$120 Cash Back by Open Citibank Starter Package and Deposit $3,000/Month into Citibank Plus

61

Just went to Citibank yesterday to open Citibank Plus account as I have to make several oversea transfers next month. The offer is back again for Starter Package (include both Citibank Plus and Citibank Online Saver).

Benefits:
- Australia's only fee free everyday banking account.
- Free access at over 3,000 Citibank, Westpac, St George, Bank of Melbourne and BankSA ATMs Australia-wide.
- Free international money transfers from Australia to any account anywhere in the world.
- Free bottle of award winning wine every time dine and pay with your Citibank card at Citibank Dining Program partner restaurants.
- For more: http://citibank.com.au/aus/packages/starter_package.htm
(And better rates than CBA & ANZ, checked today)

** To meet the $120 cashback criteria, you will have to deposit a minimum total of $3,000 by the last business day every month for 12 months into your Citibank Plus Account.
That seems too much works and long wait for 120$.
But by setting-up regular payments, I think it is not too hard and time-consuming. In my case, money will be transfer from CBA to Citibank, keep some for online payments; The rest will be transfer to IngDirect for shopping and ATM (If it is not enough for 3000$ deposit, just transfer from ING back to CBA and start new circles).
Setup a bunch of automatic payments to get free oversea money transfers and 120$ cashback is a pretty good deal for me.

As in paying using efpos / saving account?

    • Not able to confirm myself. I will wait for my card and test it (soon, maybe).

    • Been available for ages - free botle of selected wine at limited range of restaurants if pay with your Citibank Visa Plus card.

    $10/month over 12 months :-(

Yep. Seem a small benefit in comparison with Free international money transfers benefit

Not when you compare the exchange rates they use for their "free international transfers".
I used to always use citibank for international transfers because it's easy and fast. Then compared the rates I was getting with citibank to other providers and it was costing me hundreds of dollars for the privilege.

If your doing several and/or large international transfers then check out something like ozforex.com.au. It a little effort to set it up, but one done the transfer process is easy and only takes a couple of days to execute the transfer. Transfers are also free - the make money off the rate they give you (same as citibank do). The rates they offer are much better than citibank/American Express/other banks.
There are alternatives to ozforex, but I've used them for years - they're trustworthy and customer service is excellent.

Just got a confirmation that my Citibank Plus account is open after applying 3 months ago! Called them four times, emailed them once, used the online chat twice - but it was a single Facebook message which sorted then out.

Better to go in branch, I think. I went there and they filled all paperworks for me. I just need to sign and then wait for 7 days to get my card.

  • does it cost money to deposit money at bank@post?

What about existing customers mostly here with a citi cc? Offer still valid?

    • +1

      I afraid not.

Quote from citibank website: "Unfortunately, current Citibank customers already holding a Citibank Plus account and Citibank Online saver are not eligible to apply for this introductory offer".

      • But it mentions the transaction/savings accounts. Doesn't mention if you are a credit card customer only.

        • Ah, my bad. I thought you talk about Citibank customers already have a Citibank Plus debit card.
If you only have their credit card, you 're still eligible, i guess.
But better to confirm with citibank before signing up

Citibank Plus card is great for cheap travel OS - recommended on this week's ABC1 "The Checkout" or elsewhere on Ozbargain.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I use this card for all of my transactions that are in a foreign currency, and also for overseas ATM cash withdrawals. I compare the rates that it gives, and they are FANTASTIC!! Fee free at CitiBank overseas ATM's, but I don't know about other ATM's.

  • That means we need to wait for one year to get $120 cash back.
HSBC got the same deal few years ago with minimum $2000 deposit but received $10 the next month until $120 cash back reach. This way is much quicker rather than waiting one year time.
If down the track one the 12 months we forgot to deposit $3000. Does it mean we are not qualified for this $120 offer???

Yep. Miss one month and 120$ gone. Better to set-up automatic payment.

  • so you have to deposit $3000 a month for 12 months thats $36,000 to get $120

Hi Paul. I am pretty sure that you can move the one lump sum of $3k in and out. Which is still a hassle to earn $120, unless you want the card anyway. I would certainly recommend this card though for ATM use overseas. For you, Citibank seem to have a solid presence in the Philippines. (Cetainly a solid call centre where they speak the language :o] )
Eg ATM & Branch, Ayala Life-FGU Center Mindanao Avenue corner Biliran Road Cebu Business Park, Cebu City Branch Citibank Cebu.
Citibank seems to be a truly International bank, and certainly knock out HSBC. HSBC tell me that Citibank is their main competitor in their market segment.

  • There was a similar campaign last year.

I have done everything specified in T/Cs for 12 months, but I receive no payment.
I have contacted Citi via the internet banking. A week has passed and I've got no answer!
