I was just about to post this deal. I can thoroughly recommend the Air-Fi Runaway Bluetooth headphones. I've bought 3 of them so far for family members but am now looking at the Matrix2's for myself.

    • +3

Funny, I was waiting for it to not be so early. Always catch myself wanting to post at 4 am Australia time.

Glad you like the Runaway headphones!

  • +1

    Thanks!

  • OK it is coming up with shipping of 18:95 for me on the Matrix headphones 1 set. According to your blurb above it should be no more than $11 "6 dollars after code plus 5 dollars extra for the larger ones"

    • +1

Sorry, I should have made that more clear - only the larger headphones have an extra shipping cost on top of the $6, but the cost varies by model. It's based on weight.

  • +2

    Hi rep,

Which in ear earpones with mic do you recommend has the best quality sound?

    • +3

That would be either the M-Duo or A151P depending on the type of sound you want.

The M-Duo delivers deep, robust bass while still maintaining pretty good clarity courtesy of a separate 9mm subwoofer and 5mm tweeter/midrange driver in each earpiece. If you like powerful bass and listen to music genres like Pop, Hip-Hop, EDM, and so forth the M-Duo is a better option, and I personally consider it the “safe” choice overall for most listeners.

The A151P has better audio fidelity in the strictest sense. Its balanced armature drivers deliver a very accurate/flat sound, which make vocals and instruments more easily heard than bass and treble. Many audiophiles and musicians prefer this sort of “flat” sound, as it adds nothing to the original recording. It is well-suited for classical and other well-mastered music with lots of different instruments. However, balanced/flat sound is really something you have to try for yourself to see if you like it.

      • Thanks for the quick reply rep.

I'm trying to place an order just now but wondering which shipping method is best for me?

I'm going on holiday on 18/07 which means I need this to arrive in less than 2 weeks.

Will it arrive on time with USPS International First Class?

The other shipping methods seems so expensive!

        • If you really need it by the 18th I wouldn't risk standard shipping. 2 weeks is a little on the low side of average for shipping to Australia, and considering our post offices are shut down tomorrow for the holiday (so your package won't go out until Monday), it would be quite a gamble.

        • @mikemeelec:

          Thanks Rep!

Just placed my order for the M-duo with Fedex international Priority shipping.

Bought the m9p from previous deal, highly recommend this product!

        • +1

Thanks for your order! It will probably arrive towards the end of next week.

    • +1

For what it's worth, I got the M-Duos from the last deal and i love the sound. They also feel like they're built pretty well too (metal construction, reinforced cables etc). The only thing i wish they had was volume controls on the remote, but i can live without that.

  • Any reviews of the Sport-Fi X6 Headphones? They look freaking weird.

  • +1

    Thanks OP.

Ordered 3 headsets. One dou and 2x m9p

  • +1

Disregarding how evil amazon is, and this is ozbargain, for the matrix2, it's currently cheaper
    to get it from there.

    USD$80 + postage vs $$84 + postage

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DOP3NPW/ref=ox_sc_sfl_ti…

    • It's a blanket 30% discount so unfortunately it doesn't result in the lowest price on every product. I've outlined the ones that I think are a good deal in the OP.

  • Hi Rep,

What is good for motorcycle riders under the helmet?

    Sport-Fi M6? (no Mic)
Sport-Fi S6P (has Mic) Like the shorter lead + extension but hate the armband

M6P does not have the shorter lead.

    • I guess it depends on whether you really need the mic. Inline microphones are typically not very useful in windy/noisy conditions.

If you don't need the mic, there's an old version of the S6P, the S6, which had no mic but still had a short cable. Officially it's discontinued but I'm sure we still have some of the earphones (with no armband) - just shoot me an PM if you want one of those.

      • +1

I have placed my order for pair pf M6 and M6P plus spare buds.

        Cheers

  • darn black and white m9p are out of stock

    • +1

Just verified inventory and we do have a couple of white ones left. I added them on the site. The black is actually out - sorry.

  • Hi Mike,
Do you have any active noise cancelling headphones?

