  • pffft - I can get a "$25 pen" for free (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/113742) ;-)

but can you get 12 pens for free?

      • Endless supply from the Office Stationery cupboard…

      Not anymore

  • I need some new pens for work, are these good units?

    • +7

No, they're classed as 'DIY use only', no professional writing.

Not true. Ask any Asian kid. These pens (the 0.4 variety) are commonly used for writing, even in exam conditions.

I used these pens for work (not school) at the moment.
All I can say is, if you are really used to using a 0.7 or 1.0 pen, then these pens may take a while to get used to. If you are used to using a 0.5 pen, then these 0.4 pens are basically the same.

I have used these pens before. They are very thin. It's good if you want to write neatly but bad if you want to write fast.

  • +2

I have used these for the past 10+ years. These pens are awesome, especially for people who write really small.
DO NOT BUY THE 0.25 and 0.3 VARIETIES!!!! They are wayyyyyyyy too fine.
    The 0.4 is just right.

They are also known as "Pilot HI-TEC-C" (Exactly the same thing, different name for different markets.)
For some reason, PILOT does not sell these pens in Australia.

Yup, exactly right. I wouldn't suggest the really fine ones for writing in an exam paper. The markers would probably be so annoyed since it's so small. I like to use a 0.5-1.0 for an exam paper.

  • I wonder whether I can get 12-packs refills instead of an entire pen.

    • +1

I wouldn't recommend buying refills for this pen, even though they do sell them.
If you look at the pictures, you can clearly see that when the pen is capped, you can't see the nib.
Basically, there is a piece of rubber in the pen cap which seals the nib, and prevents ink from drying at the tip. Over time, dried up ink accumulates in the piece of rubber, which basically damages the nib of the refills.

Do I get anything for signing up using your referral link?

    • +2

Nah, unfortunately not. Don't feel like you have to. After a certain number of referrals they send you free trinkets, I doubt it'll really affect my quality of life haha

These pens are good for cramming as much as possible on the maths and science cheat sheets that we were allowed to bring into high school and university exams.

For work any roller pen would be good enough

The Pilot G-2 gel ink (0.7) is my all-time favourite office pen for super smooth writing. They're $15.63 for a pack of 4 at Officeworks so I would classify this as a bargain if you're after something ultra-fine. A 12 pack would last me forever!
