  • Wow, that's nuts! Amazing price

  • +3

Kmart has upped their game lately with video game-related deals.

  • wow will check my local stores for this deal

  • +7

Could you post your receipt please?

  • +1

Why would you get a 3DS XL when you can get a PSP same price?!

Just kidding, awesome deal. Hopefully it'll appear in other stores.

    • Why did you get negged for this?

Also why get a PSP when you can emulate it? Google PPSSPP.

Thanks for the deal OP, ill check my local K-Mart soon.

    • Ewwww….. Street.

Maybe if it were leftover 3000 or Go stock…

    • +3

It's the latest gen in 3DS

      • +2

you do know they make a 2DS and a 3DS for diffferent markets right?

        2DS has 1 "generation"
then there is the 3DS and the 3DS XL, that is two "generations"

        • +7

You do know the 2DS is just a 3DS without the 3D. The games are exactly the same.

        • +4

Go ahead and fold your 2DS in half, I'll wait :)

        • haha, yes it doesn't fold either

        • and the XL has an Xtra Large screen.

  • +1

They don't show any games stuff on the website so I wonder if they are getting out of games completely…

  • bought one a couple months ago from Big W for double that. Great deal.

  • Mirrabooka WA still has them at $249 :/

For those who bought it, could you tell me what is the built in firmware it came with?

For those in SA, called the Rundle Mall, Firle Plaza, Kurralta Park stores. All no stock.

    • Rundle Mall dont sell games

      • I found that very bizarre when I first moved. They are in the city but don't sell games. Why is that?

        • They're a smaller store than most other Kmarts. It'd be half the size of any of the others, definitely so when compared to TTP, Marion or Kurralta.

        • Markup on games is small and the cost is greater when they don't move and are then marked down, so that space is better used on greater markup items I guess.

        • "markup on games is small", serious?

        • Take into account the overall life of a game in store including depreciation if it doesn't move in the first two weeks.
There is very little money in new games for the retailer while staying competitive. Money on games are made from the used games market which is why it is such a large part of EB and JB hifi's sales.

Now that the current price of new release games have generally lowered from the RRP (of which some retailers still try to sell at) to a reasonable level, there is only a marginal mark-up.
Compare that to a pair of shoes or a dress that they would probably pay $2-$4 for in bulk and sell for $20-$40, it's easy to see why a store with a smaller footprint would opt not to have a department with items that depreciate so quickly and require 'specialist' staff.

        • Please explain how does the COST of a disc and plastic case depreciate so quickly that the retailers cannot bare with it?
RRP is lower than years ago before the rise of App Store but certain or most customers in Aus would still but physical copies off the shelves due to the Internet data still not as fast and cheap as in other IT more developed countries. This however should affect more the game developers instead of the retailers.

        • A new release will hold its value while it's a new release, but are you going to buy a game a month after release from Kmart at $69/$79/$89 that can be had for $20 cheaper at the game retailer/department store next door because they've lowered their price?
If prices didn't drop consistently (and go clearance sales) as the game gets older, then we'd still see console-release titles gathering dust on shelves because no one would pay full price for them. Prices paid for each unit by the retailer is higher at release date than later in its life cycle, so if that shipment isn't sold then it runs closer and closer to being a loss the longer it sit on shelves.

I'm not saying that retailers 'can't bear it', but with the margins getting shorter and shorter as retailers lower their prices to compete for the business of gamers then it's easier to see why their choosing to not take on the risk.

The same goes for most items in the audio visual sections, CDs, DVDs, blurays.

Since when is a publisher going to take a hit (they take the biggest cut of the pie) and in most ways they protect and/or own the developer.

        • You sure the retailers sell DVD, CD and games like they sell forks and spoons? You sure they buy the physical copies off the game developers and resell for a profit? I honest don't know exactly how their arrangement is but sounds too old school compared with how Apple sells the apps/games online. I would imagine the game developers get certain % and retailers get certain % for every game sold (of course the console platform like Sony PS, MS XBox will get a cut, which explains why PC platform games are slightly cheaper). The only difference is the retailers need to pay rent and staff but Apple only maintains it App Store which why physical copies are more expensive than digital download copies.

Any experts here are feel free to comment if I'm wrong.

