Which charities do you trust?

Given the recent OzBargain EoFY Charity Donation, thought i'd post this up. What are people's thoughts?

I think it's harder to find a trustworthy charity that makes a difference. There seem to be many that have muliple clauses, wrongfully suck up a lot of contributions or not give much to their causes to begin with.

Which charities do you trust, recommend and support yourself?

I have just had my first deal post removed by the mods because it was a charity type post. Oops! Here it is:

Received this email today from Kiva. I am sure it is targeted but I think if you join the organisation, you may be sent the same email in the next couple of days (ie. before the end of the financial year).

"You've already taken a big step by joining the Kiva community–but Kiva is even more fun when you lend your own money. And if you make a loan in the next 3 days, we'll give you an extra $25 bonus to lend on July 1!"

Furthermore, if you refer friends and your referrals are successful, you will be given $25 per referral to loan.

That's not all, folks, some borrowers have sponsor organisations that will match your lending dollar for dollar stretching your loan further.

I hope I can piggy back on your forum post and I do trust Kiva.

    none

  • Lort Smith animal hospital.

  • I am a regular Kiva user and I support the Cat Haven here in WA (donate money/food, have an annual membership and car licence plate, foster cats for them). They are the two that regularly get my support.

  • Yes: World Vision
    Maybe: Doctors without borders
    Possibly: Red cross

  • I'm with Plan.org.

Been with them for about 10 years. I remember when I first started sponsoring that I had bit of a look around and they seemed to have the best ratio of funds that actually reach/are used directly for aid.

    Shows a quick breakdown. http://www.plan.org.au/About-Us/Accountability/Financial-Acc…

Also I think they're religion neutral, so don't force anything. Also they help the families and community of the child you sponsor.