    • +2

      Not anymore :(

Although, to be honest, I've always preferred to use sealed in-ear earphones with foam eartips on planes and such. Better noise isolation compared to active noise-canceling headphones with none of the hiss or need for batteries.

  • Hi Rep,

I am looking for a pair of earphones with mic for android phones. Could you please recommend a few for me to take a pick?

    Thanks

    • Actually, all of our wired and wireless models are Android-compatible (at least for the popular modern Android phones such as Nexus 5, Galaxy S2/S3/S4/S5, LG G2, HTC One, and so on - more info here).

In terms of prices with this promotion, I think the best deals are the entry-level wired ones - RX12P and M3P, for example, as well as the Air-Fi Runaway. However, if you want the best sound that would either be the A151P/M-Duo in-ears (see my comment comparing them ~10 or so comments up), or the Matrix2 wireless headphones.

      • thank you the prompt reply.

will have a look at them.

  • Which wireless earphone has best deep bass quality? And maybe with mic too?

    • All of our wireless models have microphones built in, so you can use them as headsets.

If you want bass, the AF52 Venture is the one to get. It's got the most powerful bass by far (excessive for some people, but that's why we have the AF32 Runaway and AF62 Matrix2 as well).

  • Hi Rep,

Can you tell us a bit more about MEElectroics? I haven't heard of this brand but have seen it on OzB quite a few times. I'm keen to give it a try.

Also, which product would you recommend for 30 minute jogging in the morning? Both indoor and outdoor.

    Thanks

    • +1

Hi tyng, do a quick search on head-fi website you will find they are a very popular budget headphone choice. I can personally recommend them too, great service and quality.

    • +2

We're a small brand, based in California, USA. We started out making mp3 players about 10 years ago but, with quite a bit of feedback and encouragement from the Head-Fi.org community, became committed to earphones and headphones full-time in 2009.

We say that our goal is to deliver Musical Enjoyment to Everyone (MEE), but what we mean is that we try to make sure that all of our products have the best possible performance at their respective price points.

We also place a lot of emphasis on our customer service, and word of mouth has been our main marketing avenue for the past five years. Feedback from our customers is how we have maintained our growth and of course our ability to deliver solid products without exorbitant prices.

For jogging you want something from our Sport-Fi series. Really depends on your ideal spend and the features you need, but if you want to keep it basic, the M6 model is our most popular by far.

  • Hi Rep,

I bought a pair of the Matrix 1 headphones last year and they are amazing, I can highly recommend MEElectonics. The only thing that annoys me is the mini USB charging connector. I was going to buy the new Matrix 2 but they also have a mini USB charging connector which put me off. Any idea if the Matrix 3 will have a micro USB charging connector? I would buy one in an instant if so.

    Thanks.

    • Yes the next version is confirmed to have micro-USB, but I'm not sure of the release timeline. This fall, most likely.

      • Thank you, I will definitely be picking up a pair of those.

  • +2

Bought the M9P in sexy red.

  • I hope the HT-21 second generation fixes the issues with tangling cable.
I used mine on my computer but after awhile the cable became tangled to the point that wires were exposed and the headphones cut in and out.
    Otherwise, the HT-21 were great!

    • As far as I know the only improvements are internal - the sound has been re-balanced with deeper bass, warmer tone, and smoother upper midrange/treble. Cable is the same, but honestly I've never heard of one tangle permanently. You might be better off with wireless headphones ;)

  • Hi Rep,

Can you charge the Runaway AF32 using an iPhone USB charger that puts out 5V/1A?

    Thanks.

    • +1

Although I'm not the Rep, I can confirm that those headphones will charge from any standard 5v USB port, including an iPhone charger. I regularly charge them from my laptop & an iPhone charger.

      • Thanks. A standard port puts out 500mA/900mA for USB 2/3 so I just wanted to check it wouldn't void warranty to charge it using 1A charger. I want to be able to charge the headphones when I'm on holidays without a laptop. I also have a USB charger that works in the car which I think also provides 1A but I'll need to check on that.

        • +1

Yes, anything up to and including 1A is fine. The iPhone A/C cube works great.

