Not a deal. I pre-ordered it from bookdepository for around 15 AUD few weeks ago and that includes delivery.
Bookdepository's current prices are
For the Transworld edition not available for another 35 days
UK - £14.24 = $28.0780 AUD
US - $14.24 USD = $17.0462 AUDAnd for the DoubleDay edition that is available in 21 days
US - $21USD = $25.1294 AUD
The fact that it can be picked up by people near Lane Cove NSW for $19.95 in
35 days time or delivered for around $25 constitutes a bargain in very real terms.I am big fan of the Bookdepository but Australian retailers should certainly be applauded when
they achieve prices anywhere near let alone better than something like the bookdepository. The one offered in booktopia is the Transworld edition, with ISBN 9780593054277, published on 15th Sept, priced at ~$17 AUD and that includes delivery cost from other country.
The fact that the Australian retailers offer the price of $25.94 with LOCAL delivery does not look like a bargain to me.
Please correct me if I am wrong. The Book Depository only has it for $23.44 USD… Where did you see $14.24 ???
Thats cheap. and it annoys me as I'd already preordered AGES ago from QBD for $35 inc. delivery (Cheapest I could find @ the time) as I wanted local delivery. It's my dad's birthday present, so I'm hoping he gets it on the day or at least the next day.
Also, leiiv, I checked the ISBN from Book Depository and thats £14.24. £14.24 converts to $27.7628 AUD using XE.com conversion which makes Booktopia cheaper. I'd happily have gone Booktopia if I hadn't already ordered it (And they hadn't taken my money already). Good job Booktopia!
Australians are getting bent down and reamed when it comes to book prices. The argument from the Australian publishing industry - that we have to pay extra to support local talent - is admitting that it wants govt enforced extortion.
