  • Will it work here in Oz, as the voltages are different?

$699 refurbished with 90 day warranty.

Edit: I love my w1070, my buddy also purchased one of the refurbs above and it looks totally brand new.

    • This projector can project up to 235" in 16:9 ?

      • You mean can it zoom to fit a CinemaScope screen? No.

Would this 3 months' warranty be illegal considering the legally-mandated 1 year warranty of electronics sale in this country?

        Not for a refurbished item

  • Did they ever get the 3D functionality sorted with this model? A couple of friends have this model and they said getting the 3D going properly was a pain in the ass. But having witnessed this projector in action it's still an awesome buy even with the with the 3D issues.

    • I've never had any issues playing 3d movies/games on mine with ps3 and pc

    • I have never heard of the W1070 or the short throw version the W1080ST, having a problem with 3D. Provided you get the correct glasses. They need to be DLink and have a frequency of 144Hz NOT 120 Hz and they cannot be IR versions as used by many other types of projectors and TVs.

With the correct glasses and the right player, i.e. a 3d bluray one, it works out of the box amazingly.

Some people have had problems if their system (i.e AV receiver/amplifier) is NOT HDMI 1.4, as 1.3 does not support 3D.
Also some have reported problems using a PS3 to play 3D but there is a workaround.

Can I suggest you look at AVS Forums. There is a specific thread for the projector and the appropriate glasses.

I have had the W1070 since Fed 2013 and totally love it. I used an Officeworks price match -5% deal and got it for under $900. Well worth it. Amazing with a 120" screen. We don't go to a commercial cinema anymore.

      • Interesting! Cheers will pass the info on.

    • Watch a lot of 3Ds, haven't had any issue(can't remember the firmware version, i updated once). Your friends may have bought the wrong 3D glasses.

    • A firmware update is avaliable which fixes this on earlier revision below 1.5 or 1.6 (3d modes) mine has 1.7 and no problems with 3d. Also need 144mhz 3d glasses some are only 120mhz can cause 3d issues as well.

      • Mine is still on firmware 1.3 (the original version) and no problems with 3D from bluray. Later versions of the firmware allowed a greater range of 3D formats to be played correctly.

  • Anyone knows what is the warranty like buying from Amazon? Local supported International warranty or have to send overseas etc for a repair?

    • See the previous listing but …. return to Amazon I am afraid! US warranty 1 year, AU warranty 2 years according to Benq website.

    Great projector. Highly recommend it.

  • great projector. good price. i got mine from officeworks price match about a year ago for $890

  • general question from a newbie with projectors
If I want to use in my lounge room with tv bluray etc do I need a screen
(I have exposed brick not flat white wall)
And projector should be ceiling mounted yes?

    • Doesn't have to be ceiling mounted but easier because it's out of the way then. Brick wall will look really bad without a screen but you can get motorized projector screens for around $100 last time I checked, I got one a while ago and it works great still

    • You either need a very very flat white or light coloured wall, i.e. not brick. This projector is very bright and the picture crisp. Therefore to do the picture quality due service you need a good surface. I have a 120" ceiling mounted motorised screen and this works well. You can get them around the $100 mark brand new and delivered. Well worth the investment particularly if you want to watch during the day (great for sports) or want to watch 3D. When projecting 3D you do get a decrease in the light levels, hence a good white screen gets the best results.

You do not have to have he projector ceiling mounted. I have an old audiovisual cabinet, remember those ones that were about 900 x 450 x 1200 high, black with a glass front door? I got it on ebay for $1. I have the projector on top and this gives a perfect viewing height onto the centre of the drop down screen in a standard 2400 (8 ft) ceiling. Remember with this projector that the centre of the projector's lense is NOT the centre of the projected image. Therefore the 1200 support height projects to the bottom of the screen.

You can also mount the projector on top of a coffee table but you will get distortion and need to use the projector's trapezoid correction but it will not be perfect.

  • I have a 120" ceiling mounted motorised screen and this works well. You can get them around the $100 mark brand new and delivered

$100, are you able to provide a link for that?

    Cheers

    • ebay

      • Thanks, looks like the price when up to $145.99 for 120"

        http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_odkw=200%22+ceiling+mount…

        • Well obviously I have not been looking for a screen for some time, I already have one, but prices certainly have gone up, apologies for the price inaccuracy. Even at that price the viewing experience is well worth it.

I got my Optiwerx 120" for $50 pick up myself, it had a minor ding on the back corner which cannot be seen when ceiling mounted. Great screen, no buckling.
