  • Still showing as not sent. Not impressed with Dick Smith. Already they cancelled my order for 2 SE-MJ711's through their web shop. At least I can leave negative feedback this time if they cancel.

  • Didn't i tell you's all that Dick Smith was over selling on this. And oh look they didn't have enough stock for all the orders they're backordering with no ETA. And they'll probably cancel the orders when they find out they can't get more stock.

What's new, they did it with the SEMJ711 model completely over sold and then cancelled heaps of orders because couldn't get more stock so could see this happening a mile away.

  • Will Dick advise he's pulling out of this deal with a message through the eBay message system? I ordered one on the $10 deal and then found myself pulled back in when Dick's pal sliced off 20% on the cbigtreat Promo.

I see what you did there.

  • I emailed DS and got a response.

""Apologies for the delaying in responding to your message.

Unfortunately we have no new stock of this item.

If you like, you can pick another item from our site for the same value or we can issue you a refund.

Please let us know what you would like us to do.

    Cheers,

    • dicksmithonline""

    Time for a refund.

    • Don't forget to leave feedback on their eBay store.

    • You emailed them through Ebay or DSE website?

  • Received the two later bought (discounted) pair late last week. The ones I paid full price I have not heard anything about. Requested and approved for refund via eBay msg.

  • +1

I just got this email about not being able to fulfill the order cos of no stock.

    BUT

    """
We will however be able to replace your order with the Blue Philips CitiScape Shibuya Headphones SHL5205BL
    """

The reviews I saw looked decent (better than the Pioneer) so I'll be accepting the replacement.

  • Thank you for your order of the White Pioneer Street Move Dynamic Headphones SEMJ511W
(A 5094). Unfortunately due to stock constraints we are unable to supply your order.

We will however be able to replace your order with the Blue Philips CitiScape Shibuya Headphones SHL5205BL (C 3501).

    ====

I think I will take the Philips?

  • Same here, just got the email, Philips looks good for the collection

My replacement are the Philips CitiScape Shibuya Headphones SHL5205WT (C 3502). White

  • Yeah same here, Philips seems to have better reviews but the colour is terrible. Will just add them to the pile.

  • Nice I got the Shibuya headphones as well but mine is a bright blue colour -_-

  • I also received the same email and they're sending me the ugly blue headphone this Friday. Looks like the specification is better than the Pioneer one. I've accepted their replacement.

Blue Philips CitiScape Shibuya Headphones SHL5205BL (C 3501).
All replacement orders will be despatched on Friday 11th July 2014.

    • Same email to me and same colour.

  • Stupid Dick has done the same with me - seeing as this is the 3rd cancellation they can stick em.

  • +1

Guys , this Shibuya headphone has got a MIC input as well, which can be used for phone calls. The old pioneer was just a plain headphone. The color sucks but at least moneywise is a better deal.

    • yes, but this one looks to be for mobiles and will have single plug headphone.

  • +5

    Getting technical…

The email states: "Should you require further details, please refer to clause 4 of our Terms and Conditions; agreed to at the time your order was placed."

However, the T&Cs link on the item’s eBay page returns: “Terms of Sale - Content Coming Soon”

So no Dick, I don’t believe any of us who purchased the item on eBay actually agreed to the T&Cs you have referenced.

    • do not forget give them negative on ebay :), I did.

  • +1

Looks like better headphones, but blue ukh lol. I'll take it regardless

  • We don't need reply to accept the Philips headphones as replacement right? Got the same email as you guys which blue clolur doesn't bother me as it is not me wearing them. Good luck to whoever I pick as its secret Santa this Xmas.

  • I just received. this via email.

    "Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your order of the White Pioneer Headphones SE-MJ711 (C 5591). Unfortunately due to stock >constraints we are unable to supply your order.

That's 2 consecutive deals I've had cancelled by DSE after being one of the first to order. At least I get something this time though :/

    • I got that email too. I searched for them, and they look pretty crap.

