Sure it's a little bit cheaper but to buy a 8 year old console vs a ps4……..

Just because a new console is out does not make the previous generation obsolete. The PS3 has many great exclusive titles (a few of which have sequels coming on PS4). The only way to experience the whole story would be by owning a PS3.

Sony are however working on something called Playstation Now which will allow you to stream older games to a PS4 but that has it's own drawbacks.

Sorry for the long-winded reply but comments like this just irk me.

I think your comment would justified if this doesn't cost $300. I wouldn't jump in at that price if I never had a ps3.

I'm pretty sure I could put together a Pentium D and Geforce 8800 GT for less than $300… including a few games off Steam.

Can you play AC4 or TLOU with that?

      • Okay, so AC4 has a minimum requirement of Core 2 Quad and Geforce GTX 260. I can still put that together for less than $300.

        • The PS3 is brand new though. Can you do a brand new Core 2 Quad and GTX 260 system for less than $300? Don't forget it's got a 500GB HDD so you have to get an equivalent hard drive too of course.

Otherwise your budget should really be restricted to the price of a second hand PS3 if you're going to use second hand prices/parts for your hypothetical build.

(I'm only taking the mickey out of you here, don't mind me).

  • Sony sucks their customer service is equivalent to that of talking to a brick wall.

  • Ok price for someone interested in those games making the ps3 500gb around 200$ .. But yeah ps4 has been below 450$ and probably may reach 400$ soon ..

  • Reminds me of someone tried to sell a used PS3 500gb for $300 in a garage sale.

  • If they drop the PS3 (with decent internal HDD - not the 4GB!) down to approx $200 with an A-grade recent game (GTA V)I'd grab a spare for home as I've got a big library of good titles I would still like to get through before considering a PS4. :)

    • Xbox has 4gb not PS3

      • My bad - it's the 12GB isn't it for the PS3 basic model.

The PS3 exclusives are worth playing and I'm a PC gamer.

That being said I picked up a second hand console for <100 bucks and wouldn't spend 300.

  • For $200 i might consider it considering i don't have a blueray player. As for PVR functionality, I hardly watch tv and the things i watch i would never want to record, and my smart tv does that already i believe to USB stuck.
