Connoisseur 1 Litre Ice-Cream Varieties $6 at Coles (Save $3.49) Starts 23/7

970

Apologies for not having a photo, but believe it or not, I spotted this special on a tram just now as someone was flicking through a copy of the latest catalogue. I really really wanted to snap a photo of it, but was a little too embarrassed. Seems like a nice deal. Enjoy.

  • Cheers TA - been waiting for a sale on Connoisseur ice cream for awhile!

  • +10

These used to be $8 recently at Coles and Woolies from memory. When did they jack up the price to $9.49? That is ridiculously expensive for 1 litre. But still the ice cream is quite nice.

    • You get what you pay for though :)

      • +5

yes except this stuff is really not that premium or worthy of the price tag, still very airy.

        • +1

Not true - it is amongst the least aerated ice cream on the market.

        • +7

@EmptyPockets: Nope, I beg to differ. Homer Hudson was a much better ice cream, very dense and flavours were better. This tastes like very ordinary stuff to me.

    • +1

It's to make the Coles/Woolies alternatives more appealing. They want to push their products through as much as possible.

  • +9

The Aldi version of these are the best value for money I reckon

    • +5

You must be joking-comparing Aldi version with Connoisseur

      • +5

montorola is comparing value for money, not quality.

        • +3

Just like a montorola phone is better value than a motorola phone but you get what you pay for :P

        • +1

yeh but that dosent apply for food the same way it applies for electronics.

        • @striker5950: for food it can depend on what ingredients that are used.

      • +1

Probably made at the same place, with the home brand products too! Anyone know where these are all made?

    • +2

Cookies and cream is alright, the caramel honeycomb one is too sweet in my opinion :)

  • +6

I had to double take when I saw the regular price of $9.50 for 1L at the local Coles. Not worth it.

    • +5

How can the price of milk go down, and the price of ice cream go up?

Seems to me that someone is trying to play 'brand' games with people, playing simple ice cream as a premium goods with extreme profit margins.

      • +2

Looks like Coles "Down down, prices are down" campaign has ended. Now it's "Up up, we're jacking them up".

  • daww starts in two days. going to coles tonight :(

  • of course it starts on the day i leave the country, damnit. plenty of icecream in america though i'm sure :P

    • much cheaper there too!!

      • +1

A shitload better quality & range wise too!!!

        • +4

          coogee bay shitload?

  • +11

I bought about 10 of these last time they were on sale for $4. No way would I pay $9.50 for them though.

  • +2

They now have a size that is around 450ml that is about $7.90.
Couldn't believe the price for a such a small tub of ice-cream!!

  • +2

I'm too use to the constant $5 specials

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/Connoisseur

    • +4

Agreed. $5 would be my top dollar for a litre of supermarket icecream.

  • I'm out…. The last $5 special was ages ago…I guess I'll try to grab a few to stick up until the next $5 special

  • +2

    I still have rainchecks @$4.50

    • +7

Put em up on eBay and let us bid on it lol

    • +2

      How'd you manage that?

    • don't they expire after 1 month normally ?

  • Recipe to make this ice cream:
    Milk 1-2L
    Sugar to taste
    Cookies

Whip the milk in the stainless bowl ( more air = softer/smoother ice cream )
Then cover n put it into the fridge, take out n whip every 30mins or until a desired consistency. Transfer to a plastic bowl, mix cracked cookies into the container. Put in the freezer section.

i bought a ginger bread flavor one last week just to be adventurous. it was the worst ice cream flavor i ever had!!!

    • I thought it was pretty decent. I made an apple pie and the gingerbread flavour went really well with it.
However, C&C is still the best with Honey/Caramel Macadamia a close second!

    • Yeah, i threw it out, tasted just terrible.

    • +2

      GASP. It's my favourite :(

      Send your tubs to meeeee

  • +4

seen them on sale for as low as $4.50, so $6 seems expensive still.

  • 3 deals on the homepage TA! Amazing!

  • +1

    $6…meh

  • +1

Is it just me, or does the thumbnail look like a monster?

    • +2

I think it might just be you brah :p

    • Cookie Monster?

    • +3

I think you've been playing too much pacman

  • +5

not sure about everyone else but I really don't think that this is a great deal. we used to get this for 4.95 6 months ago however now its up to 6 bucks. Not worth the $$$ IMO.

    • +1

yeah agree. It's a deal but not a great one. $4 would be great for stocking up. Nevertheless, I'll buy one cuz I'm ice cream whore. Goes well with baileys Irish cream

    • 6 bucks is pretty good, seeing as the usual special price on this used to be $7, down from $8.99. Now that it's $9.49, $6 a tub is pretty good IMO. Those old $4.95, or $4.49 special were the old Half Price ones, and hardly ever went on sale - maybe once every 3-4 months, if that.

  • You wouldn't be eating ice cream in melbourne right now…that's for sure

    • +1

Great deal, love the coffee flavour. Except it's way too cold to eat ice cream in Sydney as well. Can't wait for the warm weather to come soon!

    • +1

      wanna bet ?

  • Need the cookies and cream Hmmm irresistible

  • How does this compare to the other ice-cream brands?

I've purchased Bulla Creamy Classics Cookies and Cream for years and it's delicious — I can't fault it. And it's a helluva lot cheaper than this.

    • If you like Cookies and Cream, I probably wouldn't bother spending more and buying Connoisseur for that flavour as I've found most brands do comparable cookies and creams, IMO.

It is worth it (when on special) if you're a fan of their more unique flavours though.. the caramel and macadamia, gingerbread one, and the cafe grande one (whatever it's called lol).

Connoisseur is nice but I don't rate it as premium ice cream - certainly doesn't deserve a $9.50 price tag now. It's too airy/aerated to rate that high.

    • I've purchased Bulla Creamy Classics Cookies and Cream for years and it's delicious — I can't fault it. And it's a helluva lot cheaper than this.

And a hell of a lot less tasty..
It's like they poured a gallon of buttermilk and a few oreo's in their mix.

    • Streets Blue Ribbon, +Woolworths Select, Cookies, compare pretty well IMO w/ Bulla; were I to miss a special on the latter would not bother me at all; really minor differences.

Definitely can't fault any of Aldi's buckets (especially as I'm not a fan chasing <'$9.50 L) - you can find rich creamy flavors Aldi just in a narrower range. Have a bite of some White Choco Rhapsody.

Summer Strawberry Puree +Caramel Honey Macadamia and Nestlé Connoisseurs can get a look in for value (albeit unswayed against a backdrop reduced power costs) as I devour that last bargain from April :P.

Opinions on comparison between Connoisseur to Coles Peanut Butter or Gooey Choc Brownie which is half the size? Thx Op, but stocked up on last IGA special, gave u a + anyway

  • +1

I had a raincheck for 4 tubs at $5. I was going to this one Coles the same time and day each week, and there was always the same guy serving on the self checkouts. He always gave me the raincheck back at the end, what a legend. Repeated this about 4-5 times.
Then one day I arrived and he was just going on his break. I bought it anyway and the other server kept my raincheck :( Kind of a blessing though and I expected it to be kept, I was starting to get fat eating 3 tubs of icecream every week (4 wouldn't fit in my freezer). At $5ea I would buy 3, at full price, none!

  • Sara Lee is $3.

  • Thanks TA, brought a tub of Belgium chocolate! Never going to pay $9.49 though, tell him he's dreaming! He he.

  • Just got myself a free chest freezer, might get a few.
