Something odd going on here. Harvey Norman list the PS3 500GB for $348 on their website. However look a little further and you can get a PS3 500GB AND an additional DualShock 3 controller AND a copy of Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception for the exact same price of $348. So why would anyone buy just the PS3 500GB console when you can have about $100 worth of controller and game for the same price? Grab it before they work out they have made a mistake.
Yeah I think so also. Surely it's due for a large drop given the PS4 is coming on 12 months in the market and really isn't priced that much higher.
I just want a sub-$200 PS3 with HDD (not the 12GB model) to replace my 160GB slim that recently started to have bluray lens issues - games rarely load from disc.
I don't need two more controllers and already have Uncharted 3.
Maybe I should have picked up the recent $188 deal at BigW for the 12GB with minecraft - and sold Minecraft given we have a digital copy already. Then picked up my own 120GB drive to pop in. Would still take it over $200…
You might be able to take the drive out of your old PS3 and put it in a 12GB model, might want to look into that.
Thanks - I had actually considered that on the weekend, but then thought the existing PS3 will have to be retired completely (ie. currently still fine for digital copies of games, media box, netflix) and won't be usable in another room.
OR
Could I remove the 12GB drive from a new super slim (assuming it uses a HDD for that memory) and put it in the old machine (given I won't need a big drive in it), and put the old 160GB drive into a new super slim?
If that is a possibility it's a win on both counts - and I get an extra controller in the process.
That's assuming, of course, that BigW still has the minecraft pack at $188 - most of their gaming section seems to have disappeared online anyway!
No wonder last gen sales is falling off a cliff, the price is too much for late adopter.
This is pretty much the same price I paid for my silver 320gb ps3 with extra controller with bf3 and resistance 3, if you sold the extra controller and uc3 you'd still be paying $268 ish which atleast $68 too much for me
I swear a few years ago i paid $249 from Target for a PS3 160GB with a bonus game and HDMI cable. Shows prices haven't really changed much even though the next gen console is out.
I wonder if Sony is weary of lowering the price of the PS3 and cannibalising PS4 sales in the process. After the PS3's slow start last generation and the strong interest in the PS4 currently, maybe Sony would rather the PS3 just faded away at this point. Microsoft has been under $200 for quite some time now and Sony hasn't shown much inclination to follow so far.
Even Sony's more recent budget SKUs weren't overly cheap.

I reckon M$ did itself a tremendous disservice by not having enough stocks of XB1 available prior to Xmas, then straight away foolishly offering a significant $100 incentive to buy a 360 after Boxing Day!
A lot of folks that I know; myself included; are now happy enough with the 360 that they are loathe to even consider an upgrade to XB1 until the arse drops right out of the price! ;)

The 'Slim' model (120GB, 160GB and 320GB) was the best deal. Got my two for $248 and $188 at Big W and Target, respectively during their clearances. Shame you can't find those models in-store anymore, the Super Slim sucks.
Either stump up the extra $100 for a console that in 10 years newer, or go on ebay and pay $200 less
Where can you get a PS4 for $450? Cheapest I've seen them lately is $500 from Dick Smith and I'm never shopping at that place again.
Sorry but that's a terrible price. Buy PS3 12GB for $200 buy a hard drive $50 and then buy all the uncharted games plus a few others for the same price
That's exactly what I did about a year ago when I put an SSD in my laptop too. I signed up for PS+ and got Uncharted 3 too, it was all round fantastic.
I considered the 12GB PS3 but to be honest it didn't work out $ wise once you buy a decent 500GIg HDD and the damn holder. The cheapest I could find was from JB at $220 (showed them the $188 Big W deal and they just laughed at it because it's only a layby with delivery in November) So $220 + $60 for a 7200rpm Seagate 500GB drive + $20 for the HDD holder and you're already at $300 after a lot of stuffing around. For just $48 more I get a factory 500GB PS3 and an extra dual shock 3 controller and Uncharted 3. It may not be the deal to end all deals but it was quick and easy. I've pre ordered the white limited edition PS4 with Destiny as well so September 9th can't come soon enough.
Such a shame the ps4 won't run ps3 game discs. If that was the case I'd jump straight in. Now I'm having to replace my ps3 before even considering their current console.