  • Has anyone had any experience with the Sport-Fi X6's, pretty tempted

  • Hi Rep (or anyone with knowledge on this),

The specs for the AF32 states,

A2DP compatible Bluetooth connection of the Runaway is compatible with just about any Bluetooth device, including:
Windows computers (dependent on the Bluetooth device drivers).

I guess this means they 'may not' work? Is it possible to install the correct drivers to get them working. How can i check before purchase?

    Cheers.

    • +1

As far as I know there has only been two cases where the stereo A2DP connection simply refused to work on a computer with Windows 7 or 8 (there have been more cases with Windows XP and older Windows). 99% of the time all that's needed with Windows 7/8 and modern hardware is to install the latest driver package (or the "full" driver package as oftentimes PCs ship with a "light" Bluetooth driver). Manufacturers almost always have a full/updated version of the BT driver on their website (you can check this before buying Bluetooth headphones). There is also a generic driver for Broadcom Bluetooth adapters that works pretty well: http://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth/update.php .

Absolute worst case scenario is you'll have to buy a compatible dongle and use its software (we recommend one with a CSR chipset).

  • Hey Mike.

Just curious, what's your favorite IEM and headphone? I mean, I always see posts of headphones and such but always been curious about what is preferred by those who actually make and sell them.

What does your current setup consist of?

    • +1

We have a number of high-end (and not so high-end) headphones in the office for reference purposes but most of the time I'm listening to samples, prototypes, or our recent releases.

My home setup is pretty modest - an HD600 from Sennheiser with a Audinst MX-1 DAC. I also have three MEElectronics ones - the Matrix2, the Atlas (my favorite until the Matrix2 was released), and the AF32 Runaway (my favorite until the Atlas was released). Honestly, I actually use the Matrix2 quite a lot over the HD600 because the audio quality gap is not night and day and the wireless is convenient even with my PC (I use a ~$15 aptX Bluetooth dongle). Very proud that after all these years we're finally carrying a headphone with this level of performance.

In terms of IEMs I always use MEElectronics ones (the discontinued A161P balanced armature model as well as the Sport-Fi M6) with one exception - I have a set of Etymotic Research IEMs for flights. The noise isolation blows away noise-canceling headphones. Typically I just use earphones straight from my Android phone or Sansa clip, no amp.

M9P 2nd gen have some really good reviews! couldn't resist! was hoping for gunmetal but pearl white looks pretty good.
    Thanks

    • I had a set of these too… they were really nice, comfortable and sounded great, but both pairs i bought broke after a few months (and one pair came with a DOA remote, but MEE quickly sent a replacement). It was a bit of a bummer cos i really liked them.

Even after that, i still bought some MEE M-Duos hoping they might be a bit more durable (these are my current pair, and they're great so far). For comparison, my earphones only ever last me about 12 months at best cos i use them so often - I sent back my last pair of Sennheiser's twice for replacement in the 2 year warranty period.

    • My M9Ps don't really have clarity :|

  • Hi Rep,

I'm thinking of getting a bluetooth head/ear-phone for jogging and gym sessions. Which would you recommend? Thanks.

    • If you sweat at all during your workouts, go for a sweat-resistant one. Plus, the pads on the on-ear/over-ear headphones tend to get grimy and smelly if you use them at the gym a lot.

In our current lineup the sweat-resistant wireless one is the new Sport-Fi X6: http://www.meelec.com/Sport_Fi_X6_Bluetooth_Wireless_Sports_…

    • I've tried a few headphones for jogging and they all failed in sticking in the ear for the duration.

Interested in getting the X6 but reading some of the reviews on Amazon put me off.

      • Keep in mind that the Amazon reviews are mixed together for all three models - M6, M6P, and X6. It says right above each review which specific model that customer purchased.

  • +1

    Hi Rep,

Tried ordering a M6p from your site and Amazon.com,even with the promo code Amazon works out to be cheaper.Any comments?,and thanks again for bringing these deals for Oz bargainers.

    • It's a blanket 30% discount so unfortunately it doesn't result in the lowest price on every product. I've outlined the ones that I think are a good deal in the OP.

