Amazon seem to be shipping these again to Australia direct (at a much cheaper rate than other US mail forwarders)

These only run at 30Hz at 4K but many people have used these successfully as computer monitors for programming etc.

Oh man I hope this is still around in a couple of weeks. Anyone know if you'd have any issues plugging Wii U/PS4 consoles into them?

    • +4

Well neither console runs at 4K so it would be pretty useless- but it would probably upscale 720 or 1080 ok.

  • Bah, wish they were shipping the 39" here. Good find though!

    • Yeah, odd how the 50" ships to Australia but non of the others sizes do. The 39" would work out to approx. $625.35 USD shipped.

  • +7

are you sure that TV support international voltage?

    • yeah It supports 240v, you'll need a US to Au adapter though

  • wow thats cheap for a 50" one.

  • Probably that's the lowest I have for this TV, quite a deal. Surely these come with an international warranty, right?

    • Amazon cover them for the first 30days, at the very least.

  • Are these TVs any good? Anybody have any experience using these? Will it work fine with an XBox console?

    • +1

The console doesn't run at 4K- so it would be pretty useless.

  • +3

I mean nice price but this review turns me off enough to not wanting to buy it anymore.

Probably should have mentioned that it won't work as a TV in Australia, it would be a monitor only.

I can't find any mention of the input voltages, it may or may not work on our power out of the box. The other concern would be warranty (or lack thereof), it's going to cost more than the purchase price to freight it back.

      Just use a set-top box.

    • +3

They're 110-240, just need an adaptor or bending the pins if you're into that.

Recommend not using an elcheapo adaptor..

    • Sure you could use it as a TV. I mean for use with a game console, HD TV set top box or any thing that uses HDMI.

50" Computer programming monitor! That's crazy!

    • +1

I'm using a sony 55" lcd tv as my monitor. It's brilliant!
I would not go back to a smaller screen. :)

      • We have a pc connected to a 42'', its not that great, I would rather use my 1440p

        each to their own though

      • You must be sitting fairly far back. Gaming would be awesome.

    • +2

50" full HD — not that good as a computer monitor.

50" 4k — that's 88dpi which is not bad when you need to be able to multiple windows opened at the same time.

      • 50" 4K is obviously about the same as 4 x fullHD 24" monitors arranged as a multi-monitor setup. So if you are currently using a 1080p 24" monitor …

Not sure that's want to be playing games or doing photoediting work on one - but it's a cheap way of getting a lot of screen real estate for having lots of docs open at once.

Personally I'm waiting a few years for the 4K scene to mature somewhat (a new connector is needed) but I'm betting that when my current dual-monitor setup dies, it will be replaced with something like this. The price seems to be converging on price of a fullHD screen of the same size at a rate of knots.

        eg LG 4K 55" TV = $2500
        .& LG HD 55" TV = $1700

I have owned the 39" version for about 6 months and use it daily as a computer monitor. You just have to get a US travel adapter as it works on 240V. Once setup correctly the image quality is amazing for the price. The 4k@30hz is not a problem for desktop work but the mouse lag is noticeable and definitely a negative but I put up with it for the massive resolution. For gaming I change to 1080p@120Hz which works flawlessly. I will upgrade to the Seiki Pro 40" when released later this year which will support 4k@60Hz. Do not buy this to use as a TV! Once you have a 4k monitor you can never go back.

I have a 40" TCL 4K/UHD 3D TV $749 from this deal and I am loving it as a computer monitor. I found the the mouse lag un-bearable/usable but you do not have to put up with it if the the TV has some Game/Graphics mode. It eliminates mouse lag. Presumably turns off motion smoothing and such to achieve that. Plenty of reviews online about it.

  • According to Hardforum these guys are releasing a HDMI 2.0 version next year. I'd wait for those, personally.

    • TCL is releasing a hdmi 2.0 version this year. better off waiting for the TCl one instead

      • +1

Yeah but neither of those is now and who knows what else will be around by the time they are ;)

  • If I understand correctly- we shouldn't buy this to use as a TV? Or just not as a TV at maximum (4K) resolution?

    • It's too small for the 4k benefit to be useful as a tv. Unless you're sitting right in front of it.

    • I'm really not sure why people are asking this - there is no or very little 4K TV content at the moment, there isn't a point to making this purchase if you plan to use it as a TV IMO.

    • Get a 4k media player then wait for some 4k content and watch that. It would be perfect for showing photos that you already have, as most still cameras take pics far beyond 4k resolution anyway

  • +2

I'd wait until the refresh rate for 4K TVs improves to 50/60 Hz before buying any 4K TVs.

