Recommend a Trampoline

Hey
After a trampoline for my daughter

Wanting a 12-14ft one with netting and springs on the outside of the netting.

Was looking at the Kmart 14ft one for $229

Posted here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/47696

But I am a bit worried being in QLD that I will be spending extra $$$ on replacement pads and netting which are not cheap themselves.

Anyone else recommend a trampoline that has long lasting netting and pads?

Found some one eBay but I'm a bit worried there too and they want $150ish for shipping which in the end makes it $$$

Anyone able to help?

  • Check out here: http://www.bigairtrampolines.com.au/catalog/
We bought a 10ft trampoline from here last year.

It's more pricy than the ones at Kmart/Tarjay, but they are much better build. (My 6ft tall big/solid husband jumps on the trampoline as much as our kids…lol)

  • I know precisely zero about trampolines, but just a general statement about outdoor stuff, that might indeed apply…

Putting aside the well known 'dire-anywhere-in-qld-that's-anywhere-vaguely-near-the-coast' rust issue, if you pay a premium you are in my experience somewhat more likely to get better U.V. stabilisation in plastic components.
I don't know if that will hold true for available trampolines as regards padding-covers and netting, but maybe something to consider.

Anyway - hope your daughter bounces her way into our Olympic trampoline team one day!

  • Ahh thanks for the nice comment

Yer it's hard to pick one, thought it would be easy but yer it's not hahah

  • Come up with these two tramps
Which one should I go for?

Total price inc delivery = $429

Total price inc delivery = $473

    Thanks

    • Difficult - so not exactly a coin-toss to decide!

As far as attractive design goes, the second one certainly wins. Tempting on that basis.
Still, I'd sure as hell be concerned about just how much hotter that black-coated frame and ladder would get under the Australian sun…

Beyond that, a sense of likely higher component quality and longevity to be gained with the first one. Better after-sales service also seems rather likely.

This is OzBargain, so that nigh on fifty-dollar saving in-play, also, can't be ignored!
(No, seriously. Possible penalty of death, with scotty turning his phaser from 'stun' to…)

    • Yes, the second one certainly looks better.

Looking at the photos, the ebay one seems to have a better safety net. The safety net on our BigAir trampoline is not completely 'seal' on the bottom. Very little kid can crawl under the net and get out (even though the purpose of the safety net isn't suppose to lock the kids in, but that could be a concern for some parents with very little kids?).

Having said that the safety net on our BigAir is perfectly fine for us, very strong…nobody has fallen off the trampoline yet!

Very hard to decide. If only we could have a bounce on both of them first…lol

  • You have a big air tramp?

If yes, how do you find the quality of it and how long have you had it? Any issues with this falling apart etc

    • Yes, we have a big air tramp. We bought it at the beginning of last year. It's only 10ft, as we have a very small backyard. As we live near the beach, rust was our biggest concern. But so far so good, no sign of rusting. No wear and tear.

We are in Melb, and the tramp is positioned in a shady area, not much direct sunlight, so I don't know what Qld hot sun can do to all the plastic parts.

I had a good look at our tramp today, I think the safety net of the BigAir is definitely no as good as the ebay one. Little kids can crawl under the BigAir net easily and fall of the tramp.

Having said that, the net on the BigAir is still very strong, it does its job. Both my daughters (9 & 12 y.o.) love it, they bounce on it almost everyday…so does my husband! Very happy with our purchase.

  • Thanks for ur help

  • I hate Trampolines now

Still haven't got one and have till October 1st to get one.

Cant figure out what one to get, love the Springfree ones but &%$*!!! the price is solo high.

    • I just assumed, and I'm guessing that NancyCat did too, that the PVC-pipe jobbies were out of your price-range (I do remember the Springfree's always being promoted in adverts without any mention of the price…), but if you've got until October, maybe you'll find something on OzBargain to 'broden', you know, for the extra cash…
(Caution: If you do, you may gain some dreaded Opprobrium-on-OzBargain - none less than from the likes of me!)

P.S. Don't get too stressed, or you'll end-up with a proper case of 'Early-onset / Pre-purchase Trampoline Trauma'. Too many have died from from that already, Twisty. TOO MANY!!

  • Springfree are great. We have one and it has lasted a long time and still looks/functions great

    • Seems it lasts awhile but I've seen the plastic covers on the rods that go under the mat fall apart?

  • I have one of those K-mart ones. Great buy, but after 3 years, the safety netting needs replacing.

    Anyone have a suggestion?
If none are available at a reasonable price, I figure maybe DIY might not be hard - but what material? Shade-cloth?

    • BigAir sells nets as well, not sure how their nets would fit with the Kmart tramp.
How about fishing net, or those net people use to protect fruit trees from birds? Shade cloth is stronger, but you can't see through shade cloth!

  • I have 2 trampolines, a rectangle one from Hills brand (won it from a Foxtel comp 12 years ago) and a round one (12footer) bought from Trampolines Australia/Vuly 6 years ago. The quality of the Hills brand is amazing, the padding looks newer than the one from Vuly, which padding had fallen apart from weather plus wear and tear. Both get used same amount of times, and the mats are both still holding up strong. I'm not sure where to get the Hills branded one, but I think Vuly still has its own website. It's a lot cheaper than Springfree, but not as cheap as the Kmart ones. At the moment you get a free tent when you buy a trampoline from them.

    • I'm reading this thread because out Kmart cheapie from ~7 years ago has died. First the Safety Net perished in the sun within 12 months, got a free replacement but that only lasted <2yrs. Then the padding went not long after. Now we've finally lost enough springs that its not safe. The weak point there is the stitching into the main pad, the way the rest of it rotted I assume UV has weakened the thread, and/or water has allowed it to rot (most of the failed ones are on the north side, and are also at the lowest point, so could feasibly be either.

Kids are 12 & 15 and I'm surprised they both want a new tramp. I'd prefer to buy better quality fo it stays safe for longer.
I've got a bias towards deigned/developed and preferably made in Australia, the sun here tends to kill stuff quickly.

The Hills one sounds great. Any idea if they can still be bought ? Or from where ? Anyone ?

      thanks

      • Hi effgee, unfortunately I don't have a clue where to get Hills one, as we won it. My niece is also looking for a trampoline for her 1 yr old, and leaning towards the Vuly one atm, as it's cheaper than the Springfree.

Hope you find the right one for your kids, my kids are also 15 & 12 (girl and boy) and they still love their trampolines, we all use them as they are great for cardio workout for all ages :)
