Searched and the cheapest I could find it for was $69USD delivered from FoxOffer. It worked out to be just over $72AUD on my credit card statement. That was using the PayPal Express service instead of my own bank to do the foreign exchange rate.

It took 12 days (~10 working days) for the package to be delivered to my Canberra address. I ordered on 30/6/2014 and found it in the mailbox on 11/7/2014.

The SJ1000 that I received has Firmware version = 140423V02 and the 140 degree wide angle which creates a strong fisheye effect.

From what I read off the Techmoan website there are versions out there with a 90 degree and 120 degree lens.

I've also listed a $20 720p/30fps waterproof camera I found at Target:

  • I'm kinda keen but this isn't really reassuring:

FoxOffer: While the manufacturer says it can work under water 30 meters, in fact I think they did not test each case in 30 meters water. We not sure if they tested it in lab for the waterproof level, so we can not guarantee the waterproof quality.

The new 3 buttons case is better than the previous 5 buttons case, that's no doubt, if you wish to use it in water that we suggest you check the case in water without camera in it firstly.

The case which came with mine is the 3 button case and its exactly the same as in the photos on the FoxOffer page.

I feel my case is definitely splash proof. The button seals are REALLY tight. Its bordering on annoying to press the buttons down but fortunately the buttons are really fat so its no problem to transfer more finger pressure down. Unfortunately, I am unable to test the 30meter waterproofing.

If underwater video is your thing then I highly recommend you invest the $20-$30 extra for the SJ4000. From the video comparisons on YouTube, the SJ4000 is better in low light conditions whereas the SJ1000 is better in bright sunlight. The SJ4000 is designed to fit all of the GoPro accessories too. Am guessing that the GoPro cases could handle more than 30meters.

      • Excellent suggestion. Just copped one for a Malaysia and Thailand trip.

  • Looks like it comes with a bucket load of accessories too. Nice find.

The only thing to note really is the AC power supply. Looks like you'll need an adapter for it (provided it takes 240V of course). It does have a USB charger and car adapter though, so no real drama.

    • Yes, you are correct. Mine came with the plug that fits Singapore power sockets (just has two round points). The postal tracking said my package was originally shipped from Singapore.

The specs on the back of the power adapter are:
      - Travel Charger (Model = SDL-M28)
      - Input = AC 100-250V 50/60Hz
      - Output = DC 5.0V 1000mA

Instead I used my mobile phone's power adapter along with the included USB cable which worked fine.

The included car adapter looks fine to use too.

    • The instructions that come with this are very good for suggesting useful ways to combine the accessories. The instructions are on a double sided A3 sheet with about 100 numbered steps with colour photos.

Its got all the ones I'm interested in (handlebar mount, double sided tape mount) as well as a chest strap.

  • Wow, price drop since I bought in March this year for $110 from other online shop. Mine came with Australian charger. However , I just used my tablet charger to charge. So far, my only complaint is : occasional grainy picture in some video recording, not sure why or how i got it. Water proof casing buttons are hard to push . Battery only last 2 hours under continues recording, so u must have spare or carry portable battery. But for the price, I'm very happy with quality of pics and video and its built.

    • I haven't had the opportunity to try mine out yet. Perhaps there's a later firmware update that has a fix for your grainy picture problem. My SJ1000 firmware version = "140423V02", so I'm guessing it means released on 23/04/14 for the V02 models.

    • If yours is a genuine SJ1000 and not one of the dud clones then it was definitely worth the money. The biggest concern to buy an SJ1000 now is there are a lot more clones on the market than back in March. Its the poor reputation of the clones and the release of the SJ4000 which has probably helped to lower the price.

$77.50, but already in the country.

    • DX stock is in australia?

      • +1

The one listed by MasterScythe is from the australian warehouse. Always a good thing to check when buying from dx if you need it sooner rather than later

I've got one and it's a beaut for the price. Not as good as GoPro for sure but well worth this price.

  • does this have fisheye video? videos across youtube are mixed, some with fisheye some without. are people cutting it out or is fisheye able to be turned off/removed?
Want to grab one but I dont want fisheye

edit: appears to be answered in your post

I uploaded a test video onto YouTube:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dw5lgFxNxbU&list=UUPuW-ZJcdg…

The SJ1000 has a fixed lens. The menu is very simplistic and doesn't have any compensating feature for removing the fisheye. As far as I'm aware only Digital SLR cameras have such a feature.

All wide angle lenses have fisheye effect. Its why most still cameras (including DSLR) have a narrow field of view, usually under 90 degrees.