      • But worth more than what we paid. That's all that matters on Ozbargain :)

        • The original pair was also worth more than we paid for them. I would rather have that pair.

  • +1

Must be the threat of negs on eBay to get them todo the sub instead of cancel.

    • It's interesting though… there seems to have been a few different offers made throughout the day before they settled on this.

I finally got a response from them today after emailing 5 days ago telling me I can wait for the pioneer headphones or take a refund. I ask for a refund then this offer is made. A little disingenuous if you ask me.

    • Do you think they'll be able to acquire 2000+ of them though?

  • I also received the email, but with white colour which I'll be accepting without doubt.

  • Got the same replacement email as well. Happy to take the Philips.

  • I'll have the refund. The Philips ear cups don't swivel which is what I needed. Poop on you DSE!

  • I got two emails: the first said they are substituting with a white Philips, the second email says they are substituting with a blue Philips. Did any of you get that?

    • +1

Maybe they're going to give you 2 pairs?

      • +1

I just had another look, and noticed the emails were to replace different models: the SE-MJ711 I had ordered through their web shop, and the SEMJ511W I ordered through eBay. I only ordered the second one because my first order got cancelled. Now I'll end up with two white Philips ones and a blue one. Oh well… Letting it go because I'm so bemused by the whole thing.

Compare this to buying from a Hong Kong or China-based eBay powerseller, where you receive an "item shipped" notification within two hours of purchase. These people know how to run a business and understand the value of return business. Maybe eBay should outsource their online business to them.

  • +1

I ordered within the first hour of this deal being posted. I was within the first 100 sold.

    My order was canceled.

Meanwhile other people who ordered late on Sunday night when it was already 2500+ sold got theirs.

To be fair DSE did offer an alternative set of headphones from Philips, worth roughly the same value, but I don't want it. I looked them up. They are fugly, and don't look very noise isolating. There is no pit. The earmuffs are flat. It doesn't look like it will fit well, or block out noise. I'm going to ask for my money back.

    • At least you got a choice, and can leave feedback. My previous web order from their normal site simply got cancelled. Because they can.

      • +2

I would rather they send the Pioneer. And I would rather they shipped them out in the order they were purchased, and not the reverse order.

Will be leaving them some negative feedback.

  • Same issue as everyone above, not impressed. Responded asking for refund via ebay messaging so there is a record of it. Neg feedback to be left.

  • I sent an email a few days ago via ebay saying to cancel when it was clear they would not be delivered by the date they stated and no notification had been sent to say they had even been posted.
I have not had a reply as yet, apart from the one saying they will send a different item that "wasn't as described".

  • Honestly guys the Phillips looks much better quality and build, albeit being blue. Wished I got the Phillips instead of these shitty Pioneer crap. Good replacement I'd say, the Pioneer ear cups do swivel but they are very flimsy at best.

  • Ozbargained. Just got a message:

"They haven't been shipped due to a lack of stock and overwhelming sales.

We will however be able to replace your order with a set of Philips CitiScape Shibuya Headphones SHL5205."

    Are these worth the swap?

    • +6

Lol. Protip, read unread posts before posting :)

In short, the general consensus seems the swap is a good deal if u can get past the hideous colour

  • I pass on the white replacement, reviews say they dont last.

  • So you guys who received your Pioneers, do you all agree that they suck? As in not worth their normal $40 price?

    • hell no.

can't believe a lot of u guys that ordered from the website got shafted though.. cos i ordered from ebay late saturday night.. and i received it quickly

but anyways, i would've preferred to get the philips!

      • Well if you haven't used them and still in original packaging then there might be a few people willing to do a straight swap.

        • well i have opened them and tested them.. but yeah if anyone wants a straight swap.. just PM me

      • I ordered from ebay Saturday around noon. There's no good explanation why you got it and I didn't.