        • The actual cost of the physical copy is almost too little to even mention. That's why they've been mass produced for so long. A piece of plastic, a sheet of paper, and a disc, all can be created without leaving single digits. But still, 8-15 bucks can still add up to an insane amount of money if you're moving millions of units.

As with every industry, there's markup at every stage, and everyone gets a percentage. The retailer marks up to get its money's worth, the developer marks up to be able to get more profit after the publisher takes their share (or, in digital versions, the retailer's % goes to steam/origin). The majority of the console's money comes from console sales themselves, and some from the devs when they buy a developer's license and dev kit initially.

If the retailer didn't mark up, no sane business would sell new games; it'd only be preowned as they get 100% of the proceeds from pre-owned games because the devs and publisher don't have to know about it.

That's what spawned the Xbone's god-awful decision to introduce DRM (luckily they did a backtrack on that one); so that everyone can enjoy larger profits as more people will buy their game rather than a preowned one. It is actually a benefit to the industry to go DRM, but it's a strain on customers, especially if you're not certain you're going to like the game.

So, now you know why Call of Duty gets released every year; to appease the multiple companies marking up and all of the percentage eating layers between the dev and the market. Huzzah for capitalism!

Confirmed Rowville & Burwood VIC (Blue & Silver only), Boronia (Silver & Black).

    • @ $99??

      • Yeah. I was asking for Wii Us and asked about this as well.

        • Damnit, just my luck to not be around the area when a sale like this happens.

    • Also Keysborough confirmed (apparently only 2 in stock left) - Silver & Black.

    • I was at the Rowville store within 15 minutes of this post and they were all gone… the person behind the counter was acting a bit strange, making me think that they had bought all the remaining stock… I can't confirm this, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Congrats to all those who got one!

      • did you call the store before going there? there was still one left when i was there 1:15pm

        • I didn't end up calling (although kinda thinking I should have) but I was in the store at around that time (within 5 minutes) where they still had a box on the shelf with the $249 price tag. When I was finally served, they said there were none in stock.

        • were you wearing a grey top?

        • +2

Did you stink of sex and guilt?

        • not sure what do you think?

        • more a navy blue jumper… and I can confirm no sex or guilt smells…

        • Condolences.

  • Just called my local in NSW. Still $249 :(

  • This is an unreal deal!

I think that KMart are pulling out of Nintendo stock altogether.
In saying that, there are more and more 3DS/2DS "limited" paint schemes available, these look like original stock.

  • Yeah called Ingle Farm S.A still $249.00

    • +1

Again that was the time OZB was not so famous

You're talking about one of the most infamous deals posted here, we know the sale you were talking about, people still make jokes about DS staff…

      • +3

That's how I discovered OzB, from the news story about that sale. DSE poor performance at that sale made me the torch hoarding, eneloop carrying addict I am today.

    • Not so famous?

      You are kidding yourself

      • It's true that OzBargain has become more popular. It's usually a positive in that more deals are posted, and more people are commenting. It also has a disadvantage as we're seeing more and more people like Broden in the community.

    • You sure it wasn't just a DSi XL for $40? Because that's what I got from the DSE sale.

      That was this sale: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/67540

        • How do I do that my good sir?

        • pm me please :)

        • Not too sure how to do that, sent you a message on Google Hangout.

EDIT: Figured it out but it says you do not accept new conversations. Could you PM me instead?

      • +1

$150 for him (ozbargain mates rate)

    • At first I thought is Sydney Parramatta :p

  • CONFIRMED in WA….. but theres limited stock!

  • I guess its not a nation wide promo.

  • Confirmed at K-Mart Eastlands (Hobart) I have one put on hold for me because I am stuck at work, but the guy was just about to put signs out for it and confirmed that they had 4x Silver in stock.

  • If anyone is on their way to pick one up, can you get eithee a blue or silvee one and post it to me? I'll reimburse you for the total cost and throw in another 10 for your effort.

  • +1

Called Marion SA out of stock on 3ds xl and PSP's but they had the 2DS for $148, don't know if this is cheap and of use to anyone.

    • 2DS for $148 is standard price.

  • What a ripper of a deal. Good luck to those who have the time to spend on sourcing one. One would think with all these Wii U and 3DS deals that KMart are getting out of the big 'N'!

  • wow amazing price!, too bad most of the games are $60+ :/
