    …well done deal

      A rare deal indeed

Well done to the OP! I hope he doesn't get beef from too many people for this deal, I've herd the steaks are quite good here, but with 50% it's not like there's a lot of money at steak, if they're not amazing.

    • Well done

      Shivers intensify

  • +2

Not a bad place. Very similar to squires loft. Same owner or something like that.

    • You are right, same people. Works similar to a franchise now.

    Other steak in the area:

    $15 Mon-Thur - La di da ($17.50 Fridays). First house wine/beer for $2.50 extra.
    $15(.50) Tues - Waterside Hotel (350g Porterhouse + sides).
$9 Weekday Lunch - 'Hotel Food(&)Drink' (Steak Sandwich, well it's kind of a steak). First drink for $1-2. Side salad or chips for $1.

    Any other recommendations?

    • +2

I personally rank Rare (and Squiresloft) one of the best steak restaurants around.
I doubt the ones above would come close. rare is worth a try.

Good deals though if you are after a cheap meal.

        station hotel above all else

        • Over priced now

      • Is the dam ribs. They are the best

  • Anyone used the Dimmi's 50% off deals before? Just wondering how do you redeem this? They have a similar for Otto Ristorante in Sydney which I'm considering using. Thanks.

    • Just make sure the special is selected when booking. It will be shown on your confirmation email. I've never had problems. Things work so good with Dimmi that we decided not to get an Entertainment card this year.

    • yes. The venue (Seamstress) got the discount wrong, I showed them the deal on the dimmies site and they fixed it. Minor inconvenience.

  • Why is it there's no time available display for dinner if more than 1 person selected?

    • I think that means all available times have been booked.

Try another date and you should have some luck.

Request for two and then just rock up and say the other party cancelled.

    Steak are you there?

    Steak?!

    STEAAAAAK!

    • +1

      Check under the cardboard box

  • If anyone gets this and has not been before i recommend……

Get the ribs to try for entree and share with the table - seriously these are some of the best ribs around.
Usually i would then go an eye fillet for main.

    ;)

Stay as long as you like! As long as you want to leave at 7:30.

  • +1

We always go to Rare at Little Collins when we are in Melbourne, provided they are open.

    Highly recommend.

    • +1

little collins is great! plus the manager looks like king joffrey!

  • Could only get a Monday - great value :D

  • +1

Shame need to leave by 7:30pm though. Looks like its fully booked, I can't see any tables available for the special

    • I got a lunchtime seating with no issues. What time were you trying to get?

      • Oh was trying the Dinner options.

  • +1

how does this compare to station hotel

  • +1

What are the prices there? Never been.

  • Can anyone who has been to Vlados or Railway Hotel (Port Melb) rate Rare in terms of steak?

    • They are good. Not the best. But decent steaks, at a great price. Vlados is obviously expensive. Railway is similar. But this is much more meat orientated.

    • I like the baste they put on the steak at Rare.
Valdos is more pure meat with not much added. High quality and high price.
Railway probably sits in between Vlados and Rare.

Personally, I think all are great and worth trying for their steaks.

Rare does do the best ribs and worth trying for entree.

  • Been here once. their steaks were one of the best I've had. And the fries!

  • +4

    Pork ribs highly recommended.

For anyone wanting to get QFF points, you can also book through Qantas Restaurants, which is powered by dimmi. Current promotion of 150 points per diner.

    • Too late, booked a few hours ago here. Hadn't tried this one and persuaded a friend we needed a steak and beer catch-up. This restaraunt wasn't too useful for the vegetarian girlfriend!

      • Did you look at the vegetarian options? Or did you just figure it may not be vego friendly?

Last time I went to Rare the Vegetarians loved it. (As long as they don't mind others eating meat)

They do a great vegetable skewer and nice stuffed roasted mushrooms.
Salads, fries and baked potatoes also available.

    • You beat me to it ;)

      Book it via here: http://restaurants.qantas.com.au/restaurant/rare-king-st

  • Premium, yet heavily-discounted.

    Hmmm…

    • +1

Heavily discounted at off peak times and only on quiet days. Seems like a valid way to get some more custom in instead of having empty seats…

      • Unless you're full all the time, it makes sense to me.

The vast majority of CBD restaurants are quiet Mon-Thurs.

I would love to take up this offer, but with 2 infants, going out to a decent restaurant is a rarity these days.

    • +1

They will still make a profit, a smaller one, at least it will pay for some of the overheads.

  • No bookings for 2 left at all for any of the dates available. Dangit!

  • Anyone managed to book?

  • Well I booked around 2:30 this afternoon for a 5:30pm reservation. As someone mentioned earlier on, as long as you go through the Dimmi Website and choose the 50% off deal option, its all good. I've eaten at Rare on Little Collins St like a dozen times before but never got around to this one till now. Service and food was quite good..went ahead and got a bunch of the slightly more expensive options :-D. But its just as the terms and conditions on Dimmi website said, 50% off the FOOD bill only…drinks (of any kind) are excluded. I only had a glass of coke which is like $3.50 and they excluded that :-D which I think is quite funny..but hey, I usually only dine at a joint like this once every few months. I can honestly say I'll definitely be popping in again before the special ends.

  • Is the deal finished? Can't seem to find the 50% off option