  • Seiki. Enough said there. A great find based on the price - but goodluck on a ramdon brand for those who choose to buy this, will be interesting to see see reviews in the next 12-24 months. There's still sweet-FA 3D content out there to buy for 3D capable TVs and 4K is so new that there's next to no content out there. 4K can wait for the PS5 and XB2 for me…

    • +1

      The xbox 360 supports 4k ? :P (technically Xbox 2)

    • Agreed. Kinda pointless to buy a 50" with 4k when you will have nothing to watch on it.
Better off to walk into JB and just grab one locally…

I have been using the Seiki SE39UY04 39-Inch version for the last 6 months and it's been awesome as a computer monitor. There's so much more screen real estate to use compared to a 1080p monitor.

  • -1

I have the 39inch version and it's a great little computer monitor.

The 4k@30hz thing is an issue for all 4k TV's. There's no HDMI 2.0 video cards on the market for a PC to output 4k@60hz on them, and there's nothing else available that does so either.

Only way for a better resolution today is over DP. I didn't realise this until after buying a 55inch 4k Samsung TV with HDMI 2.0 and still having no way to get 4k@60hz. I had always thought it was my 39inch display limiting me, but my video card had the same limit anyway.

  • im worried 50: is a bit too big for a monitor!!!!!!

    • It is… Some people can deal with it- but it would be horrible.

      • +3

50 isnt big enough, 75inch would be barely be enough

        • +2

          That's the spirit :p

        • that's what she said?

    • Next you'll be saying 5" is enough.

    • It's not about the size, it's how you use it ;)

  • but im also worried the 30" is way too small for 4k!!! my dell 30" is just bearable so i dono, perhaps i sit it back a bit and make do! but the 39" is so so much cheaper ans hsipping was 115$ before so thats like $450 usd or under $500 so i wait see if they ship it too,… hmmmmm

    • You're completely forgetting about colour…

      • what about it?

        • -1

          I forget

  • I may stand corrected but isnt US TV's running NTSC whereas we run PAL and dont they use 120W and we use 240W?

    • NTSC and PAL is not a problem if you are using it for gaming or as computer monitor. I think you meant 120V and 240V- changing V to W makes a lot of difference.

  • 40 inches would be the right size IMO. My dell 30 is 2560x1600 and the ppi is about 100. A 40 inch at 4k is about 110.

    A 24inch monitor at 1920x1080 is also about 100ppi.

    • yeah but the dell and this one are diff ration… youd need to compare a dell at 2560x1440 to this

      • Give or take 5%

    • It is. I have one. No image/font scaling necessary at about 70-80cm from my eyeballs. I have good eye sight. And, I reckon those 28" ones will be too dense/small for text without scaling.

  • I have to warn anyone going to purchase this - 30hz is horrible. Even for normal every day use I think it is completely unacceptable.
I have got the 39" model and I absolutely hate the 30hz. If I had actually used one of these before purchasing it, I would have never gone for it.

    • 30 hz is indeed horrible. i ended up buying a DP videocard for my AOC 4k monitor so i could get 60hz

    • Did you try game mode or its equivalent as per this comment? I had a similar problem with my different brand 40" 4K TV but the mouse lag disappears with the correct setting. Still not good for gaming but fine for browsing, etc.

Cheap enough but you get what you pay for, probably more reliable than a Samsung.

  • I had one of these that I bought in July of last year. I found it was pretty much unusable for general computing and I ended up hooking my PC up to an iMac monitor and using that. It was next to impossible to click on things as the mouse seemed to struggle with it.
I have since grabbed a 28 Inch 4K Monitor and the difference is night and day.
I have wall mounted the Seiki though and am awaiting my Nuvola NP-1 4K Media Player to arrive to actually use it as a 4K TV. (Currently used for my 2 year old to watch Youtube Videos via a Chromecast)

    • +1

ill buy it of ya if you dont want it ;-)

    • Did you try game mode or its equivalent as per this comment? I had a similar problem with my different brand 40" 4K TV but the mouse lag disappears with the correct setting. Still not good for gaming but fine for browsing, etc.

  • 4K on a computer monitor is fantastic - no question (despite 88dpi as mentioned above). In regards to physical size however - don't you guys think a 50" screen on your desk a tad overkill?

  • I have the 39" as a monitor and very happy with it. I think this is the 1st time the 50" has been available to be shipped to Australia.

  • Looks like the price went up to $614.89 plus postage.
