Suitable rearward: Birth - 6 months Forward: 6 months - 4 years (Approx)

    • You should always keep you child rearward facing as long as possible. It is way safer than forward facing.

      • But a lot less comfortable for taller babies like mine! Once they have enough neck strength, I think they're fine to travel facing forwards!

        • Interesting read on the kidsafe site.

NB. Rearward facing restraints come in three types:
Type A1 for children up to 70cm tall (approx 6-9 months), Pretty much standard off the shelf stuff avalaible everywhere!
Type A2 for children up to 80cm tall (approx 12 months), Handy if more readily available!
and a new category Type A4, for children up to 2-3 years of age. My boy would go insane having to face the rear of the car at this age!

Also wondering how big a car, or how small the front seat passengers would have to be to have one of these bigger A4 seats sitting behind them!

  • It's a great seat, bought one two years back.

Is this link a review of this model?

    http://www.productreview.com.au/p/safety-1st-sentinel-air-pr…

    also safety review here:
    https://www.childcarseats.com.au/find-and-compare-child-car-…

There is no mention of the words 'air protect' in the add.

    edit:
Judging by the pictures i'd assume so as you can see the air cushions, but there is not enough detail in the description to confirm.

Note: Just got off the phone to the highpoint store. The kind female sales assistant told me it was their 'normal' price and that they are getting more in stock.

  • Way better seats available for that price. Low RF markers.

      care to share?

      • This model:
        RF 4/5
        FF 3/5

whats better at a similar price?

Edit - beaten to it. Links please steglles.

  • There are two sellers listed on ebay that are offering these car seat at $173, deals.aplenty, and $192, deals direct ebay store, delivered. Good luck everyone.

  • I have this seat. It does have the air protect. The problem is getting the baby into the damn thing once they get a bit bigger than a newborn. Had to remove the foam from the middle cushions.

Even with all thenl padding it gets a pretty average side impact score so go figure!

Sorry, brain dead as nearing labour :) for that price you would be better off with the infa secure neon from big w. It has built in blow moulding in the shell. Its RF markers are much higher than the safety first seats which are A1 category (6 months RF) vs neon being A2 (12 months RF). The shorter height means less time FF too as they rarely rarely last heightwise the 0-4 timeframes. There is also many seats around the $200 mark (kompressor which is nicer version of neon woth smaller base, safe and sound cabrini from big w etc etc) but under $200 (from memory $168 at big w, also sold under meteor at toys r us and often on special for around $110) its rather unbeatable in terms of safety and longevity. The infa seats all test well :)

Anywho. Off to sleep in case of labour starting!

    • The infa seats all test well :)

true that they have perhaps the best crep results of any brand but the neon/cosi hasn't been tested yet :)

      https://www.childcarseats.com.au/find-and-compare-child-car-…

      • Seriously, about the only benefit of CREP testing is to tell one what seats they should avoid, until such time as at least the majority of seats have been tested.

Sure, it's encouraging to know that the seat you're putting your child into is safe, but ALL seats in Australia have to meet safety standards. To choose a seat simply because of CREP rating over one that has none just has no merit.

As all of us here would, I hate paying retail prices, so I did some research a little while back and found that a company in Melbourne named Dorel actually manufacture this brand along with several others including Mothers Choice, Saas (for people into modified cars), Maxi-Cosi, etc.
After seeing these seats you'll be very surprised to find out that a lot of them are very much the same thing, but with different material coverings, cushioning, side pockets and of course… branding!
Anyway, I bought one some time ago and wanted another matching one for number 2 child only to find Target asking $300 even though Dorel's site had them listed at $149 RRP. Target did not seem to care, so while still in the store I contacted Dorel and was told about their Baby Value Factory Outlet site! Got it for $149 + their $10 flat rate shipping fee the very next day!
So if this one's not for you, though it is good value at this price, have a look there!
