Mens haircut prices in comparison to female haircut prices

Before everyone get's upset and tells me that the reason for the price difference is because of hair length…I get that.

What I wanted to know was what happens if you already have short hair? For example, I'm female, I have really short hair. So it grows back quickly, and I need to get it cut often. I don't have much money so even going to Just Cuts at $29 is expensive. In my area, there are some places that advertise $8 haircuts for students/seniors/children. $10 for everyone else.

That seemed reasonable. All I was getting was my sides on my hair trimmed and a bit off the top. So I sit down, and the dude cuts my hair. It took about 15 minutes. At the end he demands $18. I said that the sign outside says $8 for students and I show him my valid student card. He said that its $15-$18 for females, even if they are students. I told him that my hair was incredibly short, and he used the same techniques he would use for a mans short hair.

In the end I left $15 and walked out.

This has happened to me twice in two different places. Do you agree on a price with your hairdresser beforehand? Even if it's just at one of these local in-and-out barber type places?

Go to your local TAFE college and be the guinea pig for the hairdresser course students

    Dirt cheap

    • ^ This. Or you could go to a school of hairdressing. There is one here in Brisbane which is pretty cheap so there may be one where you live

I've had both the best AND worst haircuts & shaves of my life at TAFE colleges…think of it more as an adventure! ;)

  • I don't ask the hairdresser the price before I get my hair cut but that's only because I know my hairdresser really well and she knows me and she works from her home. However if I was going to a salon where they didn't know me from a bar of soap I would check how much it would cost me before I got the hair cut. It sounds like you got ripped which sucks

I cut my own hair. Best decision ever.

  • see why you girls should marry only bald headed guys? all that money saved on haircuts and shampoos.

    • Plus you can oil up that bad boy Costanza style.

  • Unless you completely shave your head, you shouldn't try cut your own hair. It's impossibly awkward, why do you think no hairdressers do it?

I don't get people who pay for a wash, wash it yourself before you go. I pay $14 for no 2 back and sides, cut on top. I could cut it myself cos I don't mind rough look, but nobody is skilful enough to blend the cut and the shave on themselves… and you end up looking like a mushroom.

If the blend isn't straight and uniform it is obviously a home job and you will be laughed at in the street.

Buzz cut all round is easy but if you got hair on top of your head you may as well show it off, shaved all over makes you look old or rough I reckon. Same as a chrome dome.

Someone will give you a men's cut for a men's price, ring around.

Agree on a price before you get a haircut.

Also, ive never seen good value from JCs. Just an overpriced franchise imo

Yep big rip off and poor, rushed haircuts, rude staff… never go to hairdresser inside shopping centre!
