Belong, Telstra's low cost internet offering, offers 1 month free on new connections. ADSL/Home line bundles start at $70/month and ADSL over existing home line starts at $50/month. Both include 70GB of data/month and also come with increased data loyalty bonus. And, there is no contract, so you can cancel anytime. There is an upfront cost for the modem, but that's yours to keep.

Not as of about 3 months ago when I asked.
can we port numbers on Optus over to this Belong Internet+Homephone deal?
The Optus PSTN number was originally ported from Telstra over a decade again, and is part of an Optus Fusion deal (since out of contract).
we want to move back to a Telstra-related service, and wondering if porting is available as part of this Belong arrangement.
Exetel is much cheaper and includes more data.
Been with them for years and my only issue has been with Optus rather than Exetel themselves.
If only this was available a few months ago.. I'm already stuck with Telstra's for 24 mths..
I feel you. I am counting down the days of my telstra contract! only a few more months!!! :D
whats the speed, had anyone tried it yet here ?
Hate these deals when I live within 25km of Melbourne CBD and can't get any type of ADSL…Yay for 3g (not). But agree with jv, Exetel is the better offer.
My parents are with exetel and happy with them.
I'm with mynetfone and quite happy with their service and speeds. Sign up for 12 months and get cheap connection fee. Naked ADSL so sign up with them for one of their whirlpool VOIP plans and start to reap the savings - I use their free plan since I don't make many calls but wanted a DID, and use clickncall.com.au for 20c untimed international calls to quite a few countries.
MNF for $60 a month gives 250GB/250GB peak/offpeak downloads or $50 for 100/100 which seems to be enough for my 3 person household. offpeak is pretty generous at midnight till 10am.
Final note with MNF is once you finish your contract if you resign they give you a $10 monthly discount on your plan for the next 12 months. Finally an ISP that rewards loyalty!
The only good thing with Belong Boradband is the lack of contract, so for renters might be appealing, otherwise a 12 month contract will likely provide significant savings.
There are cheaper options out there
Why is Telstra offering this under another name/brand?
Probably so their existing customers can't ask to "change plans" to this plan.
I believe it's called "market segmentation" in marketing speak. Sell the exact same product, under two different names, at two different prices. Don't let the people buying the more expensive version know that the cheaper version exists.
It is a budget service offering - similar to how QANTAS also operates under the Jetstar brand.
where is the quality difference with broadband?
Lots of places.
- whether your data slows down during peak times
- how fast they fix problems when they occur (some just say "live with it")
- how fast they answer the phone when you call them
- some ISPs may give you bonuses. Internode just recently doubled their customer's data allowances, at no extra cost to the customer.
Just signed up to exetel for $60 a month for unlimited broadband inc phone line rental.
Reception from this brand seems good. +1 for Gerd posting it
Thanks OP, looking to move to Exetel now- I would never have known about Exetel from jv's post without you starting this!
The beauty of Belong is that it is owned by Telstra. This means that it not only uses Telstra's DSLAMs like other wholesale customers, but it is likely to have the same contention ratio and backhaul allocation that Telstra has.
Other retailers either purchase off Telstra and have constrained backhaul, which artificially congests their own customers, or they install their own DSLAMs and under-provision their own backhaul. This means Belong is likely to give better speeds and reliability than cheaper alternatives like TPG (own DSLAMs) or Dodo (Telstra wholesale customer).
The problem with belong is that by the time you pay for a Telstra telephone (a quirk of Telstra retail and wholesale - can be explained another time), which is a requirement, it works out at $70 per month, which is not that cheap. You can get a similar/better download quota with TPG for closer to $50.
Happy to answer any questions, as I used to work in the Telco sector.
Actually doesnt use all Telstra DSLAMs… I'm stuck on one forever and cannot get Belong. Probably as well, have Exetel instead, with good data and good connection
similar to other ISPs
not really a bargain
not locking into a contract is the only benefit that I can seeedit - Amote summed it up nicely
can you get the ADSL over existing in contact service only line for $50/month too?
Unless things have changed, I suspect Belong is only available in limited areas.
I cannot get Belong in my town, but I can get Telstra, Exetel, Internode (all via Telstra DSLAMs), etc.
Same as my brother, who is in another town.I got my new connection last month and got a very good deal from them.
FREE New Connection Line($299 fee waived)
No Lock-In Contract
$1 modemSince connected to them, There is no difference between peak and off peak hours, whereas in my previous connections(Ace and MyNetFone), the internet connection is really crap during peak hours due to congestion.
Now, I can download up to 1.5MBps.
Any tips on how you got this deal? Or was it because it was EOFY, and they were keen to sign people up?
only 70gb? how is this a bargain?
The code 'JULY80C' seems to stack with this, so you get another $80 off the upfront cost.
Does Belong Broadband offer's Telstra cable internet too?