        • Different warehouses maybe? I know when I made the iPad air purchase when I called for a follow up he said the warehouse I was allocated to had quite few on backorder and wouldn't get it for a while but was able to source one from another warehouse (and onboard with driver right now :) )

        • yeah i hear ya.. i guess they don't have the resources to allocate it on a first come first serve basis.. which is pretty ridiculous imo

  • Just got the email about them replacing with the Philips ones. Thing is, I originally bought 2 pairs of the Pioneers. So I wonder if I'll be getting 2 pairs of the new ones or just 1…

    Guess I'll find out

    • Same. They better give 2, or they'll be in trouble. I can't imagine they'd give 1, regardless of how many people order.

  • Well this'll be interesting
As they couldn't fulfill the order yet again and I didnt want the Phillips headphones, Via ebay I told them to refund
They responded via ebay and said they have forwarded the details on for the refund as requested.
Several days later I get the email with an invoice saying the Phillips merch. is on its way.

I guess that means a refund AND free headphones.

    • wouldn't bet on it. The first email I got said they ran out of stock and were going to issue a refund. I then got an email a week later saying they are providing Philips headphones. I do not believe I am getting a refund.

      • Nope, just got notification
I have the $10 AND I have the headphones
Seems they didn't want to send anyone around to collect them.

  • i got the pioneer but wish i got offered the phillips instead!!!

    • If you're in the SE melb area, I'm willing to swap with you. I expect to receive a Philips but would rather have a Pio.

Did you test it out and the audio quality sucked?

  • I was pretty excited to get the swap, but then they emailed me with the refund :( But whatever, they gave me 20$ back when I payed 16, so all good.

  • Anyone got their dispatch confirmation for Philips ones yet? When I enquired about the substitute they said they will be dispatched on Friday and should expect them by Tuesday.

    • I got the confirmation this morning. Received it at noon.

      • Card was in letter box when got home tonight. Picked up from PO before they closed. Good headphones for the price, glad I didn't opt for refund now!

  • Sigh, I requested for refund on both eBay and by replying their e-mail, and I have been told they will precess the refund… then guess what?

Found a Phillips headphone with my new Chromecast on my desk today… Should I still chasing for the refund then? :|

    • -4

Yes. They'll probably let you return it to a store for a refund.

I would wait a few days first though. There could be a miscommunication and they process the paypal refund anyway, netting you some free headphones.

      • +2

You don't deliberately take advantage of PayPal dispute or whatever to get a refund and free headphones. It doesn't make you anything better than DSE stuffed up your order.

        • No, I don't mean to take advantage on that, I just don't like the replacement headphone, and I prefer to get my money back… that's all…

Maybe I should e-mail them again to find a way I can return that…

        • You don't deliberately take advantage of PayPal dispute or whatever to get a refund and free headphones. It doesn't make you anything better than DSE stuffed up your order.

Who said anything about a dispute? He initially requested a refund and they agreed to it, keyed it in, but for all we know may have mistakenly sent sent them anyway. Paypal refunds take time to process. In a few days the refund might have come through without following it up.

In which case DSE would have stuffed up through no encouragement of his own. I was in no way suggesting he go and ask for a dispute for non-receipt. That would not work because he's signed the delivery already.

All I suggested is wait a few days to see if the refund still comes through. If the refund comes through, he can do what he wants with the headphones, return them or keep them. If there's no refund then he can ask if he can return it to a store.

        • +2

Why should the OP take them back?
I am in the same boat, I bought product A) with delivery
I requested a refund and had it granted when they wanted to supply product B) instead
They then still delivered product B)

I still expect a refund and am entitled to one and have their confirmation email to prove it
They are welcome to pick up their junk themselves but I have no vehicle to play courier for them.

  • Just got the Philips Shibuya delivered. Not bad.

  • Just got my white Philips , very happy

  • Dick Smith cancel and then replace the order - fine by me.

Star track - the courier company sent me a text that they will be delivering it today so cancelled an appointment and stayed home.

10 minutes ago I get another text saying no one was home so they left a card with instructions! I am sitting 2 feet from the main door! and no card anywhere in sight!!

