Free Money! $25 Bonus from The Charity Organisation Kiva if You Make a Loan in The Next 3 Days

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Received this email today from Kiva. I am sure it is targeted but I think if you join the organisation, you may be sent the same email in the next couple of days (ie. before the end of the financial year).

"You've already taken a big step by joining the Kiva community–but Kiva is even more fun when you lend your own money. And if you make a loan in the next 3 days, we'll give you an extra $25 bonus to lend on July 1!"

Furthermore, if you refer friends and your referrals are successful, you will be given $25 per referral to loan.

That's not all, folks, some borrowers have sponsor organisations that will match your lending dollar for dollar stretching your loan further.

  • I don't understand what they're offering, or why. It seems to make no sense.

    • The non profit organisation Kiva aims to match lenders to small scale borrowers who have no means or ability to borrow sums from banks. These loans (typically $1000+) are used to finance small businesses in the borrowers' communities. Over time, the money is repaid and the lender can then re-loan the money to others. I guess they are running incentives to grow their supporter base and increase participation.

Kiva users make micro loans to lenders in developing countries. The loans can range from a few hundred to thousands. The loans that Kiva users make are in $25 chunks. This promotion is for users to make a $25 loan with someone elses funds, the $25 is then repaid to the person who originally funded it via this promotion, not the Kiva user making the loan.

So you get to make a $25 loan without using your own money, but the money doesn't get repaid to you when the borrower makes their repayments.

I've made 24 loans on Kiva. Thanks for the reminder, as I have some $ sitting in repayments that I can re-loan.
