Step Down converter US to AU 230V to 120V

My idiot brother in law got my father in law this: http://www.amazon.com/MaxiMatic-EBK-200-Cuisine-Breakfast-St…

Despite me saying it will be difficult to get working in Aus.

Now my father in law has a gadget he can't use. He has borrowed a step down converter from a friend but would like to buy one for cheap. Anyone know if it is at all possible to get a cheap one or other options?

Any information would be great.

Thanks.

Plenty of step-down transformers on eBay. Ones with rated wattage to suit a coffee maker - at very considerable cost.

Depending on the nature of the coffee maker's design (maybe there are 240 volt models - otherwise identical - available for other markets), spares - element, electronic modules, may be available to allow a re-jigging.

    Either way, an expensive exercise.

Your brother-in-law is indeed an idiot.

    • So they are fairly pricey are they? Damn that sucks!

A 500W converter on eBay will set you back around $90, and around 5kg.

Probably not worth pursing for a $40 coffee machine…

    • Thought so but you can only try.

    • Nope - the amazon page says it draws 500 watts.