  • What's the isolation like on the AF32? Open back so I assume not very isolated.

Also cannot decide between M3P and M9P for jogging

    • The AF32 is not really open-back (the driver is in a closed chamber) but the earpads rest on the ear and they don't really "seal", so isolation is indeed average.

If you don't mind having the wire routed over your ears, definitely go for the M3P. For me the M9P tends to slip out after I start sweating.

  • I purchased a pair of these through the Black Friday mystery deal back in December. I ended up receiving the EDM Universe in ear. The included shirt clip was pretty flimsy and broke off in the first week. The sound was great, nice bass. The in-line mic worked well and the controls worked on my HTC windows phone. But just recently the right hand ear piece ceased working completely. Therefore I got about 6 months use out of them, they cost me about $27AU delivered at the time. I suppose that's ok, I was using them most days during that time.

    • +1

Just FYI, these is a 1-year warranty on them. If you still have them you can just get a new pair (shirt clip and all) for free.

      • Thanks for the fast reply, but unfortunately Aussie Post will charge me more than they're worth to send them back!

        • +9

We don't usually ask that of our international customers. Just shoot an email to warranty(at)meelec(dot)com - you might be pleasantly surprised at how easy the process is.

        • Do the M9P 2nd gen also have 12 months warranty? Cos mine are kaput and i only bought them in Feb.

        • +2

That's correct, all models except for a few of the really inexpensive ones have a 1-year warranty.

  • +1

Bought one of the Air Runaways. Been looking for headphones prefer wireless for a while. Got tired of ear bud cords breaking at the connection

    +1 for the bargain
And +1 for the involved rep

Edit. Fat thumbed the neg button again. Damned phone. Revoked it but won't let me give you kudos now =(

    • +1

I'm still not 100% on how OzBargain works, but I think this post is doing well enough. Thanks for the sentiment!

  • Been looking for wireless sports headphones - ordered sport-fi X6 :)

  • still cheaper on amazon

  • +3

    Don't need, but +1 for quality rep'n.

  • +1 these are great!

I got some M9Ps a while back, unfortunately the paint wasn't good quality and has mostly cracked and peeled off exposing them to the elements. But the audio quality is great!!! :) Also extremely good value.

  • +1

You list universal volume control on some headphones. How is this possible when Android and Apple devices have different earth wiring?

    • Analog volume control - variable resistors operated by a slider.

  • Can get an extra discount? Its my birthday today haha

    Wait… i already have 5 pairs i havent used yet…

    • Who can resist more (quality) headphones?

  • So tempted by the X6 - would you know how the sound compares to my current headset ? (LG Electronics Tone+ HBS-730 - http://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-HBS-730-Bluetooth-Heads…)

Also, which is your best blue tooth headset? I like the wright up for M-Duo but these appear to only come in wired option?

    Thanks Mike !

    • +1

Unless they've improved sound of the Tone+ significantly over the original Tone, the X6 is more dynamic and has better presence at the extremes of the frequency range. The Tone we tested has some pretty significant roll-off and sounded a little flat/dull. With the help of some DSP, the X6 maintains sound quality pretty much identical to the wired earphones it's based on.

Our best Bluetooth unit in terms of sound quality, however, is the Matrix2. As our flagship headphone, it has the most balanced and accurate sound of the entire lineup, with clarity to match. It can also be used in wired mode for fidelity-critical applications. Plus, it's the only one that supports the better-quality Bluetooth audio codecs (aptX and AAC) for less lossy audio with devices that can utilize them.

The M-Duo is only available as a wired set. It would be amazing to have the first wireless dual-driver, though. Maybe next year…

      • Is there a significant improvement in sound quality with Matrix2 over X6?

        • +1

Yep. Both in individual things like clarity and smoothness, and in overall fidelity. At this point it's easier to get good sound out of a Bluetooth headphone. With a Bluetooth in-ear there's lots of limiting factors.

  • Could any of the Matrix2 AF62 owners help me here:

Could I ask if Matrix2 has crisp and clear microphone (calling) quality?
Also does Matrix2 still have that lady voice which talks over to say the call is connected?

    Many thanks.
