  • Which one is a better phone?

    • +6

both as bad as each other

      but meh… $19 burner phones

      • +1

Phone will fill up very quickly if you want a couple of apps on it. If not then excellent value.

I don't know much about either but going off the specs the HTC has more RAM and that's pretty valuable when you're talking about 512MB vs 256MB.

Also appears that you can put KitKat 4.4.4 on the HTC via Cyanogenmod if you know what you're doing. Don't know about the ZTE. Almost worth considering just to have a separate "smart remote" for a tv/htpc/chromecast.

I have this phone. Worst part is that it has only 90 MB of storage for apps and that fills very quickly.
I installed Kitkat and used Link2SD to use some sd card storage for apps, but then it becomes very slow.I my opinion, best way to use this smartphone is as mobile phone with very little smart features.

  • Cheaper 3G mobile hotspots…

  • The HTC has more RAM. Wonder if there any problems using them as hotspots?

Edit: finally read the specs. OK for hotspots. Sold.

  • Are they both HSDPA 900/2100 Phones? So no good as a Telstra backup phone

    • According to the specs from the description, yes.

  • Double post

  • HTC has more RAM, on the other hand Huawei is 16M colors and HTC is only 256K colors.

In my opinion, HTC will be little faster but Huawei will be good viewing pictures and video or even a website.

  • how do you buy one of this?is it available at their online shopping? or do you have to search every Woolies for stock?

  • Boy those X3 are getting old, frustratingly slow, small screen, & have limited memory for apps. Adding a large capacity card & storing apps there helps. Ok for very basic smartphone - was my first.

Upgraded over a year back from $79 X3 (unlocked free over 2 years ago on Vodafone) to a $25 Huawei Y201. Just upgraded to a $79 Huawei G256. The X3 gets occasional use as hotspot - works well, but lives in the drawer.

None available at my local Woolies yesterday.

That exactly what I've done! (Except missed out on the G526 - had to grab the Y300.)

I believe these were given out to prisoners during WW1 as an extremely inhumane form of torture.

    • Ha Ha Ha

    • Was that torture also touch skin?

      • +1

they are still being used today on Manus Island

  • Has anyone confirmed that these are in stock at other stores? In Vic in particular? The HTC one would make a good spare phone. Slow phone but still a great deal.

  • +1

Would the HTC be fast enough to be kept permanently in a car (without a SIM card) to be used as a GPS device, or to run Torque to connect to a car's ODB to display live data from the car?

  • +1

Is it guaranteed free unlock? I've never had any luck with free unlocks from Vodafone.

    • They are both soft locked devices and as such should be free to unlock.

Edit: Vodafone rep stating free unlock for Huawei X3 on Facebook

Vodafone rep stating free unlock for HTC Explorer on their own Discussion Board

  • no stock anywhere now

Got the Ascend for $10 from post office recently cos I broke my iphone :/

  • Good Deal.
Is the deal published at the Catalogue?
    Any stock in WA?

    • +1

I just picked up an HTC Explorer at Woolworths Cockburn Gateway. They had to find one for me out in the back somewhere. Not sure if there is anymore.

I did call them up before picking one up and they said they didn't have any. But I still went there to try my luck.

Listing price was $30 but it scanned for $19.

  • Speaking to the mother-in-law (who works at Woolies), sounds like a bunch of old phones are being cleared out for $19. Couldn't get specific models from her though.

  • Perfect for creating a mobile wifi hub !!

    • So, can the HTC be used as wifi hotspot? so I can use up my wife's excess data? Edit..oops, yes, in the specs.

Anyone know if it(HTC) takes the old (larger) type sim?

      • +1

        old (larger) type sim?

        Yes

  • Sounds like a good deal.
Could these be used as a wireless webcam ? I'm thinking I could set one up to monitor pets/front door.

  • +2

Will buy it for the branded usb charger

    • +2

      Sad, but true.

  • Really good deal. Come with $30 Prepaid SIM and free to unlock

    • $30 prepaid - Interesting.
Which model? Which Woolies in Brissie?

      • +1
