  • wonder if its for new customers or can existing customer apply and get $100 wish card

  • Well, I am existing customer. I was wondering if I should cancel the policy to get it or I am eligible for this now as well?

    • Try it and let me know. Gotta renew next month myself.

Not really worth it if the policy costs $100+ more than others…

    • Not really worth it if the policy costs $100+ more than others…

      This.

I recently did the whole insurance thingy for two cars plus home and contents, and there were better deals to be had even when considering the extra $100 gift card.

For the record, we went with AAMI.

      • we went with AAMI.

I saved around $400 by moving from AAMI to Coles Insurance.

It really depends on a number of factors… Our other car is with Budget Direct.

If we switch insurance companies between cars (with all other info being the same), we would be around $200 worse off… Go figure ???

Beware AAMI and all SunCorp car insurers, they will try and force you to use their dodgy repairers. Not a nice situation to find yourself in if you ever do have to make a claim.

        • Actually my folks had to claim a car smash through AAMI a few months back…they were blown away with their service and the repair job, so I was happy to give them a go based on their experience.

        • they were blown away with their service and the repair job

What qualifications do they have to assess repair quality?

        • They own the car involved?! If they were happy with the repair, they were happy with the repair.

        • They own the car involved?!

Owning a car means you're qualified in vehicle repair? What kind of logic is this?

If they were happy with the repair, they were happy with the repair.

Happiness is completely irrelevant to the quality of the repair.

        • Sure beats being unhappy with a poor quality job.

The amount of "expertise" required to assess a repair depends on the damage incurred. Structural damage might require an expert's oversight, cosmetic obviously doesn't. In many if not most cases these days panels are replaced so it's only a matter of fit and colour.

I found progressive by far the cheapest for multiple cars (without the hassle of having to phone other insurance companies and attempt multi-car discounts)…
Progressives website just does it automatically

        • I found Coles cheapest.. Funny thing is my wife cant drive very well.. Had 2 smashes in 2012. I bought her a brand new car in 2013 (yer I am crazy) but cause the old car was insured in my name it was a lot cheaper just to insure it in her name.

Woolworths quote was literally double my Coles quote

    • I just saw your comment and got a qoute, the quick qoute gave me $430, cheaper than my woolies insurance by $60.

I went thriough the exact qoute questions, came to $730.
Now it is $240 more expensive than Woolies.

      • Quick quotes are a joke in many cases, just a hook to get you interested. I've had similar expereinces as you with quotes for both house and car. Ww was cheap for my older 4WD, no longer worth comprehensive but Ww offered good 3PP plus fire and theft. Anyone with AAMI should shop around - they have recently changed hands and premiums have risen.

    • $100 more for me

  • As much as this is a good deal, I would be weary.

Just remember that whatever you do with Woolworths now that data will belong to the NSA and Google.
Woolworths announced recently that it was going Google for everything, therefore your data is no longer secure with Woolworths.

As much as this is a good deal, I would be weary.

but what if I buy tin foil from Woolworths, doesnt that automatically defeat any NSA spying on me?

      • I'm covering my truck with alfoil when it comes on special next just in case.

    • Chronic fatigue?

  • Woolworths quote was about the same as Coles, or RAC for me.
UNTIL I tried their limited-km option. With a 12,000 km limit, I saved $100, plus the $100 WISH card.
(thats not much less than the average distance driven per year, BTW)

Now I just WISH the card would show up. They have not said anything about it. Will I need to remember to complain to get it?

    • nope, it will come in the mail, thats been my experience.

For anyone interested, WW is just a branded insurance of a big re-insurer.
If you don't want to deal with WW, you can go to www.realinsurance.com.au.

As you will notice, it is, exactly the same website with different branding.

But WW does give $100, and Real doesn't.

    • Got my $50 petrol gift card in the mail within a couple of weeks last year.

My renewal cost is $27 more than a new policy without the $100 gift card so I'll be cancelling the renewal (which is automatic - naughty) and starting again with or without the card - after getting other quotes of course.

      • auto renewal is not naughty, its normal and reasonable.

Imagine people who forget to renew their policies coz they are lazy and cbb. They continue to drive to work everyday and craash it, they think they are covered and they are due to auto renewal.

