Yes that is my experience too. More than happy to have a backup pair from Zenni.
Totally agree!
Agreed, I get my sunglasses from Zenni, my day to day designer glasses (currently Prada) which are mostly or partially covered by my health fund are either from visiondirect.com.au or from eBay (with a local optometrist fitting the lenses). Not a fan of the multifocals, but the single vision ones are great (as long as you pick the right frames, as pointed out).
If Zenni Optical put out a commercial on national TV, OPSM/Specsaver/ParisMiki will go bankrupt. Their prices are 10 times cheaper. Few years ago, I started buying from them and saved thousands.
Zenni Optical are the best source for online eyewear. You can get a good set of single prescription glasses for around $50 delivered. Progressive glasses are about $15 more. Given that most optometrists want $200-300 per pair, Zenni are an absolute bargain.
The downsides - you get what you pay for with some frames not being particularly robust. Make sure you read the reviews when you choose the frames - Zenni allow lots of negative reviews. You will still need an optometrist to provide a prescription and provide general eye care - so I buy one set of glasses from my optometrist and spare sets from Zenni.