Called them and now waiting in queue- what are the options with this mob- redelivery or pickup from somewhere?

    • What was your appointment? Hope it wasn't important.

If no one's home, they normally leave it at the nearest post office. Look for the card in your door, or mail box. If you don't have the card give the post office your ID, and they should still be able to get the item for you.

    • Wrong address perhaps? I have had a problem with Dick Smith losing the first line of the two-line address field. Ended up having to get them to redeliver it.

    • The same thing happened to me too, eventually it was resolved by calling DS/StarTrack and asking which PO the package was left at and then driving there to get it. And I'm glad I did spend the time on the phone to call & check because true to StarTrack style it was left in a completely different PO, not my usual.

  • Them Philips Shibuyas are badly designed. The flat earmuffs conduct body heat from your ear and get warm very quickly. It's like sitting on a leather sofa. Cold at first, but then gets warmed by your body heat quickly, and gets too hot, and you want to move to another spot.

I would rather have pitted cans. I should have requested a refund.

  • Got mine yesterday… the neice shall be please with the funky colour and all. Great for keyboard practice lesson in the classroom.

  • Got mine yesterday as well. Quite happy with the sound quality. come on its $10. what do u expect

  • Finally got my pair yesterday and they are faulty straight out of the box, one of the speakers doesn't work. Quite a strange design anyway, I don't think I will be missing out on too much.

  • I got my Philips replacements today…they're bright blue instead of white. So ugly. Now I don't know what to do :'(

    • -1

      Return it in the store.

        1. Drive to store - waste fuel, wear out car
        2. Waste mass amounts of time explaining what happened, waiting for staff to work it out, make phone calls, then process refund(assuming they don't tell you to ring EBay).
        3. Get money back
        4. Drive home, waste fuel, wear out car.

Net financial situation = in the negative (expenditure + no asset)

        • -1

          Too much assumptions?
What if the store is near his work or home.
Like its few metres away from my office. If it is far, just live with the headphones or return when you go for regular or routine shopping.

        • heh well their store is just up the road from me :p i've just been asking friends/family if they'd like them. so far no one due to ugly colour :|

but can you actually just take it to a physical store for a refund, even though it's been purchased online?

        • @Gaggy: It's a fair assumption for the most of the population of Australia that they won't live within a short walking distance of a Dick Smith store.

We don't really care if it's close to you, it doesn't benefit us.

  • +1

Finally received my pair of white Philips Shibuya today. Awkward design & cheaply made. However for $10 it's still a bargain.

    • Sound is ok, but I did not like the design that much. It puts a lot of pressure on ears.

      • They are an odd design but I actually don't mind the thick padding instead of the normal cup design. Used mine for about 45 mins tonight and didn't feel like they were putting a huge amount of pressure on my ears.

    • -1

It's only a bargain if they're useable. Try putting them on for more than 10 minutes. I couldn't bear the heat and had to take them off. If they're useless it's not a bargain but a waste of $10.

      • +2

What are you talking about?! On OzBargain many people categorise things as "bargains" even when they don't intend to use it and sometimes have no idea what it is :) Besides the Philips is perfectly usable to me.

      • +1

I don't think it is a waste. I wont use them too often. But hey, its only $10 !!

  • A lot of the above posters sound like they have incredible fat heads and are soft. (they squash my head, they are too hot)

    • Them being hot has nothing to do with how fat your head is.

I found them comfortable to put on, but the heat was unbearable. I've never felt in ear headphones get hot. I own more than 20 different ones, none of them have ever felt hot.

The heat on these Shibuya's is not from the unit itself but from the body heat of your ears warming the cups. They feel like a leather sofa. Cold at first, but then it conducts your body heat and gets warm. Due to the flatness of the ear pieces, the whole thing gets hot. If it had a design like normal on-ear or over-ear headphones with a ring, the problem wouldn't be as bad.

  • +3

Ordered one, received two of the Phillips. Not bad for $10 delivered :-)