If not, they are out in the cold.

      • Every insurance company I have been with has auto renew if they have your chargeable details. This is always preceded by a letter of contact showing the following years details with a note saying that it will be charged automatically unless you say there is an issue. Makes perfect sense to me.

  • They know where your car is when you don't… very handy…??
    from site…
"If you are unable to locate your vehicle please call us on 1300 482 451"

  • Woolies will vary greatly based on the Drive Less Pay Less option. It made a huge difference for me.
A big point for all, is make sure you do your quotes on line, not over the phone, it is always far cheaper.
    Here are my results:

Woolworths (replace car for 12 months) $791.40, excess $600 inc 20 days of hire car replacement
GIO Platinum (replace car for lifetime) $967, excess $650
AAMI (replace car for 24 months) $1,119, excess $625
Allianz (replace car for 24 months) $1,151, excess $850
Coles, don't know about car replacement $1287, excess $850
Bingle, can't remember exact details $1,200+
Youi (AKA- you have got to be fkn kidding me) $2500, excess – who cares, I'm not 23 years old in a VL Turbo Maaaaaate.

Woolworths gives an extra 4c per litre off at Woolys fuel. Based on loose numbers, 18,000km per year, 10Lt per 100km = 1,800lt of fuel. So that equals $82 saved in fuel, so basically makes the insurance $659.40 per year.
They also have no penalty for monthly payment."

I am with Woolworths, pay $65.95 per month, 20 days of car hire replacement.
After 12 months I will probably switch to GIO Platinum to get Lifetime car replacement

    • Woolworths gives an extra 4c per litre off at Woolys fuel.

They do? How? I don't see it.

      • I think they dropped that and increased the initial sign up bonus because (as I pointed out to them) the fuel offer didn't apply to Tasmania.

One thing I like is you can get third party and add windscreen cover to it - you don't need to get comprehensive to get windscreen cover (this was 6 months ago anyway).

  • Woolies $600 vs Progressive Direct $350 for me :-(
That difference there is not just a few cents!!
So much for $100 gift card LOL.
Higher excess and lower agreed value with woollies also… :-(

  • not cheap currently with national/allianz $31 a month full comp woolies quote $38 a month.

The ONLY this that counts with insurance is the after-smash experience. That is what you are paying for. Everything else such as gifts cards are just tinsel and can distract you.
You should research how you want that to be, then find the best deal.
There are certain insurers that I wouldn't touch with a ten foot Wilson.
For example, a huge amount of crash repairers in the 80's and 90s had signs up saying "no AAMI quotes" due to their dodgy practices such as forcing repairers to use second hand and non-original parts.
The song may say "lucky you're with AAMI" but you wouldn't be after you stacked/
FWIW I went comprehensive with Progressive. For me it was the right mixture of value and reputation.
FWIW2 You would be mental to even consider Youi.

  • Just so you know, WW Insurance is underwritten by Hollard Insurance (Real Insurance)
Google them before buying any policy (their reputation isn't the greatest)

    • Hmmm. We know that unhappy customers usually write reviews but some of the complaints about delays are worth knowing about.

Friend had his car stolen 3 months ago and its insured with WW. He is still waiting for payment.

    • Girlfriend had a car hit by someone who addmitted fault. Bingle took 4 months to refund the excess even though it was the most simple of claims since the other party admitted guilt and paid their insurance excess.

I'd imagine a stolen car would take even more investigation given its a bigger claim value.

  • $100 higher than coles renewal ..funny that

  • +1

I renewed a few weeks ago and coles was cheaper by far (even chossing woolworths limited 10k per year). funny, Youi ask more question than any and it is the more expensive.

PS: I don't get how every add says that they save $$$, how can they all save money? what they are comparing to? imaginary quotes?

    • PS: I don't get how every add says that they save $$$, how can they all save money? what they are comparing to? imaginary quotes?

its no different to any of the 'cheapest price guarantees' at officeworks/bunnings/good guys blah blah blah..

its nothing a little asterix and some size 1pt font fine print cant explain ;)

    • You dodged a bullet their. Youi is perhaps the worst of the lot if you smash. Terrible, dishonest, make you use used parts etc.
