to risk cracking the big screen.

  • -6

Z-Ultra was $312 & Z1 was $368 for grey stock at Kogan eBay sale on Sun.

  • +1

As another z ultra owner have to say coming from Samsung note 2 this device rocks. Thinner than iPhone 5s and feels great aluminium and glass in hand not plastic. Also near stock android. Throw nova launcher on and icons by fraom and with snapdragon 800 344ppi or so this things fox. I also got the 18 megapixel qx 10 zoom lens and from Rakuten the sx3 cover. And a microsd card for storage. Great pix other than no flash. Also no screen probs i put tempered glass on a phone straight away. Glass4m dot com $30 for front back protection and best streamlined cover with corner protection i found is incipio feather in black. Awesum. I paid $599 from centrecom for Aussie warranty earlier in year this deal is awesome. Esp when apple come out with 5.5" phablet iphone6 u want a device that is bigger thinner better. At half close to a third the price. Just hope Sony have a z3 ultra planned as I found this combined with sbh52 for phone calls and reads your email and lice FM radio for all the best solution. Hardly use my iPad or nexus7 now.

    • Yeah. I really don't understand the complaints about the camera. I assume it's people just reading the mp specs and judging purely on that. It's not a super camera phone but it's pretty good even in low light. Only downer is lack of flash. It's the thinnest phone I've held in my hands I'm pretty sure. Only other downer is slightly muffled/weak sound due to water proofing.

  • FYI fo4 whoevers interested, The Mugen Xperia z ultra 4000mah battery case - cheapest I've found is via Amazon for $127 shipped.

    • +1

The other week MSY had the Sony battery case for $20 when bought with the phone. I'm waiting fur a clearance sale.

      • Yuh but the msy Sony one is a folio case. I was after more a standard case w/o cover.
